  1. One final post -- this topic was locked by the thread starter. Please post a final comment saying you're locking a thread and why when locking a thread. Given that a real issue has been raised, if someone has anything positive or negative to add that reveals more info, positive or negative, PM me and I will unlock the thread. Thank you.
  2. There also is an ad-libs 45 that only came out on Canadian right on ("Dance with me children"). I think there's another (Canada) right-on 45 that books for something, can't remember what it is.
  3. I think the records are real, it was staged as a find in a bunch of relatively common records
  4. yeah, the yearbook staff seem like total jerks
  5. I'm in the US so I can't help you with questions about "the scene" at all, sorry. I was trying to give background on the group. Sorry it was not of interest. Thanks.

  7. 1960s, are you joking? it's a disco track. Canada still has local content requirements: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_content
  8. what else do you want to know?
  9. there are a lot of different stories people tell about how it happened, but Herb Butler told me the actual story and the other members of the actual Players group are bitter about it so he didn't want to do an interview. It involved shadiness by their manager Al Smith. Herb is a super nice guy though. One of the other members of the Players later recorded as Johnny September. The Players are one of the many groups from Cabrini Green, housing projects on the north side of Chicago.
  10. Independent of the awkwardness to carry and unsafeness, I'm pretty sure it's over most airlines' weight limit for carry ons. You will have to check it as baggage. There are pretty standard flight cases for 1200s (which aren't cheap themselves) that you can buy.
  11. also, that pic of that early synth is pretty awesome, thanks for posting it. i remember hearing one 60s marvelettes record and noticing a weird synth in it. anyone ever make a list of motown 45s that used that?
  12. someone on the other forum pointed out that the bassist is wearing half a shirt...
  13. Stolen from another forum where someone found the actual yearbook and scanned them:
  14. yeah, they are fun to hang out with. when we were at a bar in new york some big dude kept trying to start a fight with us, he kept saying "I RUN BROOKLYN!" and we were just like "okay...".
  15. My favorite part of "I'm so devoted" is when one of the singers' voice cracks during the falsetto.
  16. I honestly would love to hear the "genuine reason" so I could apologize.
  17. it's not general bitching. Sure, saying "you need to grade", etc. is general bitching. But posting a very specific issue (which would not lead to negative feedback by the way) that is not "bitching" is a real thing. He even posted in the thread and chose to ignore the question. You brought these auctions to the attention of soul source, don't you think it's important to also include a real potential problem that might hurt (or unfairly raise the bid amounts of) bidders? I honestly hope he has some real, legitimate explanation and that I'm totally wrong. overall you're saying that it's okay to lead soul sourcers to something potentially good but not to warn them about something dangerous and potentially bad about that thing.
  18. I totally disagree. There are a million threads calling out sellers, sometimes unfairly. None of those sellers asked for their auctions to be posted. This thread was a positive thread praising (and effectively advertising) his auctions. I bet he wouldn't have complained at that point. This led to the question about the exact same auctions with photos showing up in popsike -- a very legitimate question and that raises red flags. He responded after the question was asked and chose to ignore it. You're saying because he posted his phone number and responded to other questions that people should just ignore that issue? People post "buyer beware" threads all the time, often unfairly (or at least based on very loose speculation), and nobody demands those threads be closed. Now that the seller comes on here and responds and gives his phone number, ignoring a real issue, that makes it okay? It's not random complaining / accusations. If he has a legitimate explanation I'm very sorry to have cast doubt on his auctions, and I even said so when repeating the question. But I have a hard time understanding how the popsike thing happens otherwise aside from shill bidding and relisting.
  19. I think Believe Me was pre-shrine though.
  20. I think the Epsilons is clearly the best record on the label. That's why it was a regional hit making it more common (albeit beat up) -- it's a great record.
  21. This has a very Chicago Steppers type of sound.
  22. hey rob if you know his social security number i can find out if he's dead
  23. at least it's on vinyl
  24. The hem release is clearly rarer but I don't know how you could say it's better. It's pretty much a copy / answer record to the first one and has pretty much the same sound.
  25. I don't know, but leaving westbound and going to motown and recording "smiling faces" with norman whitfield as the undisputed truth was the best thing the group members could have done. The final female member (Virginia McDonald) became a part of the Eighth Day, who also had bigger hits than the Magictones.
