  1. Supposedly the same guy, also the same guy as Sam and Kitty. The thing is, though, that Sam Chatmon is currently a big guy on the Steppers scene here in Chicago and people that know him told me it wasn't him. I still have never talked to him personally though.
  2. they were originals, some copies turned up. I don't understand why when some copies turn up people just assume it is a bootleg because of what it's "supposed" to sell for. like are they trying to protect the value of their 'real' originals that they paid $2000 for?
  3. It's a rare detroit sweet soul record, both sides are good (other side is called "nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream"). It's on a label called Gemini, but it's not related to the other Gemini labels.
  4. the only cool sounds track I like at all is "rag doll", but I've never heard the one side on pick-a-hit
  5. yeah, I assumed he must have been thinking of Bobby Miller
  6. this is LA, no dells or chicago connection
  7. I don't know if it is evidence or not, but the jean wells and the butlers only came out on RED ink I think. The red "laugh laugh laugh" is definitely rarer at least if not first. I think it is probably first given that the other one was only red (although again, it's still speculation).
  8. I only know about the 80s motown LP repress (and the original repress non-stool cover), are there others?
  9. "low value USD" is not a meaningful concept to people in the US when they are buying and selling in US currency. I can't imagine anyone selling anything on ebay and being like "man, I'm going to make up for our country's low value on our dollar now!" And if it did come into play, wouldn't it result in more dollars for the actual item being sold? I can't speak to people trying to recoup ebay or paypal fees with postage, though.
  10. The record doesn't turn up often but I usually see it $25-$50. Maybe if it was "known" it could be more. I lost a mint one (was trying to upgrade my VG copy) for $25 last time it was on ebay. I play the "he's my guy" side.
  11. I think you're talking about Roscoe Robinson? I thought it had a Jackie Wilson sort of sound (but obviously it's not Jackie Wilson).
  12. I have an original to trade somewhere. I also have an original of the perma-hit 45 (perma hit has messed up labels but a clean VG vinyl, have to pull out the other one to check the condition still). People can PM me if interested.
  13. The impressions would be like a holy grail interview for me, I'd love to do it eventually. Reggie Torian, who currently sings with the impressions and who sang with them in the early 70s (he also sang with the Enchanters on Golden Ear), lives in Chicago now but Sam and Fred don't. The coronadas is a cheap record, it also got released as by the classmates, same recording. You should be able to get it easily. Thanks.
  14. It's funny, I had talked to two of the members and they told me that they had an earlier record on a yellow label and gave the titles, but I never found it until recently. I lost contact with both members (I think one of the guys actually passed away since I talked to him and the other guy's wife changed his phone number the next day after I talked to him!). I think that the group has common members with Velvet on Perception / Lovelite but I'm not currently in contact with any of the guys to confirm. The flip of the southtown 45 is a nice ballad which I'll play in the future. Thanks.
  15. can't speak for northern people, but this is well known by sweet soul collectors
  16. Here is a current mp3 and playlist for my radio show (8-12-2007). If you're finding this for the first time, I've been posting all my other shows recently and you can find other ones by searching for my other posts. 17. manhattans 'what's it gonna be' on carnival a $2 record that a random seller sold a trashed copy with a washed off label for for $125 on ebay because people couldn't identify it
  18. it is a 'private press' in that it's a fake, recently made up label that has nothing to do with detroit
  19. It says it's the casino group too. It doesn't mention the playboy record, though, I think the playboy group is different (and it sounds like a Black group).
  20. monitors - share the blame
  21. I can't confirm, but I think it is the same carolinas group. I think there's a photo of the group in the "heyyy baby" book (which talks about the UA 45). I also think but am not sure that it is NOT the group on playboy or casino.
  22. I think that green label thing you just posted is a total bootleg (which is why it also has wrong credits). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  23. I'm think the radio city exists, it's a black label with I think silver text
  24. My friend Richard Murray (who some of the people here who occasionally go to Chicago might know) says that he sang on the southside chicago side, he's not a singer and said Otis just got a bunch of guys that were standing around to do the backup. Apparently there is a real group on the flip. No one I've talked to knows what happened to Otis (e.g. not other people I know who did stuff on Ole, not people who were involved with Expectmore / Lujuna, etc).
  25. Record does not turn up. There are 2 versions of the label also, one with the nice looking OLE logo and another with just block OLE print. The block OLE print one is much harder.
