  1. It was all going so well until the last paragraph or so.It seems nowhere is doing it for you,no music is either. Not enough young dj's,too many old ones. You've started a thread, folks have replied to it.To finish you wish us all Happy souling.?
  2. That's another thing. As we all get older, less people may be going out.Technology will become more prevalent and Mixcloud etc will be used more and more to showcase sets. Probably replacing the need to go out. Young dj's putting sets out on Mixcloud to a capitive bunch of miserable gits.
  3. On a serious note for once,i think we have a society problem. One that gives the younger generation the feeling that everything is instantly available. From Big brother to Pop Idol,to 5 minute "celebrity" status.Everything at the touch of a button.Us older types growing up, were used to "apprenticeships",biding your time, although we didn't like it. Not saying this totally applies to the young guys who aspire to dj - or does it, subliminally.? A question for the younger dj's on here. Are you influenced by older dj's.? Is your record collection influenced by the older dj's..If so who.? The top dj's are there for a reason. They have the records and knowledge. Lastly,if you are a young dj just starting out,buy originals, put a set together that's different, buy only stuff you like whether that's NS,xover or rnb. By buying originals.you'll look back on your collection with more pride, the older you get.
  4. Seems to be younger ones coming through to me.I keep seeing them on dj rotas.
  5. Think Phil was asking if the Age ones were bootlegs. They are just an earlier rnb style release aren't they.? Tamboo ones, later updated version.
  6. No can do Phil - you're in the matrix now.!!!
  7. True ,not everything is on Shazam.Apparently.
  8. We're getting bogged down here.I'm agreeing with you re; Dig Deeper and putting artist on etc. There's also many promoters in the UK who work hard to get singers and groups over here.
  9. Roy Handy on Steohanye ?
  10. Yes heard of dig deeper. Nothing wrong with putting artists on stage.
  11. Do people do that.? One word that keeps cropping up is recognition. Giving recognition when quoting from books . How and when do you do this ? Would you do it for instance when talking wit friends or on the internet. Although a nice thing to do , there's no legal obligation to do so. Unless you are trying to pass off something as your creation, you may find yourself in trouble . Which Ns djs who play c/ u's are not trying to do.
  12. The point is that the author gets nothing. In your argument that's the same as the c/u artists from the 60's.The book is purchased from a 2nd hand shop, read at home then filed on a book shelf. Whereas a c/u will be played ,hopefully, to a few hundred people over its course, give pleasure as it was intended, before being uncovered.
  13. In my previous post,i also said that c/u's nowadays don't stay that way for long. So,recognition is given eventually. As with many authors the recording artists are no longer around. As for the personal angle, many relatives don't know of their loved ones recording career's.Its only through exposure via soul scene's here and abroad they are being re-united with the history of the artists. The work being attributed to someone else.? - cover up's aren't churned out on an industrial scale,in fact the opposite. The re-discovery of tracks, and resurrecting of career's,exposure to new ears and fans, far out weighs the harm done by cover up's.
  14. Does any of your payment for said books go into the hands of the author.? He can't pay his/her bills on thankyou's.
  15. One thing that's not been mentioned is,that at the time of some releases (destined to be c/u's),the artist in some cases was being ripped off by his producers/writers label owners - you name it,artists fell foul of them. Along comes NS,and these forgotten records finally get played, some 40 years later.Loved ,cherished by a soul scene, these records/cu's belonged to us - even for a brief moment.Played with reverence, coupled with an anti establisment* kick up the arse attitude, that cannot be copied by the general pop industry. * - one of the reason many got into the soul scene in the first place. Cover up's are on the wane, its mainly done now for "Fun"...folks in room testing out each others knowledge, whilst enjoying obscure tracks. Question. Do you buy 2nd hand furniture, antique furniture.Do you buy 2nd hand books.Do you buy used items from Ebay. How about 2nd hand retro clothes.? What about records from Ebay,or your friends.? If so how do you live with yourself.
  16. Never noticed mine's a small 45 as well. ZSP stamped in runout. "Dark and lonely" on the flip.!!!
  17. Staying on the Paul Anka record,if it had been played as Paul Anka, most of the 17/18 year olds in Wigan wouldn't have given it time.He was an artist our parents listened to.!! By covering it up,it probably had more effect because suddenly the realisation was that ANY artist could make that "sound"...and so increased the crate digging, trawling. No artist,b-side or genre was safe.!!
  18. Nice to see Herb Alpert getting played out.
  19. Hi Carl, now you are entering into the realms of "fake goods",clothes, films, even food and over the counter antibiotics.!! etc.Nothing's sacred. Most c/u's on the NS scene don't last for long. There's always someone who's in the know. Its done for exclusivity, and not forgetting - fun.! I wonder if Paul Anka went off on one when he found out that "Can't help loving you" was covered up.??? Maybe someone ought to ask him. These c/u's aren't fake. They are the real deal.
  20. A lot of the artists are no longer around though, more's the pity.In some cases royalty payments can't be made even if we wanted to.Covering up is about being exclusive for as long as you can.Nothing sinister.
  21. Long live the c/u.
