  1. superb event as the soul scene should be
  2. Hi,i've been into the devils music for far too long and like some i'm bored to death with the same oldies/top 500.I realize there's less of us now going and promoters want to get people in,but surely we can do with fresher playlists?- not just the family favorites/hits on northern soul volume 26 ffs. I've been to "follow the music not the crowd" in Congelton and can recommend that,Paul Mumford at Chesham always played a rarely heard interesting set and the 100 club also used to be good - any others folks? Rare soul was always about finding and breaking new tunes from where ever they could be found, what happened? have we all got complacent ? i don't believe customers will dance to anything-or will they?,i for one keep looking and listening for tunes to inspire me and feel this is what the scene needs.
  3. i've often wondered where most of us fans of the "devils music" are based,an obvious answer would be the north of england, but is that right? there's allways been a big following around bedford for instance, and it appears abroad too, what do we reckon?
  4. if the buildings empty ,maybe we all should consider re opening it?

  7. very true blackpoolsoul, prob why I don't go to those do's,a good dj in my opinion should allways try to broaden their playlist, otherwise we're all stuck in 68 ,72 etc, which is fine if that's what your into ,but the scene needs to move forward also- with rare, underplayed and dare I say it-never played tunes, ktf p
  8. so many great dj's ,but many don't play what they have imo, sure they have great collections, yet play a safe sets,i think now in 2020, in many ways the scene is a bit like formula 1 ,20 main dj's getting the cream spots & the rest trying to get an in,also shouting at the punters to encourage them is piss poor really[ you know who I mean] I gave it up in the early 80t's as it became about networking and not the music,it seems now to get a top spot you need to have a million in tunes, then don't play them, strange old thing really

  10. ovo eh? yes where possible, but if none of the jocks on the night have an original karmello brooks to hand and one has a boot AND its been asked for several times, then imo it should be played to make the paying punters happy [ the same punters that keep the venue going] ,we've all been to see dj's with great records play safe ,should we therefore pay more for a dj with a superb collection and less for a dj with a lousy collection? there are simply too many of us chasing too few originals, ie i'd love a George pepp, fat chance,so what do you do? another thing I have a couple of unreleased motown acetates, should I play them because they're not official ? and I'm yet to watch a paying customer stand over a dj watching what labels being played.

  16. Just got a copy, knew gethro threw bucky, trev n Pauline etc, lovely bloke, allways got time for him,and my fav dancer,i still try to emulate his moves best I can, read 15 chapters and cant put it down, sure its about his home town n wigan ,so what,a lot better book than some soulie tales out there and incredibly moving in places,i'll never complain about my lot again! as books go about the scene this is THE BEST I've read, I'd love a sequel, but it's a lot of work and his life's private ,so we'll have to wait and see! as for the critics, come on it's a damn good book, good on yer geth and many thanks for the book [pete - the bloke who had the blue Suzuki with matching exhausts ]
  17. Hi all,a while back 2004 ? Dean Parish played live at Cleethorpes weekender,i think it may have been the first time he'd been over ,anyhow, during his set he said he had written a new tune - the previous night ? , called "Northern soul dancer",not a bad ditty as i recall mentioning the iconic venues. I, like most there, was dumb struck by his superb performance, and forgot to film it,now has anyone got that on film? and if possible please could they let me know,or better still put it on you tube ?,many thanks pete
  18. a true person,an exceptionally gifted dancer,a wonderfull girl,a huge loss to everyone
  19. I have been out of touch with the scene a bit recently ,last night i went to Stewartby and to my shock , i saw chantels mememorial flyer - it hit me for six litterally, she was an incredible person, funny, talented, full of life,a great friend and sublime dancer,in my opinion, probably the best female dancer down south, some one i hoped would allways be around,i feel like my hearts been torn out,god only knows what kev & family feel,so sad a huge loss,i will attended the event no matter what,i will allways miss her,she was so very special
  20. YES YES AND YES,IN MY VIEW ANY EXPOSURE IS A GOOD THING TO PROMOTE THE SCENE,NONE OF US ARE GETTING ANY YOUNGER,SO GET REAL PEOPLE,WE NEED NEW BLOOD!
  21. hi all,i have only just seen this tragic sad tale,as i dont go on the site as often as i used to, frankly it brought tears to my eyes,if more funds are required i will gladly contribute- so please let me know, i am very proud of all who have helped and belong to the scene, jez the despair some poor folk have,RIP Percy, ktf pete r
