  1. the george jay record is really good, I think he was white or hispanic, though, it's on the Texas Dynamic label (same as commands). It's a midtempo group record, maybe from like 1967. There are a bunch of other george jay + rocking ravens records but the other ones aren't really soul records, they have more a "teen" / doowop sound.
  2. Bunny Paul had a lot of doowop records and another soul record (as Barbara Paul on Carla).
  3. You might want to try Mike Vegh, who is on here, I think I've seen him sell it before.

    Mp3 Wants

I have it on a CD somewhere, I will try to dig it out. I can make you the thelma lindsay version if you want, I have the record of that.
  5. thank you
  6. Here's a link to my annual best-of radio show, there are some northern tracks at the beginning of the show, but it's mostly sweet soul: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/4-15-2007.mp3 thanks, Bob
  7. that WAS it. I guess there must be more than one copy of the acetate floating around. Was this on a CD?
  8. it's funny, he sounds exactly like Jerry Butler in that soundclip.
  9. Hey Callum, there's at least 4 different Fred Martin Review 45s on ru-jac, I think you need to be more specific.
  10. --> QUOTE(Mike B @ Apr 14 2007, 05:16 PM) link I'm happy to bow to your superior knowledge, I know next to nothing about 70's stuff - just remember when I spoke to the label owner he said they had recorded a band called Sex - and they were deffo not based in NO - probably just co-incidence that it was the same name All the best Mike Actually I was hoping that you would say that you knew George and that he was still alive! Thanks.
  11. there are a couple good soul records on hull near the end of its run. The admirations on hull (not Chicag) has an awesome group soul side and an okay northern side. The simplicities on hull is a okay girl group record.
  12. my friend played me an unissued Eddie Holland motown acetate he had the other day, it was awesome, better than any of the released stuff I've heard. I'm trying to remember the title now.
  13. I think this record is awesome, don't know if it appeals to northern ears, though. Always been a $5-$10 record. THere is a soundfile on the.soulclub.org. Sort of reminds me of the notations "i'm still here"
  14. Cool Reissue! I've never talked to Jerline Shelton, but I've been told by people that knew her that their first recording was that Honey-Duo-Twins record on Yambo. I didn't notice a mention in your bio, just a note in case you didn't know it.
  15. that's the one I have.
  16. there's a record by willie small on jessica, i think it was deep soul, i have to pull it out and listen
  17. --> QUOTE(Mike B @ Apr 12 2007, 08:01 PM) link Nothing to do with the value but I think this was put out by the same guy who owned southern city records (paramount four / poodles ) I interviewed him around three years ago - he was really embarassed about the groups name lol. I must try and find his number and see whether he has any copies (being that its a modern tune I didn't ask him for a copy at the time ) ATB Mike I think this was put out by George Redman, who was originally in Chicago and had the Moneytown / Blue Light labels. He then went to New Orleans and also had a Moneytown label there (I think a couple funk records by a group called ManFaith on the label). He also did this record, his name's all over it. Not associated with the DC moneytown. I don't think he's the southern city guy, unless you're referring to another name on the record. I heard that George had passed, although I'd love to hear otherwise.

    Manship

Is Bobby James' name really Bobby James? I heard it was Bobby Newsome (of the Vontastics) under another name. Can you confirm that it is a different person? Thanks a lot.
  19. tommy payton is from Gary, IN has a couple rare records on harvest as little tommy. One is really good early soul / R+B, it's called "teenage lover" and is by "little tommy and the chantes". There's also an okay early 70s tommy payton on tangerine (that I've never seen with a flip). Don't know if it's the same guy for sure. But the harvest guy is the staff guy.
  20. I've only ever seen the yellow version, the orange version must be rarer. great track. I read somewhere that Bobby Sansom was actually a White artist that came to the bay area from England, and that Sly Stone discovered him somehow. Anyone know the details? I can't remember where I read that, I think on the internet somewhere.
  21. also, the seller only takes money orders, which makes it a pain for bidders and maybe took down his bids some.
  22. Robert Tanner was VG. You think the VG Robert Tanner should go higher than $1500? At least on popsike, cleaner copies went for $2000-$2500.
  23. eboney essence (it's spelled "eboney")
  24. no limit is on that mercury LP that Guess who's back in town is on
