  1. I wonder if the problem lies with folks going to these new venues.? If they didn't....then what? Promoters ,sleep easy.
  2. "Do this for me".Brilliant Vietnam track and i think the fore runner of The Lovers version on Phillips, which was speeded up.Any thoughts?. "LOAG" i believe collected by the guys in the US.
  3. ,sounds like he's playing on a duck caller. Here's one that brings a smile to my face.Ok up till the piano break about 1.20 in.Bad pianist?,drunk pianist?,you decide.
  4. Great track.Sounds a much fuller production than "Betty Boo".
  5. I'd take away the break in Sebastian Williams - "Get your point over",and the flip as well, come to think about it.
  6. Barry Abbott?.No,doesn't have the impact.
  7. I'm sorry, but i seem to be missing the angle of this internal debate.Perfectly valid question you asked me Winnie.Which i answered.
  8. And that's exactly where the term came from.I used it for quick reference.Me lose a debate..? Guilty as charged i guess.....
  9. I'm guessing the term "chinstroker" came from a similar place as "Trainspotter" Chalky. The "deep in thought" ,"far away" look at some venues, given by collectors as they mentally scour their memory for matrix numbers, color variations,who/when /where a tune was first played, how much it went for on Popsike etc. Or it could be itchy stubble. Never seen it myself,or been to one of those crazy nights. How about rodo ? Records of Dubious Origin?
  10. Talking about going up to the decks out of interest.Suspicion? No,sometimes curiosity, sometimes because it may be the only time you get to see a big ticket number/holy grail close up.(Of course this means nothing unless you are interested in such things).
  11. Hi Russ.Used "chinstroker" as it seems to encompass,on SS, ovo collectors and punters who frequent ovo venues.
  12. That was my maths Winnie, based on estimated info given (Promoters thread).Meant to be tongue in cheek figures. How many would trek up to the decks? Chinstrokers night - 10%.?.The others would assume it was ovo? Oldies night - 1%.? The others probably dont care.?
  13. I'm well thanks... Didn't see Kev stood with you when i said that.. .
  14. Maybe playing boots is all about feeling cheated. From a punters point of view. You either feel cheated,or you don't.Or you don't care. Seems that most who dont care, are more interested in dancing, and nothing else. Take away the dancing, the clothing ranges, the market sales in the foyers...and what you left with??. You're left with people who have travelled to collect, met the actual people involved in the scene we love, chronicled and catalogued the music we love, crate dug, bought and sold at venues, stuck their necks out to spin the vinyl, opened and promoted venues.People who are proud to own an original copy of a record that's part of our "history in the making".Lots of folks own,or have owned boots.Nothing wrong with that. But if you're going to represent the Scene,by getting behind the decks,do it justice and play ovo.
  15. "Help wanted" / "A lady's man" looks the same as Chalky's scan of Storm Warning.(first issue). "Help Wanted" text, slightly less defined, and paler, than the text on "A Lady's Man". HW in run out... A - VOL - 4 ALM in run out...A - VOL - 7. Thoughts.....?
  16. Strangely, with some UK releases,it seems ok to play some and not others. Its down to the dj's integrity, the venue/promoters expectations, and of course the people attending's expectations.
  17. You mean me Kev.? Brawling drunk? I asked a question with relevance.Couples - as in boy/girl dancing in the USA to soul music.Very different from our dance scene in the UK.Just wondered if there was a shift in style. Sorry to have bothered you.
  18. My question was genuine.Would have liked a response. On topic as well.
  19. Why two couples? Have they got to dance boy/girl?
  20. And just to add to Steve G's post - Feb 29th 2012 is free at the moment. Its a Wednesday,so should suit Mace,Stevie, and myself.
  21. You live it 24/7 anyway Steve.Like me. I've heard you can get your roots done on these cruises.
