  1. this is the first time i've heard of someone trying to profit off "northern soul". shocking.
  2. no. there were many groups called the mystics. the marquette group was from the bay area. this group is from chicago and recorded 2 45s as mystic on art, an LP on art, and some related recordings on phonograph.
  3. in answer the question, the rainy days is a UK-only release
  4. now that i think about it, there was a cut bootlegged with a fake name, it was a cover of the fuzz "I love you for all seasons" bootlegged with the artist name "the phuzzy iv" or something stupid like that. it was off of the east of the underground LP. the bootlegger probably didn't even own the record.
  5. They say they will ship priority or express with signature confirmation. They don't explicitly state they won't falsify customs though. Are you really asking because you want to bid but want to factor in the import costs in your bid?
  6. nobody in sweet soul physically covers up 45s but some people play stupid ego games with their youtube clips and won't label them. everyone knows what they are within a week though but i guess you have to be part of the circle of people in the know. they eventually all get bootlegged onto CD comps so everyone and their mother knows soon enough. i've never heard of anyone inventing new cover up names either, but someone recently did a bootleg 45 of an unreleased record that was probably by the attractions and gave it a stupid name like "terrence bacon and the hotcakes", i guess in order to distance themselves from the real owners of the recording. that's what happened with the "toby bullard" 45 too.
  7. Another issue nobody has mentioned is that if you have a large enough collection, it strongly limits who even has the money to buy the collection as a whole. Even if you have 10,000 quality records, you're still probably not going to find a random rich person who will buy it straight out for their own collecting purposes. I was thinking about this the other day -- has anybody ever established themselves so much that they were able to sell the "john doe collection" to someone? I think John Tefteller plans to do that at some point and he's spent 40+ years hyping up his collection and expertise in order to do so. That dude Paul Mahwinney spent years trying to establish his (crappy random) collection as "the worlds greatest collection", had tons of media coverage, and still couldn't get a random sucker with too much money to believe the hype and just buy it. That leaves a bunch of dealers, and you can probably count on one hand the number of dealers who even have the money to drop on a large collection. And they would be breaking it up so they would really only value the expensive records they could move more quickly and then have tons of cheap records that would take many many years to sell. I have a large, pretty focused collection, and would like to think that it would be recognized as such and bought as a collection for what it is, but that's probably not the reality. The saddest thing is seeing some of the old doowop collectors with large collections die and seeing their records sold for pennies and picked over by vultures. Unrelated, Dennis I met your friend John in Chicago a couple of days ago.
  8. Hi. I did a unique radio show today. This weekend I DJ’ed at the Soul Togetherness event in Chicago playing dance records. For the first half of my show I played some of the ‘70s funky soul I played at the event. I then did a short set of ‘70s sweet soul and changed up the show by doing a long set of early ‘60s transitional doowop / sweet soul. https://www.sittinginthepark.com/3-30-2014.mp3? 9. i know two other ones (but not "the family" actually...)
  10. Kings of Soul - Is your love for me / Girl what you have done - Down to Earth - $1500 Full 256kbs stereo recordings of both sides: https://www.divshare.com/download/25344302-b6c https://www.divshare.com/download/25344303-538 300DPI scans: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/3-2014/kings-a.jpg https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/3-2014/kings-b.jpg Record is G+, almost full gloss with moderate surface scuffs and scratches, no big marks or anything, not trashed, a good play copy. you can see the needle wobble a little bit on playback at parts. i couldn't figure out why it was doing it (it's not a pressing problem, it's pressed fully on center) but in really bright light i can see what looks like very light heat damage causing it. you probably wouldn't notice it if i didn't mention it. it doesn't affect the play (you can listen to the audio) and it plays even at 1.5 grams with no problems. $1500 paypal gift. I will pay registered shipping. I am an honest seller and guarantee my records, will take it back if you feel it was not as described. Email SITPSales@gmail.com to reserve.
  11. if you wet play a record, make sure you keep it wet and clean off all the fluid and rinse it again when you're done. otherwise gunk crusts at the bottom of the grooves that can only be dislodged via another wet play.
  12. I think soulvation army and western world were both run by walt maddox (now deceased). there are some crappy pop and rock records on the labels as well as some rare soul titles.
  13. By "issued" i meant pressed, I'm pretty sure there was no promo with mowest labels, only test presses. Of course crazy stuff appears all the time but it's unlikely.
  14. Hi. Last Sunday on my radio show I did another flashback show, this time replaying the music from 2-11-2007. I decided to post it online this time as it was broadcast on Sunday, with my commentary from 3-23-2014, as I decided it would be more informed. The show was really good, you should check it out below. Also, I hope to do a new music show this week -- thanks to all my listeners! https://www.sittinginthepark.com/2-11-2007.mp3? 15. I would post a photo of bob miner but it would probably violate the terms of the site
  16. i'm like a crack detector and have to return many records. some cracks that are very tight and at the edge are very hard to see and people miss them.
  17. i'm pretty sure gule was a tax scam 45 label which is bizarre, there were tons of LP tax scam labels but it wasn't worth it to do for 45s. There's at least half a dozen records on the label. The candi-bars on gule is basically an '80s tax scam bootleg, but it's stupid rare since i assume most of the records were destroyed.
  18. sorry this happened to you. i didn't think of the "found it cheaper" explanation.
  19. he tried to facebook friend me yesterday and i hit "ignore"
  20. i like the candace love version, but they're very different. candace love is more sweet soul.
  21. I'm pretty sure there was no blackberries 45 released on mowest. i have a few mowest unissued test presses, i think a gc cameron and something else i can't remember right now.
  22. I'm completely lost here. If he claimed it was cracked to try to get a discount and didn't get a discount, why would he waste his money returning a record that wasn't cracked? he's out money too. you're both out postage. he returned the record you sent him. what is the scam? because if there is a scam, it's a pretty crappy one, a scam to waste his own time and money?
  23. i've used wood glue and what people here call PVA glue (we just call it "elmers glue" in the US as it's omnipresent in schools growing up, it's white). they both have about the same effectiveness but i'd prefer the PVA glue because it is water soluble. If you don't peel it all off you can just wipe it off with water and a cloth. there's not much to be scared of if you want to try it because it's water soluble.
  24. sorry for posting outdated info. still interesting to find out some personal info about obscure artists. i hope his life is back on track.
