  1. Tea and biscuits - now your talking I know too much caffeine isn't good, but what the heck...
  2. Yours'd be a short spot Hope your keeping ok mate.
  3. To create a good night everyone has to share the responsibility to some degree : The promoter should book the dj whose style is compatible with the venue... The dj should attend the venue before accepting/asking for a booking... The punter should check the dj lineup before attending... And everyone should be happy... And requests easier to play.
  4. Yes, seriously.....it's a term he uses a lot in the book. Reg hails from Hemel Hempstead and went to the Casino, Mecca etc in the early days. It's a term I'd never heard before which made me wonder whether it's a regional thing.
  5. Would agree with you on that one - maybe it depends on what part of the country you're from? I had never heard the term 'souling' (as in going for a night out) prior to reading Reg Stickings book.
  6. Remember about 10 years ago asking Bob Hinsley - who was guesting at a local soul night - to play the Trends, which was massive for him at the time. He thought about it, then said OK but you'd better dance to it... He was right, guess who was the only one dancing
  7. Sums it up perfectly for me. Good post.
  8. Why would anybody want a free for all? I've no time for what IL has done on here, but people whom I have no time for I just ignore...so why keep raking it up? Mike has done the right thing in closing his account - surely that's an end of it...
  9. So what? The guy specifically asked for a well packed US style mailer, and signed for delivery. Not a big deal to provide but he didn't get either. It's difficult to know who's right and wrong in a lot of what's been said on this and the previous thread, but trust is based on people doing what they say.
  10. Hooray - 187 users in last 15 mins. Has everyone been checking on the hour like me
  11. Have just read this - don't tend to keep books, other than non fiction, once I've read them. If anyone would like it I'm happy to pass it on for the cost of P&P UPDATE 15 July - BOOK HAS NOW FOUND A NEW HOME
  12. Interesting insight - thanks Keith.
  13. Well done Mike
  14. Gonna be me - I've just sniped it
  15. Not sure - think he's got a new book out though?
  16. Well I guess if that was his opinion then you can't argue with that....modern day analogy would be pissed up punters in fancy dress demanding oldies all night I met Roger about 10 years ago in a record shop in Bangor, shortly before he died. He was still really enthusiastic about the music and we had a lengthy conversation about some of his favorite artists. Having seen some of his playlists from the Wheel he played quite a wide cross section of music, some of which would have no bearing on the scene as we know it, and which was then still in its infancy. Much of the RnB though, remains relevant today.
  17. Millionaires - Never for me Test of a good record is how fast it goes by - this one flies
  18. That's why I no longer have his lists - my post doesn't arrive until midday and by that time anything worth having has already been sold Some cracking stuff if you get your post early though
  19. Used to swap tapes with Joe Corrance - always had some nice early/R&B from him.
  20. Best one for me, on sheer quality, was Derek Pearsons 'Shades of Soul' tape Oct 1996. Track Listing included: Black & Blue - What I got George Hughley - Thats why I cry Aretha Franklin - Don't let me lose this dream Tears - Good luck my love Cam Cameron - They say Betty O'Brien - She'll be gone Dee Dee Warwick - Worth every tear I cry Rose Brooks - I'm moaning Syl Johnson - We did it Ruby Carter - Unlucky girl Terry Callier - Ordinary Joe It was the first time I'd heard the first 5 tracks and just blew me away. Still enjoy listening to it today.
  21. Two original anniversary patches to be sold as a pair. Detailed photographs showing condition can be sent via email Open to offers over £125. Payment via paypal please.
  22. If you are looking for a specific record then its pretty much business as usual - run search on artist/title ( not sure about new system 'a side', 'b side' though... seems an added complication ) and up pops the record if its in stock. If you are not looking for anything specific, then what I would descibe as the 'browse' facility seems to have been lost. My preferred method was to open a page eg 'Northern Soul 45s' and scan through the list of random titles. When I reached the bottom I would click 'refresh' and a whole new page of titles would appear. Using this method I found and bought a number of records which were previously unknown to me, so maybe a 'random search' could be a useful addition.
