  1. well I was the one asking for offers on it as I'd been led to believe it was highly in demand and hard on the 45. Have to say I think it's absolute w**k myself, defo sounds like a very poor cliff richard cover, and possibly one of the worst records since Dean Barlow to have 5 minutes of emperors new clothes fame. Still got it by the way if anyone wants to make an offer

  4. damn, thanks Mark, anyone with one for sale for a similar price please let me know
  5. well it's not a big northern soul scene sound obviously and I have no idea if it is 'in demand' on any other scenes. If you want to sell it let me know - I just want it for my own entertainment
  6. ah interesting, I've seen reference to it as being on a Decca 45 on a few sites though usually wanted. I've got the album (which is absolutely brilliant ) so perhaps if anyone can even confirm it's existence on 45rpm it might save me a wasted hunt. Pete - yes re Dandy but I keep getting constantly outbid when I go as high as 20 quid for one (which I will happily pay for a nice copy) so I thought I'd ask here in the hope of getting a less complicated transaction
  7. Looking for : Johnny Zamot - You dig (US decca) Dandy- Rudy (a message to you) (UK SkaBeat) - cheesy I know, but I just want one! thanks in advance Martin

  10. that's terrible news, I'm very sorry and would like to offer my condolences to Nige's family and friends. Martin
  11. hmm interesting as I'd have though this was pretty much played out at present. no offence intended, got one myself which I've played out regularly for the last 4 years or so and love it, especially the other side which I actually prefer these days. I suppose you get sick of the records you own, or I do at least..... I would agree with Richie on value but I have seen it listed regularly for 275 or thereabouts so am not surprised at 300 + a bit..... it's just that you never know if the things you see for x pounds actually sell for x pounds Martin
  12. one of my fave female belters would have to be the Flirtations- Stronger than her love - monster monster
  13. this is just bizarre, there are some very wierd people about. Also lots of selfish, jealous and greedy ones as well who would rather try and put to boot into somebody else's established night than support it and work along side it. Happens all over the country to some extent, but this is the worst I have ever heard of. let's hope it doesn't fool too many people. Martin
  14. I have one, will consider good 60's trades for it. It's M- Martin
  15. yes I agree. It's interesting to hear what some people regard as forgotten, and others regard as played out (also re the other thread elsewhere)... I would tend to think of this as falling more into the latter category but seeing as I absolutely love it (and the other side) I wouldn't care how many times or how regularly I heard it out..... 1800 quid stevie z, whoosh, that's a lorra lorra cash
  16. Martha Branch - You has horrible distortion on all copies AFAIK... my copy of Kenny Carter Lost and found doesn't have any hiss (well not that my deaf lugs have noticed)
  17. but that's exactly where the problem lies, one person is saying 'if the floor is empty the DJ is not doing his/her job' and you are saying if the floor is filled with safe oldies, then the DJ isn't doing his/her job and perhaps you would prefer an empty floor but less obvious records. Unless you are very lucky and have a strongly supported club where you try to play 'not the same old oldies', by supported I mean by the people who actually attend, then more often or not, in order to avoid 'empty floors at 4am' you end up with the same old same old oldies. It's a vicious circle Personally as a punter I would prefer fresh lesser played sounds irrespective of whether anyone was dancing, as a DJ I would prefer a full floor.... oooh what do you do - try and 'strike a balance' , sure that sounds good in theory, but we all know what packs the majority onto the floor and until we do away with dance floor all together (there's an idea) - then there will always be this 'problem' of the people on the floor often wanting something very different to the people sat around who have paid just as much to get in, and are just as entitled to 'get what they want'. My brain hurts now.... As has been implied, you can't please ANYone even some of the time a lot of the time! Personally I would not go back to somewhere that played the above. Not knocking it for other people if that's what they like, but sounds grim to me, and there are so many great records that need to be played. Perhaps people need to try not to fear the empty floor when DJing, but then you get Billy and his mates out for your blood ha ha it's all good stuff innit
  18. Love 'Heartbeat' myself, absolutely mad frantic a-go-go screaming magic Martin
  19. have to agree here I have been building my set for about 10 years since starting DJing at these old shoes and during this time I have mainly worked on a relatively low wage, since married, had a son, got a mortgage etc. no mega income from anywhere and, if I do say so myself, now have a pretty solid set of tunes including a fair few 'bigger' sounds. I've found plenty of 2-300 quid records for buttons over the years through hard work and luck, and like most people on here, I have bought sold and traded to improve my own box. People who bemoan the cost of records and go on about not being able to play boots are more often than not people who want to get bookings without doing any of the legwork involved in putting together a creditable (and more importantly, to some extent individual) playbox. Getting the bookings and penetrating the self supporting cliques is another matter entirely however. Martin
  20. no need to apologise Hippo, I'm sorry to dislike Mark's selection but to retread the phrase 'good job we don't all like the same records' etc. each to there own and all that....
