  1. Always an interesting question which has raised it's head before. 25 years is a long time - what will your car, 32" Sony TV, Fridge Freezer etc be worth in 25 years? Absolutely nothing because they are consumable items, purchased for their use and enjoyment over a limited lifespan and not as investments for the future. That is the way I have always regarded my records....having said that I don't own any of the 'big ticket' sounds - if I did I may be more concerned for future values
  2. Very genteel on here at the moment....cucumber sandwich anyone?
  3. Perhaps you're just not cut out for forums?
  4. Good post - IMO I think this pretty much sums up the reason(s) for much of the animosity.
  5. There's a lot of truth to that Ted - Problem is some of the DJs are still playing the same sets
  6. Just had a look in Autumn 1996 "Manifesto" magazine. Sat 14th Sept Winter Gardens Ballroom Cleethorpes S/N Catholic Club Harrogate S/N Keele A/N Ellingtons Altringham S/N and thats the busiest Saturday of the month. EVERYBODY would have been at Keele though
  7. Forget Psychadelic Soul - How about 'Physio-Soul' - with chiropractors and physios on hand to offer relief for those stiff hips and joints
  8. Always been curious about this -did anybody actually see it happen?
  9. I agree - still sounds great today.
  10. Feels a bit like 5am at the moment. Just been out for a breath of air, come back in and the dance floors quietening down. Needs someone to play a few stompers and get things going again
  11. This forum provides us with the means to express an opinion and like the rest of us you are perfectly entitled to yours, in fact I agree with some of what you say. Welcome back to soul-source. Better to be on the inside pi**ing out eh
  12. Helloooo My friend Dan Devine (who also isn't a member on this forum) has asked me express how angry he feels about some of the narrow-minded postings in this thread. Some of the attitudes displayed here are damaging to making a fast buck out of the northern soul scene. There has been a long tradition in exploiting the scene in order to profit financially. The music itself does not belong to Northern Soul fans, indeed over the weekend Dan Devine had written a number of tunes which he felt were tailor made for this production. Surely they deserve a chance of greater exposure. Nobody has the right to deny Dan Devine his moment of glory........... Yours etc
  13. Henry Shed used to make me laugh - made me think of the Monty Python sketch.
  14. I took the Raines version with me to the Saturday afternoon at the Hideaway weekender 2007. Had mentioned it to Bob Morris and Co previously and nobody was aware of its existence at the time. John Kelly and Hoss both had a listen and I guess that its as a result of this that word has got about, though I doubt that many people have actually heard it. I wouldn't go as far as to say its dire but I agree it is not as good as the Herald version. Definitely think its the rarer of the two.
  15. Leon Haywood - Baby reconsider Williams & Watson - It's too late !
  16. That was Robyn. Got a mention on the liner notes for the Kent CD "Big in Wigan" when Ady decided to dedicate each of the tracks to a particular DJ. Robyn got The Gypsies - 'It's a womans world'.
  17. Two records with the same lyrics by Sugar Boy Williams : Little girl take your time - RAINES Little girl - HERALD Is it the RAINES one that you're looking for ?
  18. "Finders Keepers" always been a favorite of mine.
  19. Ok so what you're saying is........the people who can dance are too old to appear in the film, and the people who are young enough to appear can't dance. Sounds like a bit of a stalemate to me. If the dance scenes are authentic they will be shot in semi darkness which will allow some licence as regards age.......keep them in the background and thirty to forty younger dancers in the forefront - sorted. This film could be a wigmakers dream
  20. Was there too Ken - Keith Minshull announced it - due to slight chemical imbalance couldn't decide whether it was true or some sort of hoax.
