  1. Keith (the guy I interviewed) is second from the left in the video, the guy singing lead is Dwight Dukes, he walks past Keith at one point. Don Cornelius polices youtube pretty well, the clip will probably be taken down soon (all soultrain vids get taken off quickly).

    Eddie Billups

I have another helpp single by eddie billups, by the way, but both sides are southern soul.
  4. you can tell me I don't understand northern soul and I have to be a part of it, that's fine. Maybe it represents working class Britain during the 70s. But please don't tell me that it had a "rhythm flow and lyrical interpretation that was synonymous with 60s Black America", relative to a sound I'm talking about that probably much more closely represented the sound of "60s Black America." There's a reason that northern soul tracks are the B-sides of the intended US A-sides, and a reason why the records are so rare and no one bought them in the US. This is my last post on the subject, don't want to get into a thing with someone on here about this, but I couldn't let such a ridiculous comment go unaddressed.
  5. I collect vocal harmony soul, many big northern records sound like total crap to me and devoid of "real song substance." "Baby don't you go" is one of my favorite records of all time, actually, along with the perfections on Tri-City "girl you better hurry".
  6. it's the prolifics
  7. not true, I keep losing VG to VG+ copies on ebay at about $200-$250. 10 copies on popsike means MANY MORE than 10 copies on ebay, as popsike does not index every auction.
  8. if anyone has a copy to sell at the more realistic prices quoted (e.g 300 pounds for mint, less for lesser condition) please pm me. Thanks.

    Eddie Billups

Eddie Billups and the Gigs have a fantastic mid-60s record on Maxx -- New York Kangaroo. It sounds like the larks "the jerk." Craig Moorer had some copies for $25, I recommend people buy them while they're still up.
  10. --> QUOTE(Geoff B @ Apr 6 2007, 01:29 PM) link Hi, Anyone got one of these for sale,Please.Missed one on ebay a couple of weeks ago, went for $405 (£205),would gladly pay this. Geoff. Terry Gesten, ebay user sendfor45s, had some quantity. try to message him through ebay.
  11. i have it on a blue issue, it's rarer on the white demo. I'd guess around $100 but might be higher. Known by funk collectors, actually, as it's a rap sample.
  12. they definitely were the same detroit group. it even talks about the ice cream song on the back of the black gold lp.
  13. Hi Paul. Scan of "you can make it side" is here: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=300095413570 I have the promo and can scan the other side for you if you need it, just PM me. Hopefully someone here already comes up with it, though. Thanks.
  14. I play it every week as the theme song to my radio show. Of course, my show IS on the south side of Chicago! FYI, this record came out with two label versions, the one with the artistic OLE script and just as block OLE print. I think the block one is rarer. No one seems to know what happened to Otis Brown, for example, I know a couple of his label mates from the Para-monts and they don't even know (one of the Para-monts, Rosemarie Rice, who has since passed, even dated Otis). If Otis is still alive, he's probably not in Chicago any more.
  15. just sold on ebay for $12.55
  16. that must be why the word "label" is consistently spelled as "lable" all over the cover of my 2nd edition guide.
  17. Thanks a lot. The thing is, the doowop guys were the original bootleggers and the record (esp. the envious side) also appeals to doowop collectors. Either way, it wouldn't exist in both forms ('world' and 'love') as a boot in the same way, so I'm convinced it's an original. Thanks everyone.
  18. thanks a lot
  19. I just got this white label Linda Griner 45 in the mail today. It looks sort of suspicious. The vinyl is very thick and there's a lot of space in the dead wax, and the inner groove is sort of tight in the deadwax area (it spirals around for about 5 times in the deadwax). There are some letters not stamped in the deadwax, and they are half covered up by the label: DMV-020101. The envious side has DMV-020100, and before that it says "nashville matrix" in script (I can't tell if it's a stamp or not, but it is in smaller letters). There might have been a nashville matrix marking on the cruel love side that was covered up by the label (since the dead wax markings appear to be covered up by the label). Also, the center hole is sort of suspicious, or at least there is a bunch of wear around it. Here is a photo. Manship's bootleg guide doesn't list anything, but I'm scared this was a US repro or something (given that motown is collectable in the US)? Anyone have any opinion about authenticity:
  20. I guess it could be an acetate, didn't think about it, I've never held it my hands. I DO know the guy that found the one copy in Chicago, though, I will try to ask him when I see him about it. I have to wait to see him because he doesn't even have a telephone, though!
  21. always been hard to find but inexpensive when it turns up record. FANTASTIC 45.
  22. never seen that mack simmons and i'm in chicago, that's hard. i have a pretty good random mack simmons 45 on biscayne, it has a northern sound.
  23. there are 2 chuck bernard records on the chicago new breed.
  24. the condors did come on sheldon. the flip is way better, "meet me halfway". Supposedly the jeanie and the gentlemen on limelight is the same release.
  25. It's pretty obvious when sellers have shill bidders, I've seen it happen, but it's not that common. It's much harder to tell now that ebay is hiding the bidder history, so I think it will become more common. However, I agree. No one here should ever bid on ebay, it's a horrible place and you'll just get ripped off.
