  1. by "the book" you mean the new bootleg guide? When is it scheduled to come out? Thanks.
  2. Do you know if the material is available on a CD somewhere (either starlight starbright or the one you're talking about)? I'd like to get recordings to give to the group members. Thanks.
  3. i think it might even have been higher in Lew Stanley's last auction that ended a week ago
  4. what is the title of the unissued opals 45? They kept asking me if a song called "starlight starbright" was released, I said it wasn't, is that the title of the cut you're playing?
  5. Are you DJing your own wedding? That's sort of awesome. Is that common for northern people to do? ps. Chris, I think I met you a few months ago when you were in Chicago at a record show with Shifty.
  6. it doesn't sound like what I posted, both sides are more 70s sounding

  9. The crash record has a fantastic sweet soul side. Really really good track. The a-side is just funky soul, it's actually the ORIGINAL VERSION OF "things gonna be better tomorrow" later done by the Natural Four on Curtom. The songwriter (Eugene Phillips) said that Rich Tufo stole his song at Curtom and credited himself. I will try to post up the sweet side.
  10. Thanks a lot for the info. That tommy payton issue must be ultra-rare. I've seen the dorothy berry at least 3-4 times on ebay recently and actually found it in real life a couple of times (NEVER as an issue though). I think it must also be much rarer as an issue. Thanks a lot.
  11. Quantity didn't turn up. Sweet soul collecting is just sort of stupid, as it seems to go in phases of a few beginner collectors getting into it and getting out of it. The few people will drive up prices on stuff by bidding against each other. Longer term collectors will already have this title, as it's not that rare, and there aren't that many starting-off collectors. I'd guess now it's closer to $50-$100.
  12. There are a bunch of 70s tangerine records that come as promos and that are very hard to find as issues (for example, Neal Kimble). I'm wondering if they ALL came as issues in some form? Specifically, I've never seen dorothy berry or tommy payton as issues. Anyone seen these?
  13. this was high a few years ago, around $150-$200 with sweet soul collectors. But it's gone down some since, it's hard to put a price on it now. This is the same group as the answers on crash / scorpion by the way.
  14. The stuff that people are saying about BMI in this thread is interesting. I've never found incorrect information there or the confusing of names. Usually I've found totally useless or missing information in the database, but not two names confused. I thought that the listings are done for specific BMI user accounts, and that they don't just do it by name or arbitrarily combine names -- often I find the SAME name and listing duplicated several times, not combined. Can anyone point me to an obvious case in BMI where they've confused a few names to confirm that they do mess up the info? It would be good to know if they actually do have wrong information (as opposed to the usual just missing information). Thanks.
  15. the really good record on the label, in my opinion, is gene and the team beats "I wanna be your baby".
  16. They changed their name to the mystiques after they found out about the teako group (who were also from Chicago).
  17. I definitely don't think it's common, but I think it's the type of record (jukebox ripoff record) that random dealers that get it won't even bother putting it on ebay. I think if it was known to random US sellers as a valuable record you would start to see copies go through ebay.
  18. thanks. Here are the two anniversary shows I did the last two years: www.sittinginthepark.com/4-9-2006.mp3 www.sittinginthepark.com/4-15-2007.mp3
  19. High bid is still $650. I will take bids through tomorrow (Saturday). I think I will be out Saturday night UK time so I might be resolving the bids of people that PM me until Sunday (but I will definitely close this out on Sunday). You can PM me with offers or trades or email me at boba (at) panix.com
  20. this comes up on ebay fairly frequently, I don't remember seeing the $1000 one but do remember seeing a few sell $400-$500
  21. is the dorothy berry on the Chicago USA label? I've never seen it before.
  22. members of the group were later in raw umber on virginia, by the way, the other member was a drummer for the sons of slum later
  23. Current high bid still only $650. I got offered a couple records I would trade for although haven't heard back from the person. Will update tomorrow night (US time) with the status. Thanks.
  24. my only point was that whichever one was the first press, whatever was posted was pretty much just a theory, not "fact", as both explanations were sort of long and convoluted, and without the support of anyone actually involved (even if one ended up being a correct explanation). I've seen all sorts of crazy things happen with pressings and labels, so it's hard to know what actually happened just by speculating. Thanks again for the info on the brewtown 45s.
  25. I got a mint copy on ebay for $3 6 months ago. It was listed in soul but listed with the other a-side. No one else saw it. I've seen it for sale a few times in other contexts, don't think it is really 500 pounds rare.
