  1. My playlist for the first hour is copied below (not in order). As previously set out, our music policy was clearly stated and I an quite satisfied that we delivered what we promised. Plenty of neglected oldies, plenty of well known classics and a few lesser knowns (though nothing stunningly obscure by a LONG shot!) 8pm- 9am Flirtations- Stronger than her love (festival) Syl Johnson- Do you know what love is (Special Agent) Lee Bates - Why don't you write (Instant) Jimmy Castor - It's OK (Jet Set) Larry Santos- You got me where you want me (Evolution) Jimmy Bee - If it wasn't for love (20th Century) Honey and the bees - Why do you always hurt the one you love (Artic) Gracie Darnell - The bad guys (Ruth) Sisters Three - You can forget it (Early Bird) Deadbeats - No second chance (Strata) Athens Rogues - She could love me (Stop) Johnny Robinson - Gone but not forgotten (Okeh) Marquee Review- what good tomorrow (Pacific Revue) Duke and Leonard - Just do the best you can (Stomp Town) Explosive Dynamiks- Whole lotta loving (Lemco) John Andrews - It's just love (UK Parlphone) Diane Newby - What you're putting me through (Kapp) Cookie Scott - I've got news (Mirasound acetate) Ruby Johnson - Keep on keeping on (Volt) Margie Hendrix- One room paradise (Mercury) Sandpipers- Lonely too long (Giant) The Stingers _ I refuse to be lonely (Stax) Karmello Brooks- Tell me baby (Milestone) Roosevelt matthews - You got me digging you (King) Bob and Fred- I'll be on my way (Big Mack) We did have some problems with the venue on the night, and with the equipment. The one thing that I am quite certain we got right was the music. To suggest that the music played was super elitist is quite frankly a load of :graywanker: We promised Rare 60's soul, neglected, forgotten plus classic floorfillers. And that's what we played IMO. As Stuart has already said, we are grateful to those of you who attended, and to Dave Rimmer who made a long journey and delivered a top spot, as Dave always does. Vivos is a deceptively big club and when people disappear into their seats in the booths, it isn't helpful in terms of generating atmosphere - that's not a complaint, it's just a fact reflecting the layout of the venue. We will be back on December 11th with Arthur Fenn in the guest spot. We hope to have sorted out some of the technical problems and hope that we can get a better turnout and deliver a better night for everyone. Martin
  2. Ten possibles from me for Saturday at Solid Hit Soul - a couple are requests already in (that's my story anyway): 1. Bob and Fred - I'll be on my way (Big Mack) 2. 3. I'd love to hear this Ady if ever possible- I take it was never issued by A&S? Is it tape only or actual demo disc/acetate? Martin
  4. Defo 300 Pete yes, it probably was your cut I had offered one or two people circa 200 quid for it previously (over a period of about 5 years) but neither were willing to part with it. Have to say I have no regrets..... !
  5. sorry to come in late on this - 150!?? 300 Pete, I'd rate it at around 250ukp, there was a lot of interest in a demo that was listed on ebay earlier this year, went for 250ukp (I know UK demos tend to go for a lot more, but this is countered by the fact that it's not all that well known and it wasn't that well listed IIRC),. Superb record IMO and took me many years to track down. If you're selling it for 100ukp I'll take it as a spare Still not 'had it's day' IMO
  6. ooh my burning ears, well I beg to differ, I think the Explosive Dynamiks is absolutely brilliant, and I also think the instrumental side of the Utmost in particular (as their vocal take is a bit too 'garagey') is also fantastic. Horses for courses and all that. Martin
  7. email martin@soul-a-go-go.demon.co.uk to reserve. P&P extra, all prices in UK sterling. Paypal is accepted to that address, otherwise payment required in sterling only. If anyone is in the London area, records can be collected from soul in the city next Wednesday evening (see https://www.soulitc.co.uk or the events pages ). This list is being posted on Saturday mid-day. I do have real-life things to do, so if I am out, I will deal with emails on my return on a strict first arrived-first served basis. I will try and edit 'sold' items as they go. All records are guaranteed original first pressings - money back if dissatisfied for any reason. 1. 8. Possibly Johnny Goode on Solid Hit. Oddly enough I put this on CD for a CD swap myself recently nice and cheap- and a decent hammond instrumental version on the flip for anyone that way inclined! Martin www.record-dealer.com
  9. not exactly a different song by any means, but Marjorie Black- one more hurt is a clearer and better mix on the demo than on the issue (not sure if it's just because it's proper mono on the demo and some sort of rechanneled 'stereo' on the issue but the demo definitely sounds a lot better) - well, it definitely did when I compared an issue I had to Jo W's demo  Martin
  10. well I'll have to strongly recommend Caley soul on the 27th, especially as I'm popping up to DJ Martin www.soulitc.co.uk
  11. I think the dance classes are a great idea. I just think it's a shame that he has chosen to clash directly with Soul in the City which has been running for a long time on the first Wednesday of the month, and shall continue to do so. So much for london 'promoters' supporting each other and trying not to clash with each others events etc. Martin www.soulitc.co.uk
  12. telephone Dan??? what's that yes, a good idea- I will do so if I haven't had a response in a day or so- I can't imagine it's ex-directory for obvious reasons thanks for all the assistance from various sources.... Martin
  13. Ray Sorry to post this on here but your email address is bouncing- I haven't received the records I ordered and paid for several weeks back. As I said in another thread- I am not accusing you of anything underhand- I think it is probably a mail problem, but I need to contact you to find out what has happened to them. Please can you respond ASAP either PM me or mail to martinthomson@hotmail.com . If anyone knows Ray and can mention this to him, please do. Cheers Martin
  14. *bump* can ANYONE give me the contact details for the guy who was selling these records! Better still, can the seller himself get in touch please (guy in Scotland who ran a hotel, Ray or Roy.... otherwise I'll have to start tracking it via my bank as I paid for the records by cheque) Thanks Martin
  15. Can the seller of these records please get in touch with me- I am still waiting for records that I paid for several weeks ago- I'm not casting any aspertions as I have been having problems with the postal service locally and it is possible that they might have been undelivered or even sent back to you- however, your registered email account (on this site) isn't working and so I have no way of following this up with you. I have tried PM'ing but with no result. please contact martinthomson@hotmail.com Alternatively if someone has the sellers original list that was sent out by email to most of the people in this thread and more, can they forward that to me so I can get in touch that way- TIA thanks Martin
