  1. Hope its around 12/13 Oct.Trying to get away for 3/4 days.Love the Montmatre area.I always walk everywhere in Paris, helps to absorb the atmosphere....Anything on midweek?
  2. And thats why we are qualified to ask the question Byrney. We can easily move within the scenes and are comfortable to a certain extent in either camp.Pity the same can't be said coming the other way.
  3. Suppose if the record went for a lower offer and the buyer requests price removed - no problem.Maybe his wife is on the case.. On the same theme, what about the "pm'd ya" posts on Sales.?.A while later "Hold" or "Sold" is posted....now who bought that????

I've had a similar dilemma with my UK copy of Chuck Cockerham Mike.I usually play that at home with the curtains drawn. We can't afford real ones.

Amen to that my ginger friend.......
  6. And whilst we're here. How come the "other" nights don't put up any playlists??. Is it 1/..they are ashamed of playing and dancing to the same stuff week in week out? 2/ not worth doing because the actual record is secondary to dancing. 3/ playing boots, and as much as they don't like the "new" scene and that its built on ovo, don't like admitting they are selling themselves and the punters short? These are the folks who apparently went to Wigan,,,,to listen to new and rare stuff week in week out. What happened...??? Not putting up playlists only reinforces the myth that the tunes are top 500..!!!!!!!! Please someone,anyone...?
  7. Spot on Chalky. Most folks are now in their 50's and are set in their ways.Don't like being told or asked to "listen to this, its as good as anything back in the day". The rare scene embraces records far quicker, that are relatively underplayed or unknowns.Collector/dj driven. The people who hate the "rare" scene are the ones who need to have a look on the dancefloor first, before coming to a conclusion wether a record passes the test. That scene is dancefloor driven to the extent that a half empty floor represents a disaster.Hence top 500 becoming the norm.Back to promoters?
  8. Maybe north of Watford could learn something ,as it appears on here, that its Oop North that suffers with more clashes and arguments.
  9. Good post again Matt.Regarding numbers,i think, from being around and reading SS,that the rare scene is generally on its arse. The oldies/atb venues are buoyant. So i agree with you.The oldies scene will suffer a dip, just as the rare scene has.Human nature. Someone mentioned a collective of soul nights ,each offering support etc to promote interest in each venue.Showcasing each venue's different music policies.Maybe that avenue has not been explored. Then from the collectives, give extra added support for the All nighter scene - feeder clubs if you like.
  10. Maybe they think the cake is bigger than it really is.?
  11. Was Tom Cat a sort of answer record to Hound Dog.? Is Tom Cat a Lieber and Stoller tune?.I saw TC on ebay when it was at about £140,but didnt notice the writers credits.
  12. Hi.For sale, the Isley Brothers LP - "Lets go". 1986 Stateside re-issue featuring "Who's that lady" (60's version).Only other way to get this is on the UA single. Sleeve and vinyl both EX. £30 (includes P+P to UK buyers.) Overseas? PM first guys. Thanks..Kev.
  13. I'm confused guys.Is Big Mama Thornton,Willie Mae Thornton?.
  14. Tony, not just who you're thinking of.Happens near my area as well.
  15. Some more mainstream nights start up with no apparent consideration for the Rare'r struggling nights. But then again,if they are not part of that scene how are they to know.?.Two scene's on the go - one not even aware of the other.....maybe using the demise as an excuse to start up another night. Said this before, how's the cull going to start?.Who goes and who stays?.And on what dates?.Impossible task. Put your keys in the middle guys, see what you pull out.
  16. Ok.What about exclusion zones?.How far we talking.? Genres make a difference?
  17. I agree Russ. The question is..what counts as established?. If the split between rare and oldies is as we are led to beleive, could this be the reason so may venues clash. One not even being aware of the other.? Weekenders - a chance to take the missus/better half.Nothing wrong with that.Apart from some may have to decline a nighter the week after on the ground of being broke or knackered ,or getting a bad home. On a more personal note,,at The Attic we took a look, as rookie promoters, last year at the state of things.Numbers stabilising, venues that we as punters could not get to etc....took a chance and bit the bullet.Went bi-monthly.Numbers?? - same if not lower. Outcome? - maybe should have stayed monthly - or shut down!!!. Maybe trying to do something for us AND the good of the scene hasn't worked .How many others have tried this.? In the end it won't matter.Bit of honesty......Kev.
  18. Yet to hit its full potential imo.As they say "just right for now".
