  1. if they fell out of the carajo, there would be seamen in the rigging, fnarr, fnarr . Sorry only slighty off topic.
  2. never mind the Soul Police, what about the Thought Police. Next time you're at home ,just about to play that pressing your mates know nothing about...............and there's a knock at the door...................
  3. there's always someone,un-named,and unknown in the Northern Soul Crow's Nest. "Cap'n,land ahoy!!",said the un-named,unknown chap in the Crow's Nest. "Thanks very much",said the Captain.
  4. haha,,, , well IAN D,what year.........not '73 was it?
  5. that's why i can't remember it. While i think about it ,just purchased, again, Party Music-Pat Lundy,,,,one of my faves from that era...........
  6. crikey forgot all about King Sporty.Does it still sound "Northern"?
  7. i really like it,pt2 sounds good,,whistles and stuff.......but W*gan?
  8. same look of shock when "Hip it" and "Summer in the parks" was played? . Earlier Ian,you said Patti Jo "MMBIY" was a big play in '74,now that was very different to what was being played .Pity i can''t remember it then .Apart from the LP release.
  9. whats the issue fetching nowadays?..KEV
  10. Ian,the PYE LP,in '76,lots of good tracks on it. PATTI JO - MAKE ME BELIEVE IN YOU,who's choice was that?.Definatley left field for then. Great b-side btw, version of Major Lance "Stay away from me",,as you probably know Or did Patti Jo do it first?
  11. Saw a nice issue at Burnley,Dave Rivers box(?).GREAT TUNE,Mecca at its best. Think i've still got a boot demo for sale if anyone's interested.
  12. Soul rev- 42,,,attic - 24,,,pimp that ride...............
  13. Not interested in your sexuality IAN,i'm sticking to ask about the music. Did The Inspirations on BREAKTHROUGH turn up in the big find? Which of the finds do you regard as the best? That's how you do it James....
  14. RACHEL,where's me post gone?.it was relevent to the thread ,not offensive, factual in fact . Could you post it back up and let IAN decide?.And SteveM had replied to it.
  15. spot on to my ears.A cabaret song.Never got the buzz on this one,but if it does it for you atm Beeks.............you'll learn .
  16. WOW,"I need you" -was like nothing played at the time, i always thought of it as funk at the time, but loved it just the same, vocal and instrumental. When you say made for Blackpoolites, how much input did you have? Were you there during recording, and how did the "spoken intro version" get on the label? btw..Towaway zone is still a wonderful record.
  17. the other side is very nice too,,midtempo,"Somewhere". Well you had trouble with yer Farmers, now yer feet, what's next?.Don't say Tennis elbow.KEV.
  18. What percentage were turkeys'?.Seen some lovely labels, with potentially good credits, but when the needle hits the record..... ......turns out to be country like Jim Reeves - "Roly Poly" or some dire rock n roll.
  19. Was Kris Petersen -JUST AS MUCH one of the records in the 4000 find?
  20. You wouldn't have said that back in the day when you had the big find. You're privelged to be able to recreate Northern,so now it just becomes a "musical form"?
  21. it depends what you mean,i've loved soul music, the guys you mentioned, since i was 12/13,long before it was called Northern. Im well aware that some made enough to keep the wolves from the door. I was making the point that i don't like to be told what to buy "cos its soul". As i said in my post the general ethos is one of the underdog, the romance of us owning ,discovering and loving records long forgotten, and not acknowledged by the masses. Your last statement,,,,,,where did you come to that conclusion?. Some of the best records are in the £40 bracket and a fairly easy to get hold of. A lot of collections consist of many of these including my little contribution. I like nothing better than to hear a set put together of cheapies and underplayed, along side the rarities. Think you've overeacted to my post, maybe you're trying to label me a dinosaur cos iv'e had a pop at Ian? Sorry to have gone off topic,,,,,take it to pm's Netspeaky if you want to continue, don't supose i'll be buying any bargains off you again .
  22. Ian,looking back now,how do you think records which were played late on at the Mecca, like "Nine times"- Moments, "Do what you feel" - Rimshots, and "Fifth of Beethoven" - Walter Murphy have stood up?
  23. whhoooah...........didn't suddenly dislike it or any other record that was out to make money. Some records can appear to be a bit too contrived/twee ie; manufactured for the scene. The general ethos of the scene is the Underdog syndrome, whether it be 60's or modern. We all like to think we're the first to acknowledge a record,to hear it for what it is,to lift it from obscurity,to make it our own. Is the scene not built on records that sold f -all.? Recorded by artists who generally made nothing out of their talent. I don't like being told ,"this is soul, buy it". ps- no need to vent you anger on me in your "bold" font.
  24. great stuff Mark,, . Lily Fields must have been a new release ?.
  25. WADR... Some loved them. But once you realised they were basically manufactured to make money, and all contained similar beats, some changed their minds. Some like authentic, fragile, not note perfect, sounds.
