  1. WTF? EXACT SAME RECORDING!
  2. Hi Lorraine, thanks so much for the information, I really appreciate it. Here is a youtube clip of "Don't take your love", a really nice ballad: do you know the names of all the members? I'm just trying to get info to include in the new volume of "Soul Harmony Singles", a reference book where we try to list all group harmony soul 45s from about 1960-1990. Thanks again for your help.

It's the same ra-sel label. Don't know about the producers, just making a comment on other releases on the label.

there are more records on ra-sel, if that's related -- e.g. two 45s by the metros and one by the uptites

  6. Hi Lorraine. I'm sorry that you got ripped off on this. I hope you find out how the masters got over there. Was "Don't take your love" an unreleased track you produced on the Smith Brothers? I was wondering if you could give info on who the smith brothers were and where they were from? Did any of the members record in other groups? Thanks for your help.
  7. no they are not. is lorraine chandler still on here? if so, or if someone knows, can anyone say where the magnificents on mam / smith brothers are from and possibly give personnel? thanks in advance.
  8. that is Pure Soul on MAM
  9. at least 6: Magnetics on Allrite (detroit) Magnetics on Bonnie (aka the Volumes, detroit) Magnetics on Ra-sel (philadelphia) Magnetics on Sable / JV (chicago) Magnetics on Sound Trap (Richmond, VA) Magnetics on White Cliffs (new orleans)
  10. For DJing you should probably only use a conical cart if you play any styrene. Ideally you would use one for styrene at home also. Elliptical carts reveal more detail in the audio and are better if you have a nice setup. Otherwise you might just want a good sounding conical cart for home also. re: headshell, it is a total bitch (at least if you're not experienced at it) to mount a cartridge correctly in a headshell and attach the wires. Every time I have bought a new cartridge I have bought it from somewhere that sold headshells also and asked them to wire it up. A headshell is cheap.
  11. recordings sound the same to me. thanks for pointing this out, never knew this.
  12. Are you sure it's a woman and not a guy singing falsetto? The lead tenor does have a very high voice even before he hits falsetto.
  13. Starbright - "He's an aries man"
  14. apparently the counts 45 on shrine single-handedly revived the british economy

  16. currency fluctuations
  17. I've heard people say 60s acetates no longer smell but I can still smell 60s acetates. It's like the opposite of a dog, you need someone with a poor sense of smell to tell if it's from the 60s.
  18. I'm pretty sure it is an italian exploito group. Definitely the same group as on 20th century. Look here: https://www.discogs.com/artist/Today%27s+People+(2) There are scans with common names. Yes I did link to a webpage, but just because it was easier to illustrate this way.
  19. I was wrong about the date, I found "She'll come running back" in copyright. It's copywritten Nov 6th 1969. It might have actually come out at the beginning of 1970, but it's just around '69-'70. What's weirder is that it's marked as "cancelled". The record must have been released before he joined the visitors but after the versatiles.
  20. No, but people in Chicago and Detroit have always thought their records were worth money or it was hard to find stuff anyways. People have been plastering Detroit with record flyers on signposts and telephone poles for many years and have more recently doing flyers and direct mail in Chicago. When I was in DC around 2000, it was so easy to get records compared to Chicago. I swear I had records in my hand and people would drive up to me in the street asking me if I wanted their records and bring some to me. I made a few phone calls to thrift stores in the phone book and before the end of the day I was in a huge apartment with all rooms filled with 45s.
  21. I actually have a record collection I can look at.
  22. yes, I have 5020, would like to see 5031 for confirmation. Thanks for posting though.
  23. I'm surprised by Dave's response in that thread (saying the group was from detroit). I think they were an italian exploito euro disco group who had previous releases on 20th century. I thought I saw common names on the lindee / gamma release. I have to check again.
  24. everybody in DC read that post article and decided their records were worth a million dollars afterwards
  25. please do not confuse the Chicago marvello group with the Ohio airtown group
