  1. heh heh, none taken Pete , well you know what I mean, sort of a rechanneled into stereo sound. The demo is definitely much crisper and sharper. Maybe just a different mix.
  2. LOL, I'm going to start another thread for 'DJ's' along the lines of 'I'm tired of refusing to kiss arse to get spots/tired of having to kiss arse/tired of resenting the fact that other people are better at kissing arse (delete as appropriate depending on your ego assisted perception of your 'popularity' and an honest evaluation of how you reached that point) and therefore, I'm seriously thinking of becoming a "northern soul punter". Does anyone have any tips on how best to achieve this. How does it work : do you just go out and enjoy yourself? Can it really be that simple? Am I still allowed to own any records worth more than 4.99?'
  3. cheers guys (and Mr Fluff, I believe I sold you your copy a couple of years back ) It has arrived and it's actually NOT a white demo as I was expecting, but a regular label with demo etc on it. I was hoping it might be a slightly different mix as, for example, Marjorie Black sounds much better on demo than on issue (I would guess that the demo is proper mono and the issue was some sort of reprocessed mono effort, definitely better on demo anyway)... Martin
  4. Haven't had this before on demo and I'm not sure what the going rate is on the issue either so any suggestions on value? thanks in advance Martin
  5. ----------- Just secured a nice US issue of this myself and can't wait for it to arrive. Two mid 80's 'Kent LP classics' (well that's how they stack for a young 37 year old like me) - can't wait for it to arrive. Only worry will be deciding which side to play (Must admit, a mint UK copy would be rather special though as well!)
  6. call it sods law but the moment this thread came up my web host decided to upgrade their server which meant the site was down for half an hour (and right in the middle of at least one regisrtation). Apologies for anyone who was checking it out but this is now done and everything should be fully functional again so please check it out and register. Martin www.solidhit.co.uk London northern soul - new venue almost found, next night will be announced VERY soon!
  7. yes it's mine, I've been working on it for quite some time (several years). The original site I did was removed a year or so back and replace with this new one which is much much better. All works great now, but definitely need more people to actually USE it. If any soul sourcers want to give it a go, PM me and when you register I'll set you to preferred seller status which means absolutely zero fees for listings and selling items using any options you like. Otherwise it is currently set for free listings, but there are low fees if an item sells, i.e no sale = no fee. But as I say, any soul sourcers may use it for free, in fact register and PM me before Xmas and I promise you can use it absolutely free forever. Can't really say fairer than that? Martin
  8. definitely John Andrews and The Chants for me
  9. William Cummings- Make my love a hurting thing (Bang Bang). Been after it a while, but I know there are copies lurking about.... no ridiculous 1500 quid prices please (like last time ) though comments on what this should be going for are welcome (I thought around 600 quid?)
  10. wonderful record (settle down, and the other side of course). The multi coloured demo was going for a steady 300- 350 until Manship got 750 odd for one . Good hunting.
  11. well I certainly wasn't trying to be smarmy, just genuinely amazed that it would be going for that but if that is indeed the sort of price people are listing it for then fair enough, and I'm very pleased. Not planning on selling mine either. If the price is sensible then someone will buy it even if a few eyebrows are raised. Great record and the best version IMO Martin
  12. and double I wish you well in finding a sale Mike but shurely not a 400 quid record? (and I'd love to be proved wrong as I have one sat at home..... )
  13. for some reason it won't let me reply within the thread, just crashes, re 'How can I forget' instrumental, I love this, was it on the flip to the vocal (presumably)? How much does it go for and does anyone have one for sale/trade??? (not a boot please!)
  14. final bump for these, still some nice tunes available, swaps welcomed. Martin
  15. some further reductions in blue. Trades considered. Martin
  16. would have thought it's a steady 15 quid. Martin

  18. My faves are Debbie Taylor- Check yourself (Decca) Ann Peebles - I still love you (Hi) and most of Dave Godin's volume 1 which is simply incredible, esp 'Try to leave me' Martin
  19. yes me too and double ditto for Joe's comment the world was awash with golden world's in the 30 quid for 100 soul packs back in the 80's/early 90's..... we had so many stone mint copies of barbara mercer we, and all of our neighbours, used to use them as disposable plates. Martin
  20. actually it's coming back to me now and I think I actually have said LP and recall it being really disappointing (probably why I didn't remember having it!) Stuart- yes, bacon fat is the sue 45, but the mid 60's verve albums sound very interesting and I shall investigate further.... cheers Love a bit of hammond, me, and a bit of vibes as well if truth be told
  21. don't know much of his stuff but I do have a copy of the worm backed with an amazingly groovy hammond version of fingertips, it's a european press on columbia I think, and in a pic sleeve. Have another 45 by him on sue which is very dull (title escapes me)... any other sides worth tracking down by Bill from a hammond loving perspective?? I'd be interested in hearing these two as well Brian, don't know them. Martin
  22. it most certainly is, in fact it's the best reason of all
  23. yes I have but I paid considerably more for it so if it's only fetching 200 quid I guess I'll keep it
