  1. If you're going to pay someone to flatten vinyl, you should contact a record store that has a real expensive vinyl flattening machine rather than someone who has a dinky $99 record clamp and heating bag. The machine is the safest thing. However, there are definitely cases where you can still render a warped record unplayable by flattening it (usually when flattening a very sharp warp -- it will cause the needle to jerk back and forth rather than up and down, and that may be too much for your turntable and might skip).
  2. I bought it after reading positive comments from people who used it with the heating bag. However, I'm guessing that if your stereo is sensitive enough to pick up fidelity changes from a light warp, that after flattening the original fidelity issue or some new issue would remain.
  3. i bought one a month or two ago but haven't had a chance to try it out yet (haven't even opened the mail packaging). will report back in this thread when i have some results. I also bought the heating bag, my oven is barely a safe place to put food, much less records.
  4. their other cotillion 45 "Thief" was a BDP sample I think. They are the same nola group as the Jades on Mode.
  5. yeah my comments were specific to the US site, have no idea what goes on on the UK site. With all those boots, etc. it looks like the soul music red light district.
  6. thanks for clarifying the value of this record
  7. I interviewed them; interview is on my website. "al-tog" stands for "all together" and is just another Scott Bros owned label. The Scott Bros mixed out most of the group backing and mixed up themselves (the band) which was unfortunate. They were supposed to sign with Stax and the Emotions song "Toys to boys" was originally intended for them but they didn't sign due to bad management advice. They only released those two different 45s (with one coming out on two labels). One of the members, Vandy Hampton (deceased), was later in the Chi-lites.
  8. if you don't want to risk it I can clean it for a fee. also can fix skips, clean up labels, etc. can fix deep scratches too but it takes an extremely long time.
  9. it's not an issue with your computer. Ebay is a large system that has to be highly distributed because no one server could handle the millions of users. That means that data gets replicated and cached across different servers and a server can potentially have stale data if it hasn't been updated. I really doubt this specific problem still exists, it probably only existed a few hours after the ID change. They really probably should have restarted or flushed the cache of the replicating servers at the time the ID changed happened to prevent this issue.
  10. fyi, j r johnson is also jay r johnson on hawk. he said he recorded some R&B thing on atomic-h under a different name (and had an awesome 50s photo) but didn't remember the name. his cousin was menard rogers.
  11. no what happened was that they changed the category ID but some servers had stale data and was either filtering on the old ID or didn't have the updated item listings with the new ID
  12. I also 100% agree that you need to use a microfiber cloth. Anything else leaves gunk in the grooves which you will see on your stylus when playing back the record. I used to buy them at auto accessory stores but recently found that home depot (hardware store) has 24 packs for $10.
  13. Just wanna say that all the suggestions in the thread are safe EXCEPT I would not use WD-40, it pretty much stays in the grooves forever and gives it a fake sheen. Also, it was a warning, but I would also emphasize not to use Acetone (nail polish remover).
  14. Jack Montgomery was a hit in Chicago. I used to find it in 10 cent bins at different stores because they didn't know some random singer on scepter (a mostly pop label) would be anything.
  15. Hi. I moved this to events because it's a promotional video and playlists for an event. The point of the thread is not the video and it would be bad if the audio/video section got filled up with promotional videos. Thank you.
  16. no, other people have more background but have asked me about it. i have had multiple people ask me for a copy of the 45 and several people insisting that it does exist. I am really into collecting stang/turbo/all platinum/vibration/etc. but there is so much weird rare stuff on the label that it's very possible some weird press exists. you'd think it would be on someone's DJ playlist at this point though.

  18. I'm pretty sure both sides got radio play. It's crazy though because I just searched musicstack, gemm, discogs, and ebay and there are very few Maze 45s for sale at all. The ones for sale are random titles people don't care about. Maybe someone is cornering the Maze market.
  19. there is controversy as to whether it exists on 45 or not
  20. no, I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to think of it right now
  21. those sound like great people to hit up for records!
  22. i think teddy vann's bazillion uses of the frankie and the classicals "what should I do" backing has been established here as the most backing track recycling
  23. I'm so glad I don't live somewhere where I have to potentially see this commercial
  24. for what it's worth, I never had any problems dealing with andy
