  1. My sentiments exactly. I do find it difficult to understand how people end up having crap nights (musically) though. A quick look at the lineup is all it takes...
  2. Got an E+ copy on Cinema - last copy I saw on here sold for £100. What are you looking to pay?
  3. I understand the frustration. My preference is for music that was released between February and October 1965, on labels that contain two vowels or less, eg Sugar Pie Desanto - 'Here you come running' on Checker, whereas Dontells - 'In your Heart' would have to be excluded because even though the date is correct, there are three vowels in Vee Jay. On the plus side Motown has two vowels with plenty of releases in the time period, but I'm not a great fan of Motown and couldn't listen to a whole night of it. Sometimes I'm lucky and as many as six records that suit my criteria have been played in a single night. Across the board venues usually do the business more than others.
  4. Why do you feel that you have to 'fight your corner'? Just enjoy the music you like and attend the venues that play it. I love R&B and do just that. In answer to your first question, Ian Levine will provide a list..
  5. Think you should stick to your "what's your favorite colour?" posts mate
  6. Little Joe Cook - I'll never go to a party again - (E+) 20th Century Fox (DJ) £45 Herman Griffin - Sleep Little One - (M-) Motown £25 Sugar Pie Desanto - Crazy Lovin' (M-) Checker (DJ) £15 Payment by paypal please UK Recorded Delivery £2
  7. Have been using the 9L really useful 100 box for some time. If anyone thinking of buying its worth noting that the postage for 1 box is £3.60, 2 boxes £11.99 so if you are after a couple it pays to buy them individually. Strange but true.......
  8. Notice a lot of sellers currently requesting payment via 'paypal gift' If the seller is unknown to me I think I would politely offer to pay the fees... or am I just too cautious?
  9. Well, why don't the two of you get together and set up your own night? Seems to be what everybody else does ....
  10. Just gave it a listen... Made me smile and brought back nothing but good memories
  11. That was Pete McKenna's 'Nightshift'.... and the pies were Burtons if I remember correctly.
  12. Yes - good reminder of a powerful main floor record that doesn't cost the earth and still has plenty of life in it..
  13. My own thoughts exactly on both counts. Interesting views on mass production and consumerism and the idea that this was maybe a glimpse into the future for other large industrial cities. On a brighter note it was uplifting to see that there were those who felt that a new future born of community self sufficiency may rise from the rubble..
  14. ..or travelling stranger perhaps?
  15. Bought a few 45s based on soundfiles or hearing out - couldn't believe how fast some of them were when I put them on the deck. One plays best at 33rpm pitched up, another at -8. Talking R&B by the way...
  16. 1 Pass for sale, no accommodation, available Thursday night. PM please if interested.. SOLD
  17. That's it in a nutshell... it's a bit like having a favorite film and watching it every Saturday for 30 years - how can you not get fed up of it? Not having a go because we're all different and entitled to do as we please, I just have difficulty understanding it..
  18. Give it a go....if it's oldies based I suspect that even if it's advertised as CD only, people will still turn out and enjoy themselves if the music is right. It's not something I would attend myself, but then I wouldn't attend an OVO oldies night either...
  19. Little Joe Cook - I'll never go to a party again - 20th Century DJ (EX+) Would be interested to know current price for this please..
  20. Original (M-) on Pat Brady - £510 with 3 days to go.
  21. Think we all know the real top 10 faq's: What's this? Who's it by? What label's it on? How much? Bought any records recently? You going to *? ...... *Insert venue of choice Did you go to*? ...... *Insert venue of choice You done anything tonight? How you getting home? Any chance of a lift?
  22. People with hats, makes me think of Ted Couldstone, but having difficulty picturing him doing a slinky cat dance.... As for the rest of it, I would say it comes with experience. My personal view is that EW is a rare record that has been played by RB for sixteen years or more, which would probably preclude it from the rare rooms apart from maybe the occasional spin.
  23. Nice record.. if you can afford it, buy it!
  24. Betty Lavette did a 'harder' version on Atlantic which I like. Can't do sound files though sorry.
  25. I first attended Wigan Casino in 1973 and have enjoyed the music ever since. I now prefer R&B and attend very few Northern nights, so in your view that makes me a mod?? As for R&B always being part of NS, I remember people like Roger Banks emptying dance floors thirteen years or so ago because the vast majority felt R&B shouldn't be played. I prefer seperate rooms to hear real R&B as opposed to the watered down, played out variety that you hear on the main floor. If I wasn't so polite, I would say you don't have a clue what you are talking about
