  1. I've never seen fibers on the needle using a microfiber cloth. I have seen it for almost every other cloth or towel (the absolute worst is cotton, do NOT ever use cotton or a cotton swab to clean the record). Maybe it was from a previous cloth? what do your microfiber cloths look like? obviously if they are coming off onto the record they aren't lint-free and probably should be avoided.
  2. it came out on a gold skymac label before laurie. skymac pres is rarer, it's also vinyl (which many laurie copies are not). skymac was a new york label and most of the numbers are quality early soul. i might have a double of this to sell if you're looking, i would have to check (I am going to go through my stuff tomorrow for some other people's requests anyways).
  3. Also, flip of 126 is "breaking up is hard to do", it's the neil sedaka song
  4. I'm your special fool ended up being funky. The only ballad on the first three deluxe 45s on lundy that I own is "prove it" which was actually very good. Don't have #126
  5. Lots of information is on the internet already. For example: 2. only soul releases U-0166 Linzy Washington "If You Want To Cry (Like A Baby)/ You Don't Know" U-0278 Sundia "Stand Up And Be A Man/ Pt. 2" 1975 First pressing shows incorrect title "Stand Up Like A Man/ Pt. 2" U-0300 Dirk and Tony "I Dig You Baby/ Sitting In The Park" 1975 U-0311 The Black Exotics "What Am I Waiting For/ Theme of Blackbyrds" 1975 U-0317 Joseph Bowman "What Is Love/ Fairlane Vera" 1975 U-0326 The Ufonics "Cut The Mustard/ It's You" 351 Mixed Feelings "Sha-La-La/ Love Will Find A Way" 1976 No # Lu's Grooves to Satisfaction "Make Me Feel Real/ The Time Is Now"
  6. I just want to say that I don't think Nev did anything evil and it's sort of blown out of proportion in this case. I just was making a much more general point not directed at anyone in particular.
  7. I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has talked to many artists that have had misinformation spread about them via rumors posted on the internet which have been repeatedly copied as fact. They might be pieces of plastic but real people's lives were involved and they get angry and feel powerless to stop the misinformation or even to just get properly credited for their life's work. Sure it's a discussion forum, I'm not saying not to discuss, just saying to take a minute to try to actually make an informed post. If you're honestly interested in answering a question vs. just participating in banter, I would think you would want to do that.
  8. with respect to steve's post, i also personally get annoyed at speculation posted as fact, etc. however, annoying nerds like me (probably a fun / productive activity) isn't the issue, the issue is that it's being posted on the internet which then becomes googleable as some sort of authoritative source of information, and then "facts" spread by being copied across different mediums. It's different than talking to your friends in a bar or email. even i've said stuff that ended up being wrong, my only point is to put in some due diligence (e.g. at least a quick google, doesn't take hours) into looking into something if it's gonna be posted. also, you often end up learning about interesting things / connections you never thought of before.
  9. please report back, I'm interested to know if the cloth you have really does work better. If you're looking for something to get more in the grooves though, the microfiber cloth definitely will do that better, it has tufts that work their way into things, and the tufts don't come apart (e.g. it's lint free). They also suck up liquid via capillary action.
  10. wait, what is a furry gonk?
  11. i'm guessing not
  12. it's a kim weston cover also
  13. it is a reissue / repro label. the wax museum is a record store in North Carolina. This is their record label. You frequently see their press of the commands "no time for you". This is their website: https://www.waxmuseum.net/ They mainly focus on Beach Music.
  14. if you collect reggae it's all vinyl, right? People should take caution with a heavy tonearm approach if cleaning styrene records so as not to cause burn. Why don't you clean it first and then play it through on the heavy turntable? That way you are not pushing around / embedding / scratching the vinyl with the dirt. You could even do one quick clean after that to get any gunk that was dug up at the end.
  15. Honestly after trying tons of different things, a microfiber cloth will work better than that "record cleaning cloth" and is more guaranteed to be lint free. You should buy some and do some comparisons. Post back if you disagree after comparing. It's not like they hired some special designers for that cloth, they just wanted a soft cloth so as not to scuff the record (and it doesn't even say that it's lint free).
  16. The internet opens up some previously insular worlds of collecting. The record is still very rare, I happened to get one copy being in Chicago at the right place at the right time and I bought the other one on ebay (not for cheap). I think it's been on ebay 3 times over maybe a 10 year period. It was on my want list for a long time. My point is just that counting the number of copies is a pointless exercise because there might be 30 copies in people's collections (even if someone can only think of two in their circle) but the record could still be extremely rare. And the record is really good, I think you should post the track on youtube or soundcloud at this point so other people can hear it -- you might have promised not to circulate it but it's not a secret anymore and I can even send you audio of one of my copies if you want.
  17. you keep telling me the thing about some sort of extra thick vinyl, but both copies are just (good) vinyl presses, nothing weird. both have identical deadwax and are from the same plates btw
  18. my copy is the only one without the logo that I've seen. I've been told that this group had members of the doowop group the Quintones on Park (who are from the same housing that the doowop group the Debonairs are from).
  19. actually now collectors need both label variations. i'll take a photo in a second to prove i'm not BSing.
  20. that practice only started in the 70s though (obviously with some exceptions such as one-sided chess records), in the 60s X's or "plug side" printed on the label told DJs what to play. I think the main reason is that they are royalty free as Ian mentioned (although the tax thing makes sense too).
  21. and the orr record is a 100% male group
  22. "why pick on me" has nothing to do with those other groups, although it is vaguely related to the chicago doowop group the debonairs on ping. it is a chicago group, and they spell their name the Deboniers. I actually have two copies with different label variations.
  23. fyi, there are other people's houses as well as public places
