  1. It actually was an original release, it was the Cole release in 1977. That is a repress of the cole record with the out of tune violin dubbed on the "gold" side.
  2. have you seen the difference or are you just going by the discogs comment?
  3. well if the deadwax actually is identical it's not possible to have it opposite (unless you're talking about which one was released first, since he has one as '75 and one as '76).
  4. ok sorry, i posted before seeing this. so the deadwax is different? If so, they might be different mixes. They sound similar though so it would be cool to settle this once and for all.
  5. Manship 5 and 6 has two different descriptions for the two '70s presses. From 6: "Very rare 1975 1st. press 2 turn deadwax EC 5709 A @ 6 O'Clock, upside down circled BA @ 12 O'Clock position. bottom of the label text credits arranger: Fred Cagaanan note: The E in the matrix resembles a back-to-front 3" "original 1976 press. This press has a 2 turn 16.41mm wide deadwax. Scratched matrix reads EC 5709 A @ 6 o'clock, upside down circled BA @ 12 o'clock position. Note: label does NOT credit arranger: Fred Cagaanan." although it's not clear, reading the two descriptions, they sound like the same plates as Chalky says -- nothing contradicts at least. If they are the same plates they are the same mix and only the label credit differentiates the presses.
  6. If it's not trouble for you that would be cool. If I could get the other one (or even if someone points to a youtube video saying which version it is), I will post the results here, which should solve some confusion. I think there might be 3 different Rock-Way presses from the '70s though which is confusing. Like one came up on ebay, one that everyone had down as a '90s press, but it was clearly an old '70s record. I could also be confused and adding to the confusion though.
  7. Thanks everyone for contributing so far. If anyone can confirm / unconfirm that there are two (or more) different Rock-Way label mixes from the '70s (again, not the Cole label 45), how they are different, and which press has which mix and how to identify them, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.
  8. It actually was pressed to promote the Malt Liquor, it comes with a hard to find pic sleeve from Old English 800 telling people to distribute the records on college campuses and how to request more from the company. The record was going for money when it was initially in demand but has dropped significantly in price.
  9. Thanks a lot Steve. There was a rock-a-way repress with a different flip that people originally didn't know was released in 1977 on the Cole label, as the Cole 45 is rarer than any of the original Rock-Way presses. The Cole 45 has the out of tune violins added on top of it. I own the Cole 45 but none of the original Rock-Way 45s. Thanks again.
  10. Thanks so much Simon, you rule!
  11. Again, I have the original Cole label '70s 45 they added an out of tune violin over the original track. It's the b-side of the record so they just did it to get a throwaway b-side. I'm only trying to find out about the original ROCK-WAY pressings. I read the threads Chalky linked and could only find the family's ramblings about bootlegs and some matrix details but (unless I missed it) could not find any info about two different '70s pressings on the Rock-Way label with different mixes. Jordi says there are two '70s rock-way presses with different mixes. Can anyone shed any light as to how the mixes are different and which mix has which matrix? Thank you.
  12. I have seen a reference to a second Joe Moore on Tru-Glo-Town 510, I ain't / I've got my sweet baby. It did later get released on Verve, which is not that rare, but I have never seen it on Tru-Glo-Town 510. Does anyone have a copy of these titles on Tru-Glo-Town? Thanks in advance for any help.
  13. anyone know if there are multiple mixes of the rock-way 45 from the '70s or can anyone point me to a previous thread that talks about it? I just have manship 5 and 6 which talk about differentiating presses, but not about mixes. Thanks again.
  14. I know that this has been discussed before several times but I can't find a thread with the info i'm looking for. I know there is more than one original '70s press of the Mixed Emotions Rock-Way 45. But are they different mixes or different in any way? If they are different mixes, how do you identify each of the original '70s Rock-Way presses and how are they different? I have manship guide 5 which identifies 2 different '70s presses with identification info but doesn't mention anything about mixes and from previous discussions there might even be 3 different presses? I already know about the totally separate cole release from the '70s, don't need info on that. Thanks for any help.
  15. styrene does crack easily
  16. I definitely know about the regular existence / numbers of the titles, the question is whether these numbers were also issued these other ways. I appreciate people looking though. How about a more general question -- did any arctic numbers (not just barbara mason) get issued different ways (actually different recordings, not slight title variations)? Thanks again for everybody's help.
  17. The one Plaids 45 has consecutive matrix numbers, which were reused on the other two. I'm pretty sure my theory is correct and the two records mentioned in my first post don't exist. But I'd love to be proven wrong if someone has a pic.
  18. Also, looking at the records, I think that McCline Larry-O 101 came out AFTER the Plaids one 45 on Jerry-O 103. If you look at the matrix info on the label of the McCline "You conquored me" side on Larry-O 101, it says 103 on it. I think the Plaids came out and they reused one side of it as a b-side of the Dukays on Jerry-O 105 (which was then reissued with another b-side) and the other side as a b-side of the McCline on Larry-O 101.
  19. I doubt the existence of two records and am looking to see if anyone here has them. Some discographies list this record: Larry-O 101 - Willie Logan and the Plaids - You Conquered Me / She Got Another Man The record WAS released as by Charles (Plookie) McCline on Larry-O 101, I'm looking for evidence of it being released as by Willie Logan and the plaids on Larry-O 101 also some discographies list this record: Jerry-O 101 - Charles McCline - You conquered me / Say that you care these titles were released as by Willie Logan and the Plaids on Jerry-O 103. I am looking for a picture / scan / evidence of it being released by Charles McCline on Jerry-O 101. There also already is a different Jerry-O 101 by Charles (Plookie) McCline. As it is, I think these two titles do not exist. Given the confusingness of the discographies of both groups, I'm looking for a scan / pic, not a "oh i think i've seen that!" Thanks for any help.
  20. the motown girls book described griffin as a gangster-ish dude and as a jackie wilson wannabe, like doing backflips on stage and stuff
  21. Robb, here is a Joker discography, a modified version of what's here. I also don't know 717. https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/joker.htm 711 - Ricardo King - This Is The Moment / At The Harlem Center 712 - Ricardo King - Won’t You Come On Home / On A Hot Summer Day In The Big City 713 - The Soul -Teasers - Two Lovers / On A Hot Summer Day In The City 714 - The Autographs - Love's Gonna Do You In / On A Hot Summer Day In The City (inst.) 715 - The Autographs - Do the Duck / The Duck (Instrumental) 716 - Connie Clark - My Sugar Baby / My Sugar Baby (Instrumental) 717 - ? 718 - The Autographs - We Gotta Go (Where The Action Is) / We Gotta Go (Instrumental) 719 - The Autographs - Sad Sad Feeling / Sad Sad Feeling (Instrumental)
  22. we gotta go is joker 718
  23. Here is the lineup. The backing group is mixed. Harriet Hurst, Rhoda Haller, Thomas McGee, Houston McGee. I still need "we gotta go" if someone has a copy, need the label #.
