    Few For Sale

Hodges ,James Smith & Crawford lovely bit of crossover.Jimmy Holiday - great price!!
  3. Always a good thing to have a sniff around at previous prices though.See which way the wind is blowing, when selling and buying. You are right though Dylan, one good sale brings out the rest,so you have to be quick. Imo i think listing a record for sale cheaper ,obviously on the back of another thats still "live",is a bit naughty. But its not an actual science we are dealing with,so mistakes happen.
  4. ,he's like that Smudge,whistle blower....

  10. Great news chaps.!! Nearly forgot the way to Burnley. .See you all January 22nd.
  11. Didn't a lot of the old boys,Wheel,Cats,Torch go to Wigan?.Mainly so they could say "this is an oldie":) . Seriously,Wigan was responsible for some non - soul records, but the soul didn't die when Wigan opened. These non-soul records served a purpose at the time, defining the way forward by excluding them.
  12. Decca 30185.Released 1957....like i say..than the lord he re-recorded it much later on Reforee.
  13. A great "two for one".Glad to see it getting the recognition it deserves.Always a bonus if one side is a dancer and the other is sweet soul ,or a heart wrenching ballad.
  14. Good points.Numbers thru the doors doesn't always bother the promoter of smaller venues.Sustaining a level does.Take into account overheads etc and see wether its worthwhile from there on.Quality of music does matter,as does the group you are aiming at. "Rare and underplayed" tag - was ok 4/5 years ago,now a bit overused imo.Funny how these "rare" records seem to infiltrate the top 500 venues though.Music for all. As for promoters "waking up to what we in the main want",there's plenty of these venues around. Why would you want to change other promoters to this way of thinking?. Would Stafford have been around if it wasn't for Wigan closing?.The record policy was quite different, but i suppose they could have played all the Wigan sets and packed the place without trying. And its the "without trying" part that puts some off the top 500 venues. I love my oldies, but not every week, and the same ones to boot. Viva la difference!!!!
  15. And there lies another problem Nev.Not too many nights, but clashing "cos they can do it better",or "there's some money to made out of this"........ Let's hear it for the venues that try and offer something different for a change. Venues come and go for different reasons. We shut down cos of falling numbers, lack of local support, and basically we were offering "a niter, underplayed music" venue that closed at 12.30.Marketed right, but in the wrong area (Alan Sugar would love us!!! ). Since its shut? - not changed me one bit.Still attend venues, still buy the odd tune....time marches on....some might say.... To all the promoters of small venues that shut...its not the end of the world.Fact.
