  1. thanks john, i appreciate it. so the final question is -- is she white and is that a piece of her photo on the label or just an unrelated sticker? thanks again.
  2. it couldn't possibly look more like a philly pressed record, do you disagree robb? and the fact that she has to be the same person as on millage is just confirmation. i have no idea what city she was actually from. frankie, thanks for your info. anyone else ever seen this sticker? anyone ever seen a pic of tawny?
  3. I just got this 45 by Tawny Von on clearly a Pennsylvania area label (pictured): She has to be the same person who recorded as Tawny Vonne on Millage out of Pittsburgh. Anyways, on the label of the copy I got you can see a half-torn off sticker with a picture of a white lady on it. My question is: is the white lady Tawny Von or is it just something someone else put on the label after the fact? Are there other copies with the sticker on it? If so, can someone post an image of the label with the entire sticker? Even if not, it would be cool to know if that sticker is her and other copies came with the sticker. Thanks in advance.
  4. also, the chronology in the allmusic article is wrong
  5. my friend is friends with the producer / manager Bruce Clarke (who did a lot of unrecognized work in the industry in New York). The Brothers III 45 came out a few years earlier than the Heavy Duty 45. The Enchanted Five record came out around the same time as the Brothers III 45, both in 1969. The Heavy Duty 45 is from 1972. "Try a little love" was just used as the b-side of the Heavy Duty 45 but is not by the Topics, it's by the Enchanted Five. There are no common group members between the Enchanted Five and the Topics. Two members of the Enchanted Five were later in the Ultimates on Br-Roma.
  6. I believe you. I was saying that if you had good scans / photos of the deadwax of these and then a scan of the deadwax of "heaven is in your arms", you'd see a difference. The only time deadwax won't tell you info is if it's blank.

my neighborhood is completely covered with street art. it vastly outnumbers the latin gang graffiti (which there is still plenty of).
  8. I can print a new label and paste it on too but unless it's styrene and I can remove the old label, it's a pasted on label and not fixed
  9. if the record says -A and -B and plays the same song, the one that plays the different song has to look different. even if the same things are written it's not written in the same way. so it might not be easy to tell the difference without knowing what to look for but i'm sure if you posted scans of the correct vs. not correct sides someone could memorize it.
  10. as long as there's something printed in the deadwax, i'm sure that you don't have to play it to know. it's not that common that there would be nothing there at all.
  11. i was glad to win it too, someone had offered it to me for $1500 (too much) but it is stupid rare. the one i won is not that clean. i can't believe i missed a copy for 12 pounds.
  12. derek, what is the image of? I'm still confused as the image, is it an original copy with an alternate label? because someone said it's not an image of a bootleg. it looks more than just the colors being different in the comparison scan above, the "pat lewis" text is in a slightly different spot.
  13. my only point was that there are tons of records that are extremely rare to find "in the field" but which exist in the UK as unplayed stock because of the work of john anderson and some others. so using the fact that almost all the copies are clean stock that exists in the UK as evidence of a bootleg isn't a good argument imo.
  14. the second one says "licensed by jimmy ellis" which is sort of alarming. but it could have been licensed in the '70s.
  15. Hi. For the second year in a row I did a raw '70s blues funk mix in honor of Tax Day. The government has your money and all you got is the blues. 16. also, as already pointed out, people are giving too much credit to artists or producers who remember little. there are some people with very sharp memories but they are in the minority. If you had a 40 year career, were old, and some random person just started asking you questions about when you were very young, do you think you would instantly remember? each of my interviews probably takes about 3-4 hours of previous discussion at least even with people with good memories. on top of that people have already pointed out mistakes in other solid smoke liner notes.
  17. the "7" was me being a smartass, I never tried to count copies of the record, i was making a point about the rarity, as i've only seen it for sale a few times. however, i didn't know that there were hundreds of copies in collections in the UK. I don't know why you would single this record out though, as the same story about rarity and john anderson getting the stock is true for hundreds of records. my copy is a clean VG, definitely used and found fairly clean but i'm pretty sure found in the US.
  18. at least in the '70s, major label promos were usually vinyl and stock was often styrene, I assume because they didn't want the records getting burned out and played over the air
  19. i've never ever seen that. the logo is totally different too. is the recording exactly the same?
  20. i know group collectors who bought this in the '70s. people have found beat up copies in detroit. i can't imagine who would have bootlegged it at what time and for whom and why they would have pressed like 7 copies. like they were planting a few copies as some sort of conspiracy to be discovered and discussed by northern soul collectors 40 years later.
  21. i haven't seen an orange copy, i have a beat up blue copy. assuming you're talking about the early vocal version of the song. can someone post a scan of an orange one?
  22. i swear there was another release on karen with that label design but i must be confused, i don't see one in the discography that i know has that design. both sides of the record are great imo, and the jimmy delphs version is way worse than the volumes version imo.
  23. this was far from a hit locally, that's why it's so rare. i'm sure it's not a bootleg.
  24. That sounds like the goldmine "good". I would say $40-$80 in that condition, maybe more if you put it on ebay and people get into a bidding war.
  25. 8x8x8 doesn't fit any flate rate priority boxes but it does fit the dimensions for a first class package (which have maximum length 24 inches and maximum length height and depth totaled of 36 inches). Assuming you put it in a box that is not much bigger than the box you are shipping, you should be able to get the regular FCPIS rates. The 1 lb rate to most countries is $15.08 if you print using endicia, pitney bowes, etc. or $16.75 at the counter. The USPS website used to not let you print FCPIS (it only let you print priority). It looks like they might have changed it, I'm not sure, but if they do let you print FCPIS it should be $15.08.
