  1. Thats right Greg - a lot of early Stafford sounds had previously been broke or attempted to be broke at the Casino such as Smallest Man Alive, also remember 'Stafford' biggies such as Betty Lloyd, Ray Agee, Executive 4, Chaumonts instr., etc being spun in the latter days of the Casino
  2. yeah seen it for sale a few times, cheers richard
  3. YEAH GREAT TRACK, BEEN PLAYIN MYSELF FOR A BIT TOO AT STOCKPORT GUILD HALL - CANT SAY I'VE HEARD HIS VERSION OF 'OPEN THE DOOR...' THOUGH, WHAT LP IS IT ON? WHILE ON THE SUBJECT - YOU MUST HAVE HEARD THE GREAT 70'S VERSION OF 'OPEN.....' BY BETTY WRIGHT ON HER 'EXPLOSION' LP ON RCA, ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE. GRANT
  4. Just got hold of Bertty Wrights excellent RCA 'Explosion' lp from U.S. Some excellent stuff on there, with a great modern rendition of D Banks 'Open The door To Your Heart' on it. Anyone know if this ever came out on a 45 (maybe as a b-side?) thanks grant

total b******s!! - i sure hope that i am around when he plays eddie parker 'im gone' not heard that for years at a niter or soul nite. another gem on his playlist is little nicky soul - absolute stormer that u never hear being played, fantastic dancer - oh and not to forget one of my all time faves the cashmeres 'showstopper'. wont be able to make the first manchester niter mark but will be asking for the above at the next one mate. i dont think it matters how rare or expensive a record is as long as the punters speak with their feet and i cant see one record in mark b's list that doesnt fall in to that category. as mark b says 'keep it real'
  7. BRENDA HOLLOWAY DID A GOOD TUNE ONN MOTOWN CALLED 'LONLEY BOY' (SLOW VERSION OF ERIC MERCURYS 'LONELY GIRL' BUT EQUALLY AS BRILLIANT!). THE TRACK DID COME OUT ON A N SOUL MOTOWN CD VOL 2. THINK U MAY BE ABLE TO HEAR IT ON www.soulclub.org GRANT

I DID SEND TAPE OF IT (FROM WIGAN) TO ALAN RHODES AND HE CONFIRMED THAT IT IS ON PUMPKIN. HAD A LOOK FOR IT AT BLACK MUSIC FAIR IN MANCR ON SAT, BUT NO-ONE HAD IT (OR HEARD OF IT - EXCEPT FOR ADY PIERCE). ONE DAY IT WILL TURN UP I'M SURE (THEY ALWAYS DO!!) KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED MATE GRANT

NICE LYRICS - DOES IT MAKE THE HAIRS ON THE BACK OF YER NECK STAND UP (IF YOU'VE GOT AHIRY NECK THAT IS!) - I'LL NAME THAT TUNE IN 1.
  11. hi there not sure if it ios worth anything. I managed to get hold of a similar record on PYE (Helen Shapiro - Take Me For A While) German pic sleeve, on ebay for $4.00. I would imagine that many copies exist ?!! Can anyone else shed some light on this for our German soulfan? Grant

thanks paul - got it!! it was a JOTIS release and apparently also released on British Atlantic. Grant
  13. heard worse tha Barbra Redd being spun - although it still commands a few hundred quid or so, even if it were a tenner record it still deserves a play. keep your over-priced c--p thats being spun viz. futures, soundmasters (very ordinary 45),houston outlaws etc!!
  14. Cheers Mike - will try and send a recording over the phone, but is a very poor copy and may sound awful. It is a copy of a copy of a..........!! Hopefully someone may suss it though. Grant
  15. ANYONE GIVE ME SOME INFO ON THE FOLLOWING RECORD :- Goldie & The Escorts - I Can't Be Free. Label, value, availabilty and when/where played first? Thanks Grant
  16. Afew weeks ago I posted a 'plea' for anyone who could remember a record by The Legends called 'Deep Inside' played by Mr Alan Rhodes circa Wigan 1979. Superb stomper, he may have had it c/up. He cant remember it, I have it on a poor wigan cd being played by Alan. Sent a tape of it to Pat Brady- he cant quite make it out. Is there any old Alan Rhodes fans like myself out there who waited ith baited breath for his spot every (every other) Sat night at the Casino who remembers this. If Hovis is styill on the scene, and reading this - he dedicates it to you on the tape!! C,mon folks - help a very frustrated soulie out!!

SOUNDS LIKE - TAMMY ST JOHN 'NOBODY KNOWS WHATS GOING ON (IN MY MIND BUT ME)' ON UK PYE. ALSO COVERED BY THE CHIFFONS ON LAURIE (THIS VERSION CAN BE HEARD ON WWW.SOULCLUB.ORG) GRANT
  18. i am all for celebrating anniversaries & if any venue deserves it then it has to be WCSC. But will the events just feature wigan plays, or will the new breed of soul, n. soul whatever be getting plays? keep it simple dj's - just play the stuff that we all know and love from the casino days to give it that tue station rd feeling - keep the 'post-wigan' stuff in your boxes for another nite. i do agree that there will be a 'milk, milk' scenario going on and door prices that are somewhat ott. To keep it really authentic - why not charge wigan 77 door prices !!!(joke)

I AGREE, IT IS INTRODUCING OUR SCENE TO NEW AND YOUNGER AUDIENCES WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE MISSING. ANY GUESSES WHAT THE NEXT TRACK WILL BE ???
  20. MAY HAVE POSTED THIS IN WRONG SECTION EARLIER. ANYWAY, CAN ANYONE SHED SOME LIGHT ON A RECORD FOR ME - PLAYED AT WIGAN CIRCA 1978/79 BY ALAN RHODES, I HAVE IT ON A WIGAN TAPE BEING SPUN BY HIM ON HIS VERY LAST NITE THERE. IT IS BY THE LEGENDS AND IS CALLED 'DEEP INSIDE'. DOES ANYONE KNOW IT, WAS IT A COVER-UP? WHAT IS IT WORTH, AND WHAT IS ITS AVAILABILITY. EMAILED A RHODES AND HE CAN'T REMEMBER IT. DON'T KNOW IF ITS THE SAME LEGENDS WHO DID 'FEAR NOT'? APPRECIATE SOME HELP ON THIS ONE.
  21. recently sold one on ebay for £52!!
