  1. Yeah just saw the other day that mark bicknell had'Dark Wings Has My Angel ' for sale other day on ebay staring bid £1500! I sold it as part of a collecyion (incl. Freddie Williams 'Gotta Live...; C O'Hara ' What ABout You'; Misty Moore, R Hamilton RCA Issue, The Victors, Jewels, June Jackson, and about 50 or 60 more gems for ...Wait for it for ........................................£300.!!!!!! I never seem to get any vivtoprs these days..mmmmmmmmmm...mmmmmmmmmmm Nurse!!
  2. nicely put Grasshopper Donk!!
  3. Agree with Brian Anna. Fanzines to me are an excellent source for info on records, old and new, artists profiles etc. However the benefit of the internet partculalry soul sites such as soul-source provide is that they do provide us with up-to-the-minute gig guides and reviews and of course not forgetting sound bytes. Plenty of room for both - best asking the promoters of the mags whether sales are up or down but even that would be difficult to interpret as being due to the advent of internet soul sites. Hope video helped you Grant
  4. CHALKY MAYBE DONT GET AROUND AS MUCH AS I USED TO IN GOOD OLD DAYS, FAMILY ETC. BUT STILL QUITE UP ON RECENT - RECENTISH STUFF. ANYWAY IF I DIG OUT THAT TAPE WITH BUTCH TRACK CAN I SEND U A COPY OF IT - I'M SURE YOULL PROB KNOW THE TUNE. GRANT
  5. HI CHALKY WASNT HAVIN A POP, BUT WE DO AGREE ON OVERPLAYED OLDIES! SEEMS TO HAVE TURNED INTO AN OLDIS VS NEWIES DEBATE. NO-ONE WILL EVER WIN THAT ONE. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THE 2 INSTR. YOU HAVE POSTED HERE. ON THE SUBJECT OF BUTCH, I HAVE A CRAP TAPE RECORDING OF HIM PLAYING A SUPERB TRACK I THINK AT GT YARMOUTH W/ENDER CIRCA 1988. WHAT A TUNE, BUT DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS, NEVER HEARD IT SINCE, QUITE UPTEMPO, FEMALE - SOME OF THE LYRICS.... ...JUST LIKE THE WEATHER.... ... WE'LL BE FALLING IN LOVE...FALLING IN LOVE........ ENDS WITH 'FALLING IN LOVE' BEING REPEATED WITH THE ODD 'OOOOO' BY BACKING FEMALE SINGERS... I KNOW NOT MUCH TO GO ON , WILL HAVE TO DIG IT OUT , OH IT HAS A DRUM BREAK IN THE MIDDLE! GRANT ...
  6. each to their own eh boys - by the way chalky didnt mean that ALL 'new' stuff was crap & scrapin the barrel - instrumentals were ceratinlyin the main good uptempo dance tracks, maybe i am referring back to my old acrobatice splits et al days !! it also does depend on venues/audience. Also Butch has been my fave dj for the last 16 yrs or so but it doesnt mean i have to like every new discovery he spins - or any one elses for that matter. went to a gig just before xmas, wont say which one cos unfair, and a dj (not mentioning his name either - poor sod) played an hour spot of very obscure (prob v rare) stuff to an empty dancefloor. some of the tunes were great, mostly midtempo detroity stuff, didnt catch any names as he didnt speak a word into the mike, dancefloor was empty for a full hour with people looking around at each other in amazement. dj didnt notice as he didnt even look up - had his nose stuck in his 'coveted' collection. Collector maybe - dj not! The guy running the event (and an oldies/newies dj) rescued the night by playing some good underplayed oldies. So yes I agree with you in some ways but this isnt Top of The BLEEDIN Pops - we dont need 'new releases every week, but we dont want to hear Frank Wilson, Moses Smith, Majestics evry week either but there are some brilliant very underplayed 'oldies' out there that would be first time listens to many people. Classic example is the one Ive posted on here a few times that many djs havent even heard before The Legends 'Deep Inside'. As for the Chaumonts - not heard it for years anywhere, maybe missing something about the scene up North (DOUBT IT). Sorry if this doesnt read right but just get a bit pissed off with some views from time to time. Only asked what has happened to good instrumentals these days. Grant P.S. Did hear an awful instr. of Take Away The Pain Stain' the other day.
  7. hi peter yeah the ritz all dayers on a sunday after wigan eh. remember the hour or so of northern then the hour or so of levine and co playin mecca stuff, ground breaking stuff at the time bringing the two music style together! the plymouth grove event was called the Carousel - they did quite a few all-niters there if i remember right, nice venue, balcony etc. then they ballsed it up by partioning off the dancefloor into sections - anyone remember that!! also your neck of the woods (salford - where i work!) remember a dayer at the willows (we were either transferred from the carousel or belle vue in coaches, cant remember which or why!). think there was also an all dayer at the merry-go-round up your way. atb grant

If you cant pay by credit card, most of them will accept cash - send registered mail or at least conceal well. never had any probs sending cash myself. there are now 2 copies for sale on ebay! 21 hours left on one and 6 days+ on another. Label is Imperial 66305. Certainly cant remember it ever being booted so will be originals. 15. youre right darren, they are pretty bad.
  16. they are all in it for the money mate!! no, some lists better than others unfair to say who is better than who, but if you look around regular lists like Raving Mad Records, Hip City Records etc. have some reasonably priced stuff from time to time, all depends on the usual mate - condition, demand, and not forgetting 'actual' rarity! Raving Mad and Hip City Records both have websites. By the way there is a danny wagner on ebay at the mo for sale think it ends thursday. Grant
  17. PROBLEM IS CHALKY A LOT OF THE NEW STUFF ON THE DECKS SEEMS SOMEWHAT 'SCRAPING THE BARREL '. SORRY TO DISAGREE MATE BUT A LOT OF THOSE TUNES ARE THE SCENES BREAD AND BUTTER. STILL REMEMBERED FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HEARD THE CHAUMONTS ON THE DECKS? TO A LOT OF PEOPLE ON OUR SCENE NOW IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A 'NEWIE'. OH AND DANCEABLE!! GRANT

  22. Whatever happened to good stompin' instrumentals on the scene ? Years ago djs were discovering them by the bucketloads (legit ones that is) - seem to have dried up nowadays give or take the odd one now and again. If no new ones comin along why aren't some of the class oldies spun these days - are instrumentals too fast, not hip? like to hear your views on this subject. heres just a few CRACKERS that have graced the scene over the last 25 years or so that I have been into the music..... Derek & Ray - Interplay / Dragnet 67 Frank Foster - Harlem Rumble Marketts - Stirring Up Some Soul Harley Hatcher - Soul Hustler Chaumonts - Now Youve Gone Sounds of Lane - Tracks To Your Mind Grant
