The Biggest Insult On Here
Haha!!.The old UK debate. Not getting drawn into it again....other than to say... would you be happy paying on the door to hear, for instance, all the Soul City releases that haven't seen a UK release before.IE:Micky Champion,Jades etc....and then Salt and Pepper ,Toni & Showmen,Rudy Love, etc..and the dj pass them off as originals?

The Biggest Insult On Here
To be honest, the very fact he owned DILY,put pressure on him to play it and cost him quite a bit as well. The same could apply to any dj with truly rare pieces. They buy em for big bucks, but run the risk of someone playing them on a pressing/second issue/boot in a spot before them.Shouldn't really happen. Wouldn't like to think someone would stick Salt and Pepper on the decks on Kent,as Butch is sorting his spot out.

The Biggest Insult On Here
Not sure if i've got the gist of your post Winnie. Are you saying if the local dj played W&Admerations on a boot before "Kenny",it improves his choice by the fact he won't now play it?

Can Anyone Tell Me Why?
In which area of the country does this happen?.Your partner "threatened at a soul night "- maybe he struck a sore point."Hard time for saying didn't enjoy a soul night" - bit of a theme here.

Cee Lo Green V Funky Newies
Mikey,i think Tavares - "Heaven must be missing an angel",was played at the Mecca before release,or at least very early on import. All went tits up after "Whodunit!" though....

Cee Lo Green V Funky Newies
Not sure. The Ones were about '67..JF earlier?.First latino group?
-
Cee Lo Green V Funky Newies
Well KGF for starters have a lead singer with pedigree - Danny Hernandez,of The Ones (You haven't seen my love/Happy day).First latino's on Motown i believe.

Cee Lo Green V Funky Newies
My summing up is...if something funky is going to be played,it has to have a beat that's familiar to the scene.(refering now to the 60's/70's NS)...The dancers and punters need that reference point to spring from.Too funky, and it doesn't belong. Its a fine line getting it right. CL Green, good singer for the time, nothing wrong with him.But he doesn't tick any other boxes than that.Too commercial, not rare or collectable, the sort of stuff my mum sings along to.Ok and inoffensive,no "grabs you by the balls" moments in his music.
