  1. this is a very good name for a management company
  2. you got it embedded but divshare is broken at least 50% of the time (I can't believe they're still in business) and your clips won't play. buying hosting space is the way to go.
  3. the traits are even the texas group
  4. I'm pretty sure they were two different philly groups with that name -- there's probably some story about how the name got passed down. I can't think of any outside Ben-Lee production, they helped define the early philly soul sound (also has philly writers). Also, Ann Byers is definitely from philly and is on the label, so there's another example where the record was just placed on the label.
  5. the flip is an unrelated funk instrumental, there is a whole separate story behind the actual funk group the soul stoppers
  6. Thanks. Are you saying that Corwin used Cohen as a pen name just based on these credits or is it established in other works too? I always thought Butane was Miami because the Marvells on Butane were from Miami but I think you're right, it's east coast and I think related to the Angie label. The Chevells is '64. Sea Shells definitely sounds later than '65 to me. Deadwax has ZTSC127033 in it, does that date it? I'll look for it in now.
  7. there are dozens of 45s that say "from the LP" where there was never a released LP. What's more interesting is if an LP was actually recorded and sitting on tape somewhere.
  8. Thanks for the info! I hope your treatment goes well.
  9. Also, although the academy label mentioned has a new york address, it was 100% a philly production if you look at the credits (ben-lee, phil hurtt, etc.). Other philly records (e.g. ann byers) came out on this academy. The pentagon group is an unrelated White group. There were several other records by other honey bees groups not mentioned in this thread btw (but not related).
  10. It's cheaper than $96 a year to buy hosting space and upload the files there. Divshare is even worse than the auctionplayer and doesn't work half the time. You should look into buying hosting space.
  11. I have a promo and a stock copy, can record both to see if there's a difference if you bug me about it.
  12. If the crack snaps in so it's aligned exactly on both sides ("tight crack") you can stabilize it by heating up a fork or something similar and burning a small dent into the outer wax where the two sides of the crack connect. It fuses the vinyl or styrene together so the crack becomes sort of an "inner crack". It's still easy to split it again accidentally or on purpose, but you have to actually apply some pressure to do so so it's less likely to be accidental.
  13. Here is johnny and the expressions btw. Was he the only guy in this photo in your group? ressions smaller.jpg]
  14. Hi, here is my latest Sitting in the Park music show. The show is a nice mix of early, mid, and later 70s uptempo cuts, a set of blue eyed soul ballads, and a nice set of late 70s / early 80s sweet soul. You can listen to the show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-7-2012.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com. 15. It doesn't really sound impressions-ish to me. I think the similarity might just be Johnny Matthews voice:
  16. Also, a vaguely amusing side note (and what prompted this comparison actually) was that Lovelane music (the publisher on the Sea Shells record) got the Sea Shells / Chevells song synced in a Snoop Dogg movie called "Bones". So someone got ripped off... Maybe Tom Moers even bought out the rights to the song (probably not) but the writing should not have changed. Weirdly they managed to place "Quiet Home" in remember the titans. Bizarre. I didn't see that movie, did anyone else here see it?
  17. So apparently the flip of the Sea Shells on Villige -- "another tear must fall" -- is the same recording as the Chevells "another tear must fall" on Butane. Anyone know the story behind this? They don't really sound like the same group and they don't have the same credits. The Chevells record was produced by Roy Corwin and Tommy Moers and writing credits R. Corwin - T. Moers. The Villige record was produced by Tom Moers. Writing credits Moers, Cohen [not corwin], Kaplan. The Villige record a-side is clearly later in sound and the singers don't really sound the same. It looks like Moers stole the master that he partially owned and used it as the b-side of the single he produced. However, why would he had the two extra people in the writing credits? Anyone know if there really was a connection between the Sea Shells and the Chevells?
  18. also, that's clearly the same voice from johnny and the expressions on your record. how did you end up meeting the guys and forming the group?
  19. I'm pretty sure Johnny and the Expressions were from New York. There are uninformed people who say that Johnny Wyatt (who actually was from LA and lead singer of Rochelle and the Candles) was "Johnny" in the group but that is total BS. You are more of a primary source as you sang with him! Also sorry about your health, I hope it improves with the treatment.
  20. Hi Lenny. I think I talked to you on the phone a long time ago, you told me that johnny matthews of johnny and the expressions was in this group. I think you were sick and I hope you are doing better now. Did you remember the 3rd member? Thanks.
  21. Isopropyl alcohol is definitely safe on styrene, most record cleaners are based on it (and I've cleaned tons of styrene 45s with it). Don't know what else is in the foam and if that's safe though. I have lots of garbage records to test on / ruin before I do stuff to the real things.
  22. How is that different than a discussion of two legit presses, one done a few years later, with slightly different label colors and deadwax, and needing a microscope to determine which is the "acceptable" one to play? That thread would many pages with many complicated sets of rules and many people participating. Talking about the 7" mix and 12" mix goes beyond talking about the size of the record and goes down to the actual musical content. Which is crazier?
  23. Are you sure you mean this thread? And not like 50 page threads about OVO or the many other more controversial subjects than 7" vs 12"?
  24. expensive and rarely comes up for sale. don't want to give a price because i've seen so many fluctuations but I'd say at least $300 if not significantly more. I'm also moving this topic to look at your box since it is record-related. Thanks.
  25. this is frequently if not most of the time not true. 12"s were often disco edits done after the track was finished where the initial song was lengthened / extended. It's not a more "authentic" original take in that case.
