  1. ever noticed how the intro to "I surrender"- Eddie Holman, sounds like "You got to have money"-Exits,,,,speeded up?
  2. hi,just wondering the other day about record prices.Usually the debate is around 45's going up and being overpriced. But what about the sounds from way back, that were a small fortune back then, but are available now "cheaply"??. Sounds that were maybe limited to a few copies for a while ,then over the years are easier to obtain? I'll START IT OFF WITH DANNY MOORE "SOMEBODY NEW",championed by Rob Marriot among others. A 1000 (?) quid sound now around for 75 ish?. What's the biggest drop in price?
  3. ,say thanks to the girls for being patient with me John,,,,ends midnight Sunday?
  4. sorry Dave ,going thru my minimalist period atm. Now,what was the question? . Oh yes ,Mark's dress sense,,,,very brave. His sexuality,,,well that's another thread (only joking Mark). Playlists???...aaah maybe that's what i was waffling on about. Stick to painting by numbers Dave ...KEV.
  5. hi DAVE ,me again.MUST STOP MEETING LIKE THIS!!.True ,not all niters on the list, but at those venues maybe Mark means they may be a little braver than some others. One venue in particular has wannabee's with no reputation to lose!!! CAN YOU GUESS WHO IT IS YET? ,clogged up???.Don't think so!!. Till next time,,your friendly adversary,,KEV.
  6. i for one don't want uptempo all nite.Let's have some amount of the unpredictable in a set.Uptempo all nite?.Some of the top dj's don't do that. Hasn't the scene evolved from just "uptempo dance music"?? Midtempo for 8/9 records one after the other??.Surely it depends on where you are,and at what time of the nite?
  7. not in the same glass anyway......
  8. good point Andy, should make it clear though that we do pay dj's ,it's just not a lot,and if they want to do it for nowt we supply beer/petrol money anyway.
  9. i know one thing Dave that we'll agree on..that we disagree .you say tomatoe i say red herring.....i'd like to see your diagram now
  10. b/w crying clown....superb northern,probably the best.
  11. You just don't get it do you?.Minimum wage for dj's???Good rate of pay?Desperate to feed their ego's????, Some do it for nothing cos they love the music. Some venues don't generate enough on the door to pay big money out. No-one would put on an event without considering the dj's costs. Please give us the benefit of your wisdom with the rates structure for all the dj's on the scene. Dj's playing for nothing is one of the problems????.Scuse me while i hold my aching sides.
  12. cos in your original post, you said,,,,,"if you have such an high opinion of the Union" etc etc,,,,,,,giving the implication that we don't.End of subject for me.
  13. just read post again Dave.Mark mentions playing to the dancefloor to keep the punters happy, in you original post, you said "another red herring" to go along with the others aimed at us.Are you saying we play to the dancefloor to impress? have you been near our venue? Your'e condemning us from afar,,, one of the reasons the scene is shagged... iv'e kept this in good humour till now,
  14. don't worry Steve ..i am.....lets shut down
  15. SOME RED HERRINGS TO GO WITH MY HOVIS THEN.... OK...first point....The Brit was not run by MickH at the time we started and was not as progressive as with Mick at the helm.Union was bi-monthly. point2- we said we weren't going to clash with local nites ie : Bentinck,Annesley,Pilsley,Forest Town.We thought the Union/Brit was far enough away,we'd never attract the same crowd cos of rareity,AND WE'D STILL BE ABLE TO GO EVERY OTHER MONTH. Ask Mick why it changed to monthly. point 3- are you saying we don't have a high opinion of the Union and therefore Mick H?.YOU DON'T KNOW ME AT ALL.OURS WAS ON A DIFFERENT NITE.15 MILES AWAY. POINT 4- is there no difference then with our playlists and the Union?. Sub genre's,,,yeah wer'e doing exactly the same....white sliced bread all round i think......... btw..where were you in the 70's when the Brit was up and running. if you don't understand any of that,pm me.
  16. simon ,i know you mean well but, "new dj's"-do you mean new to the scene,or new behind the decks,or that you don't know them? Know stuff from before- knowing stuff from before, and being there when it happened are 2 different things.you wouldn't want someone banging on about The TORCH,WHEEL OR MECCA all the time, using that as credentials. Some never went.
  17. agree with the sentiments DD2,but can you imagine trying to nominate a panel??? ,who'd end up on it??,it'd be like the American elections all over again.
  18. i've got it!!!.So easy any one could sort this out!! Post code soulies.........stay in your post code, support that venue,,no problem. Applies to "dj's" as well though. ,No border crossing, going to police this correctly. Get what your given,RnB,crossover, northern, modern,it will depend on where you live. HOW'S THAT?. Next.....the invasion of Poland and who gets which weekend in any given month....watch this space.......
  19. you can have 2 venues in the same town,it depends on music played at each club. If one is out and out oldies and the other "modern", the crowd will sort itself!!!.Same if one venue is RNB, and the other is upfront, progressive rare sounds. So music policy matters imo.Why bother billing yourself as anything but NORTHERN then??.The people paying to come in need to know.Yes its all under the same umbrella, but with differences. As for overkill...... 1.not starting nites too near other venues.-are we proposing some kind of exclusion zone around venues?? Exclusive rights to some? And who are these people who are gonna get exclusive rights? Who and how we going to decide that?.Length of time on the scene, who you know, what records you got? Rant over.................on a lighter note its a customers market. Northern scene is like bread,At one time you got white sliced,no choice. Now you get 30 kinds in TESCO,,,,,,,,,,, ,but its still bread. If Nothern crowd had been running HOVIS,we'd still be buying brown unsliced Hovis, cycling our bollocks off up that hill.
  20. That was the by-law i was thinking about. At least i know he's not white now. Thanks Sean for that photo of CC. Is it ok to play it at home to the missus, until there's a knock at the door?? ,,KEV.(NONE- MEMBER OF THE SOUL PATROL )
