  1. Has this ever been re-issued guys?
  2. Hi,anyone got the 2 Mpingo releases please? - "I'm in love" and "Lets pick up the pieces"? Cheap as you can,for a "friend" . Thanks,,Kev.
  3. Apologies if this has been done before but....what are the views on playing EMI discs?. Bearing in mind these were took off the original, and usually, rare records at the time.Given to the top dj's to play, sometimes to give the record a push before the boot came out. Is there any difference then, between EMI discs and carvers? Whats the pecking order? Original/EMI/Carver/Re-issue/boot??. C'mon, plenty of mileage left in this thread.
  4. When's the majority ever influenced anything? .
  5. Hands out your pockets young man!!. How very dare you?. .Any more talk like this and you will never pass the Soul Police final exam!!!
  6. You make a good point Adam.A big ticket rariety can be a bit of a weight around your neck (not for me i hasten to add ),i guess, for the top dj's.Folk know they've got it so ,they get asked to play it more and more.Add to the fact that the dj himself may be that chuffed at finally owning big ticket rariety,he's gonna play it come hell of high water.Outcome- overplayed rariety. Playing an hour of cheaper sounds/underplayed can be viewed 2 ways. 1/ boring sh*te no-one wants to hear. 2/ an inventive set ,daring to push the boundaries. Funnily enough that could apply to the very best of nights, judging by some feedback on here. No-one will ever agree on OV or not.But OV doesn't mean high prices.Or elitism.Or having to spend 200k. Does no-one enjoy the buzz of travelling to hear a rare sound, knowing there's only 3/4 copies? Or would you rather have it on a boot,to play wherever, whenever?.
  7. Yes,but its real hair.
  8. Hi Byrney.Just a couple of points. From the Attic (and possibly other soul nights point about pitching the nite),its difficult to pigeon hole what you're about nowadays. Is it Rare or is it Northern?.If you pitch as Rare, its not Rare enough for some.If you pitch as Northern, its not the Top 500,so you fall thru the net so to speak. Other thing at the Attic..for those who know,, the decks are at floor level.Punters can come over anytime to chinstroke, debate, argue about labels, issues over demos, carvers even. What they won't see now is boots /pressings. We never interfere with a guests spot.We only book dj's with the integrity NOT to play boots etc.OV only. That's us....like it or not. Sorry to make this "personal" and off topic, but felt i needed to have my say.
  9. I can play a bit of football as well,,,,funny......... Fergie's never come a knocking. Maybe there's a difference between Sunday League and Premiership?
  10. No, but we can get a print from Partners .
  11. Hi John, just to clear up -the post was totally tongue in cheek
  12. I've just had a Sir Henry Newton, cherry tree falling on my head moment. The people who are the Dinosaurs are the ones who want OV. They are the ones holding back the scene. . Why can't they shut up and make do with any old sh*te in any format? Kev the Stegasaurus.
  13. Its a wonder no-one saw them. Its more than a handful,11 records. Was it a random lift,or were they cherry picked? Shame on them!!! .

    you have mail.
  15. There's still a "league apart" Pete. The top dj's still exist.Dj's who folk will travel for. There's also "record spinners" with a lot of knowledge to share, whats wrong with that.?.How are others going to carry on the tradition without being given a chance? As for being a dj...thats a different subject. .
  16. .........and cast into the fiery depths, to the very bowels of the earth, and be condemned forever to listen to "Nine times out of ten", on repeat.

  18. ,some records should be played in the privacy of you own home.ie - boots.
  19. c'mon Pete.Say you go to a venue and someone plays Inticers on Soul Galore. Surely someone is bound to say " Thats not an original".The question is why play it when you can play other very worthy originals.?
  20. Not missing the point at all. True, it's about the music. One problem tho',,,this scene can never seperate the "just a paper label" argument. Its built on the very opposite. Me, i love dancing and talking about record labels like a nerd.If it wasn't for the stamp collectors of the scene, the real collector/dj's we'd all still be dancing to Tainted Love. btw,,,not all OV means rareity, and people with their trainspotting manuals out. One last thing....if dancing to a very rare record, that's unique to our scene, doesn't do it for you..............
  21. Hi Mark. Sugar Pie Desanto - "Be happy" isn't the same backing.Same label as Fuller Bros and Whispers
  22. I always associate boots etc., with a time when i didn't know any better,or had the money to seek out OV. Time marches on ( ),you live and learn. In the end the Rare/Northern scene is about the prize, the buzz, opening a record mailer to find an original 45 you've took time to find, negotiate, and pay for with your hard earned. Then if you're lucky enough ,to get to play them out with some pride. Not filling your box with two bit, badly recorded (in some cases),tunes that most people in the room would know you couldn't possibly own. Fool the fool?. Maybe. Don't care - more like. btw...just bought the Mona Lisa (see avatar).
  23. Haaaa...........happy days.
