This doesn't really help, but this is the only female song I could think of with "yearning" in the hook and it's not this: sorry I couldn't be of more help, i'm sure someone will think of it.

So I always knew about Chuck Jackson's massive hit "I don't wanna cry" from 1961, which many people covered and which he has writing credits on. I just found out about Big Maybelle's version on Savoy from 1957. Not only is it the same song, it has the same backing track as Chuck Jackson. It also doesn't have Jackson as a writer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp-AJ895S8k Big Maybelle's version was reissued on Scepter after Jackson's hit and Jackson is credited as a writer. What is the deal with this? It's like some sort of R&B time travel conspiracy or something. Or is there a simpler explanation that I'm missing?

If it makes you feel better, almost nobody in the US knows about the baggy pants.

for ultra-rarities collectors can't be as picky. i don't think the price was super high. the only other copy i think i've seen was a manship auction, has it been on ebay before?
-
I don't believe this or the patrice holloway had only 6 pressed. One thing I think people never understand is that most records that got "into the wild" haven't survived. People think because there was some ultra rare record there must have been 50 pressed or something when in reality there was more likely 1000 pressed, a lot of the stock never distributed and discarded, and out of the 200-300 that got into people's hands, most were thrown away. The idea that there could be 6 records pressed, all of them getting into regular people's collections, and not have almost all of them thrown away is very unlikely.

Cornell Blakely On Mable Label (Rich Recordings) Any Infos?
boba replied to Rom1's topic in Look At Your Box
That mable press has to be late '70s or early '80s by the font and by the dating of when James Hendrix when to the Carolinas. -
no problem, i'm sorry if i came across as a jerk, wasn't trying to be

Unreleased Duke Turner On Spinning Top Label? Any Info?

Unreleased Duke Turner On Spinning Top Label? Any Info?
boba replied to Amsterdam Russ's topic in Look At Your Box
There is a 3rd release on the label. Duke redid a version of "sugar baby" in the '80s, a similar top label design but a little more '80s looking. I have a friend who told me he used to know Duke but I don't really remember any details. The '70s version of "sugar baby" was also reissued on Crajon, both came out in '74. -
Also, one more point -- it's unlikely that Cole kept the same stampers from the '70s and reused them in the '90s. If you've ever come across old stampers, they are metal and usually all bent up. You can make a new stamper from a mother plate but usually all that stuff stays at the pressing plant. I would think he would likely only reuse them within in a short period of time

I am *not* saying that there is only one '70s rock-way press. I don't know. All I am saying is that at the time of the thread, collectors in the thread only knew about the non-credited version from the '70s (they also didn't know about the German EMI version at that time or the Cole label press). I don't own any press except a '90s one and just don't know. I think I have seen a beat up version with arranger credits found "in the wild" on ebay, which would lend evidence of a '70s press with arranger credits.

hi steve, are you saying that there's a '70s press of "saturday night" by "limmie funk ltd"? And that it's related to Limmie and Family Cooking? Can you give more info? For the record, Limmie of Limmie and Family Cooking is the same person as Lemme B Goode on Mercury. -
try not to get so upset about things on internet message boards and have a sense of humor about yourself, whether or not you think the other person is funny. your post was funny.

Hi Chalky, I just read that thread twice. Cole says that the "non-bootleg" press (meaning the one from the '90s that he was selling to the open market) has engineer credits and everyone else is saying that 1975 originals don't. There's no acknowledgement by collectors of a '70s copy with engineer credits and Cole's (confusing) argument is that the only "non-bootlegs" (which I think he means '90s presses) have engineer credits. So it's not clear where '70s presses with engineer credits fit in.

Manship's book wasn't wrong about the deadwax details of either, just more explicit about one. I'm not sure how anyone would know whether the arranger credit or no arranger credit is first unless Mr. Cole specifically says which one was first, especially since the identical matrix gives no clues. Thanks everyone for helping to answer my question!

It's Soul Patrol "need of love" on highland. Although "various artists" did cut a lot of records
-
also, I'm sure all the songs are covers, although not every song was in the audio file to confirm: - ain't no big thing is a radiants cover - lucky ole sun is pretty much a traditional - sweet little girl is a manhattans cover - underdog is a sly cover as soulhawk mentioned - don't look back is probably a temptations cover - don't waste your time is a 5 stairsteps cover - no time for your is a commands cover - you that i need is probably a temptations cover

this is the record Robb mentioned, the label is Ava:

The discogs comment may have just been (incorrectly?) extrapolating info based on the Manship guide omitting the detail of the "backwards 3" for one of the descriptions. Manship probably had each copy in his hand at a different time, noted the info, but never had both in his hands at once to compare. He may have just left off the "e" info one of the times he was taking notes. Or they might be different, I don't know, but I think it's unlikely that whoever wrote the discogs comment had both copies to compare. He doesn't explicitly say that the other one *doesn't* look like a backwards three and they sound identical in all other ways. I'm going with the same plates theory for now, although I'd love to see a pic of the other press to confirm / deny.

This sounds like a White soul band from Ohio, most of those tracks are covers, this could have been a demo for shows. I don't see a Way Out connection and there was no released record by a Charades on Way Out. Robb, what is "choreo"? The New York group recorded for Okeh, Mercury, and MGM and included Cuba Gooding Sr. pre-Main Ingredient.
