  1. I don't know either, I've actually only ever seen it on J-V. Ra bra was owned by Gene Ammons, I think. Besides a bunch of Gene Ammons 45s, the only other record I know on the label is by the Allusions (Gary group who were also the Swinging Allusions).
  2. this came on the blue and white vee jay label and the older style black label. i have on the black label and the vinyl is fine on that (not for sale, just commenting). Obviously it also came out on Wee. Thanks.
  3. Does anyone have this record (the second reflection 45 on wand) or a soundclip of either side? Does it definitely exist? I'm interested in hearing it. Thanks.

Sean, are you saying that the Enchanted Five are the same group as the Ultimates on Br-roma? I've never heard of that. My friend found one of the members by accident, Donny Scales. Donny said that he was also in the Segments of Time on Sussex (and he has a really nice gospel soul record on gloryland) but he didn't mention the ultimates on Br-roma.
  6. I've seen it on ebay once, but I agree, it's very hard and I've never found one in Chicago.
  7. Thanks, I just noticed that the Big Top group members were in the soul harmony singles book. Are you guys totally sure that the congress group is the UK VIPs? I looked at allmusic.com and there is a CD called "the complete VIPs" that is 28 tracks and supposedly includes all their records from all labels. It doesn't include either congress side. Also, none of the names listed as the group members match the names on the record, which are Jay Darrow and a last name Gluck. Thanks.
  8. This is not funk brothers related at all. One side of the record vocal with girls backing. This group (which was a band with singers) was the same group from Ohio as Little Joe and the Moroccos and the Moroccos on Pork, etc. My friend talked to a member of the group (who has sinced passed) who told him that they recorded a couple of 'unreleased' cuts for motown and told my friend the titles that are on the rare, but actually released motown 45. It's been on ebay a few times in the past few years. I know someone who has one but wants $150 for it, I got mine cheap the last time it was on ebay.
  9. Does anyone have any information about this group -- where they are from, members, etc.? Also, I would like to know if anyone can actually confirm that the Congress group and Big Top group are the same. They are listed together in the soul harmony singles book and are from around the same time. But the big top group clearly has at least one woman singing and it doesn't sound like any women are on the VIP record. Also, the VIP record is more "white" sounding to me (still a nice cut). There are no common names across the VIP / Big Top records but that doesn't mean much because the Big Top records are all Baum/Kaye names so they don't have the names of any real group members. you pulled a fast one / flashback got play here in Chicago (and Honey and the Bees even covered "you pulled a fast one"). Thanks.
  10. no, I've seen the innersvisions a lot too, I would have to pull out the records to see which ones. I also have the wales wallace as Sir Wales Wallace and just Sir Wales
  11. I'm sure there is something else to do besides looking for records, I just wouldn't know what that is. I'd be the guy looking for records in Hawaii.
  12. what do you mean by the "two releases"? I have it pressed a few ways, and one way says "sir wales" and the other says "sir wales wallace". Are there actually two recordings? Thanks.
  13. Hey, I'm buying them back. Most collections in the US have been sold. Most remaining records are beat up common records people have in their basement in horrible condition. Most of the actual store stock was imported to the UK in the 70s and 80s. If I go to a flea market now, I'm lucky to see any 45s (even bad condition hits). In order to really find stuff, now you have to have a lot of contacts and connections. A lot of the remaining decent stuff will go through ebay anyways. I'm in Chicago, which is more picked over than other cities I think, though.
  14. nothing is easy to get ahold of in the states, all the records are in the UK now... I don't even understand why dealers still fly over to the US, or at least to Chicago.
  15. I would have upgraded my beat up copy at that price, holy sh*t that's cheap.
  16. I don't think it exists.
  17. All music guide must be wrong (as it frequently is), the group on chess is the VALENTINOS (not the Valentines) and it WAS Bobby Womack's group. The records were recorded in Chicago and some of Bobby's family is in Chicago.

I was first told that by Chris James of the Natural Four, who had a record on the label with his kids just as "the Family". Later my friend tried to license the Patrizia and Jimmy record for his kiddie soul comp -- he initially was going to have to go through the Pryor estate but found it was a totally independent production leased to the label so he was able to lease it from "Jimmy." It turned out that Jimmy was Jimmy Robins, too, the Chicago artist on Jerhart, and that he had gone to LA, so that was a strange Chicago connection that we didn't expect.

ALA records was actually owned by Richard Pryor
  20. don't know why 3 files show up. Also, I have an interview on my site if you want more background on the group. Thanks.
  21. I tried to use refosoul but it timed out for me twice. Here are two files: mill_street_depot___i_may_be_right_i_may_be_wrong___stang.mp3 mill_street_depot___you_won_t_support_me___stang.mp3 mill_street_depot___i_may_be_right_i_may_be_wrong___stang.mp3
  22. also, you know how the teacher's edition were all school teachers? Yesterday I got a call from someone who said he was one of the guy's students (Farnell was his music teacher and homeroom teacher) and he wanted me to put him in contact with him.
  23. all of that comes from Herb Kent, who invented all sorts of words. He's the person responsible for the word 'feznecky' (meaning a girl). I have a recording of a radio he did in the late 60s where he says throughout the show "feznecky is out! the new word is HAMMER!" I think it didn't catch on...
  24. Also, if anyone has a copy of the Lusters acetate that Henry talks about during the interview, please get in touch. I would like to get a recording to give to Henry and his cousins the Triplett Twins, who were in the group. Thanks.
  25. I just interviewed Henry Ford, of Henry Ford and the Gifts. It is an interesting interview -- Henry not only talks about working with Henry Ford and the Gifts in Chicago but has some interesting stories about going to the bay area with the Opportunity Knock Chorus and appearing on the Smothers Brothers TV show. Apparently Henry's band in the bay area had an unreleased record on the Boola Boola label. During the interview I also play an unreleased Henry Ford and the Gifts record. Check it out at the bottom of: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html thanks, Bob
