  1. Ernie Marbray has always been sought after by US group collectors for the other side. I used to play this at these old shoes when we first started up about 5 years ago and as far as I was able to ascertain at that time, it was a cheapie and I was led to understand that it was in the ten quid kind of range. Seems that either someone has been 'tipping' it, or it has taken off big time somewhere or other! Great record though, but I am very suprised to see it going for that kind of money! it's a maaaaad soul world!!! Martin Soul-a-Go-Go
  2. Not sure exactly what you mean by "current state of" ... perhaps if you can give more info on what you are looking to get out of an email discussion list, then it will be easier to offer suggestions. There are plenty of them. regards Martin
  3. New list now online with realaudio section for every track.... https://www.soul-a-go-go.demon.co.uk/saleslistnov.html listen before you buy. Martin

  6. No David isnt guesting unfortunately, but he is available for you to pass on your warmest regards and/or abuse in his perspex cage just a double decks length away from the River Bar, Tower Bridge Road, London where These Old Shoes is happening a week on Thursday (October 9th). (nearest tube London Bridge or Tower Hill). Thats if he can last that long! Regulars DJs: Jo Wallace, Alan Handscombe, Martin Thomson plus guest Yann Vatiste. 8pm-12am, £4 on the door playing 60s newies, R&B, classic northern and motown. One of Londons longest running northern soul nights, now heading rapidly towards its FIFTH anniversary! Please note: that due to a national outbreak of "Blaine Baiting" (which has replaced home improvement as the national pastime)- there may be traffic delays over tower bridge as people queue up to laugh at a man who dares to call himself a "friend" of Uri Geller.

  10. The organisers of a huge party to celebrate the 40th birthday of Ben Sherman are looking for some northern soul dancers for their event on 17/9/03 to be held near Kings Cross, London in the evening. Basically, they are looking for around 20 dancers (male and female) to start the night off from around 7.30pm-9pm, either on the stage or the dance floor, while Norman Jay plays his Northern Soul set. Obviously dancers will be allowed to pop off for a beer but essentially, they are looking for volunteers to dance throughout his 90 minute set (timings are approx right now and are subject to change). They are going to have live DJs and bands playing (including The Specials, Norman Jay and others). They will also have Mods on scooters and huge plasma screens for the screening of a specially made movie, fish and chips and real ale for all the guests (free of course) and a birthday surprise moment! There will be no formal payment but of course you will be welcome to stay on at the party for free food and drink, to watch the bands, meet celebrities and soak up the atmosphere! It MIGHT also be possible for some free shirts to be provided- but this would need to be confirmed so don't count on it. It should be a fantastic event, and a worthy celebration for one of the strongest and most consistently authentic brands to impact upon the soul and mod world since the very beginning of both. Interested parties should email Karen.Vincett@bensherman.co.uk (and tell her you are responding to the notice posted by Martin Thomson). This will be strictly a first come first served offer so if you are interested- don't delay!
