  1. random insider information -- there were actually two "Tom"s. Tommy Dark actually isn't on the original ABC record, this guy who runs (or at least ran) a photography studio on 87th street was. But he left and Tommy toured on the record and is on all the other records.
  2. ok I just read the soul strut thread Kris posted. Although it still leaves it unclear, it gives much more evidence of it being an R&B thing first, including a quote from Joe Bataan saying so. John you are wrong
  3. ok thanks, i guess it's clear as mud then, just all evidence has been wiped out. i still think it was in r&b first, as proven via record titles. i also even gave an example of a latin cut that did not use the word in the title -- Joe Cuba's "bang bang" has to be one of the first and biggest boogaloo hits
  4. Roburt, are you sure that boogaloo was invented in Latin music and then taken as a specific dance in R&B music? I always thought it was the reverse. What is an example of a latin boogaloo cut before 1965 (the tom and jerry-o record date)? For example, I searched and found Ray Barretto "midnight boogaloo" on United Artists, but it is from 1966. I think Chicago Soul says it's the reverse also. I think it was a specific R&B dance and then a Latin music style. Also, btw, I think the most important Boogaloo artist by far was Joe Cuba, he really pushed the sound and is known or it. "bang bang" was even a hit in Chicago, but it was from 1967.
  5. I played patti jo the other day and was wondering who she was, I know / knew nothing about her. Thanks for the info.
  6. nice, lots of great detroit emeralds 45s on the label. This was their first big hit in chicago I prefer the other side though, it's awesome:
  7. , There are so many obscure soul records from every city in California, it's crazy. There are other san diego soul 45s too, not just the ones on this label (lots of one-record-only labels, like the Pinkertones on Queen-G). Other San Diego labels with multiple soul releases that I can think of are Aidqueen, GME, and Musette.
  8. Is it really upsetting that someone didn't know the answer to what text color was first? I don't know. Bobby Treetop seems like an obvious fake name. I was wondering if he was the same person as bobby copney. I listened back to back a bunch of times and can't confirm or deny, it's not obviously the same or obviously different to me. Also, I was wondering if it was a Chicago thing with the Benny Golson (Philly) arrangement on one side but Lew Douglas arranged the other and he was a Chicago person. It's probably out of Chicago. I've never seen a Benny Golson arrangement on anything I think, much less a Chicago record. Anyone have any opinion as to whether Bobby Treetop sounds like Bobby Copney?
  9. I have an original for sure. The deadwax on mine matches yours. I'm also pretty sure it was never booted as it's on all the doowop collectors want lists but almost none of them have heard the record because it's rare. A doowop "repro" would definitely be well known by now.
  10. If the purchaser of the above 45 wants to make it sound as good as possible for a fee, please contact me. if i can't make it sound VG+ or better, no charge...
  11. I just played a yellow vs. green on the funk side, I couldn't hear a difference.
  12. have you had both promatics numbers? there is a slow version and a fast version (they're one catalog number apart). The member I talked to told me that they initially recorded the slow version but later went back to the studio to cut a faster version to try to get disco play.
  13. OK, this is not my list, I'm posting this for my friend Tony. So please don't PM me, or ask questions about specific records on this thread. Please contact Tony at the email address below to reserve or ask about anything. I can vouch for his grading (it's more conservative than mine at least, if that means anything). He's pretty reasonable to deal with too. Thanks. --- All prices are in US dollars. Shipping overseas is $8 with $1 for each additional record. 14. i do have it but am crazy busy, msg me in two days and i'll pull it out
  15. do you know if this label was related? https://www.collectorsfrenzy.com/details/320764644412/Rare_Garage_45_The_Wolfmen_ARCHWAY_RECORDS_Ones_Who_Love_HEAR obviously it's a generic name for a st louis label. The lead vocalist on the Wolfmen single is clearly michael mcdonald, even though it's not mentioned in any of his discographies, biographies, etc., there is no way it could not be him if you hear it.
  16. yeah, that's what i was referring to actually. thanks.
  17. yeah, i agree, it probably didn't come out on enjoy in the US
  18. Like a couple years ago there was one on a Tim Brown list for like 30 pounds and it was listed as "EX". I don't know if it was heat damaged or not.
  19. A lot of the label was leased in productions so the independent producers might also have more material. Howard Ravitsky in Philly (who previously ran the Lash label) produced the Alfreda Brockington and Benny Sigler tracks. He has at least one more Alfreda track that was not released.
  20. This song justifies the existence of the entire label ... a masterpiece https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AhBWAiEjQs the discography lists a 4th houston outlaws that i don't think exists. there is also a typo where it Ailver Hawk instead of Silver Hawk. label gets additional points for being run by (shady) armenians...
  21. you probably won't get one offering $132 though.
  22. I've never seen it on enjoy either. It's common on Front Page. Front Page was a Bobby Robinson (new york) run label distributed by Stax / Volt. So it makes sense that it might have come out on Enjoy first.
  23. it definitely sounds like a track that was used for a real vocal production. I just listened to a bunch of mamie galore records and didn't hear the track. Probably something higgins was involved with (which obviously is a lot).
