nice sweet soul on the flip -- to be my friend -- mainly known by japanese collectors. Usually goes for $200-$300. It's ohio by the way.
  2. are you sure? what records were on the pittsburgh label? I know that all the black circle titles listed above are the same label at least. Thanks.
  3. It likely a girl. Any evidence that it's actually Jackie Moore, though? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the info, my "decade" comment was about the RJ records which are like mid-80s, aren't they (aren't there 2 different 11th commandments on RJ)? I have the chess and fast track 45s, but not the RJ ones. Is the flip of the fast track any good? I only have it as a promo. Thanks.
  5. which Topics LP? The topics on Token have an LP and the mercury group have that TSG Lp
  6. The one that you have (which is a vocal / inst) is a totally different take and much rarer than the one that lotusland found (which is already rare). The one lotusland found has a better side though ("something's got to be wrong with my baby"). It sounds like both sides were recorded in a basement. The one you got is of better recording quality. Also, on all the copies I've seen of the one with both sides, the artist name is the "Dezilles" and on most copies the Z is crossed out and changed to a V. It's correct on your press.
  7. unfortunately, the price guide too often sets the value instead of reporting it
  8. What I tried to write was that the FADS recently (a few days ago actually) sold on ebay in VG++ (US) condition for $130. However, it very rarely comes up. I recently paid $250 for a copy after waiting a while for it to go through ebay (of course it came up right after I bought it). Manship had one on his site for a while for 300 pounds, don't know what happened to it. So there you have the whole spectrum of prices on it. It definitely does not come up often. I think $250 is a realistic price to sell it for (that is just my opinion of course). Thanks.

what's the tarpon demo? Is that a white label or does it just say DJ copy on it?
  10. I scanned it for you, it's spelled "Jacky" which is one of the reasons I assumed it was a boy:
  11. It's a kiddie (male) lead, I don't think it's the adult female singer Jackie Moore.
  12. moniques is a fairly common doowop / early soul record. Can't give you a good value but not expensive. I've seen the other title but don't know anything about it.

wasn't it a legitimately licensed record and not a "boot"? the people who did it are on here.
  14. Maurice Jackson was in the independents, I thought the version on the LP was just a rerelease of his record, is it a different version? Thanks.
  15. Just Maurice Jackson and later Leroy Hutson. The backing group on Lucky Fellow is the Contributors of Soul + Emmett Garner of the Trends. The female singers are Donny Hathaway's and Leroy Hutson's wives.
  16. especially the group name? haha. It's kind of hard to believe that Dick Clark's american bandstand played such random records that that record got on. (apparently it was in some "you rate new records" segment). It would be cool to somehow get footage of that (with people dancing to the record) or even other episodes to see what other crazy 45s that no one ever heard otherwise got broadcast on nationally syndicated american TV.
  17. They bootlegged ('reissued') releases on other labels. But they did one original release, which obviously wasn't a bootleg since it wasn't a bootleg of something that was released on another label. I obviously don't know if it was legitimately licensed, etc. but that's a whole separate point on original releases -- probably a large percentage of actual soul releases weren't legitimately licensed in the sense that the people responsible who should have been paid got ripped off and not paid.
  18. There are tons of cuts that have since only come out on recent reissue labels (e.g. grapevine), I think the thread would probably be best confined to older reissue labels from the 60s and 70s. Either way, this is a cool thread, I don't have anything to add as the ones I knew were mentioned already, and there were a couple mentioned that I didn't know. Actually, I just thought of a random one -- there is a bootleg label "red rocket" out of pittsburgh that bootlegged a bunch of chicago stuff (ideals, duvals, etc.) in the 60s. But there is one northern record on the label that only came out on that label -- the Stylers on red rocket. So I guess that's a legit release on a reissue label.
  19. Thanks again. One thing that I didn't announce during my show that people here might be interested in is that Mel Britt was actually a member of the Versatiles on Staff.
  20. the showtime inc is great, get it while it's still a $10 record.
  21. that invincibles record is fantastic sweet soul, the best version of that song. I recently bought a second copy at more than what you have it listed as just to have another copy. I played it on my anniversary radio show. someone should buy it.
  22. Today I interviewed the Puzzle People, who were East Chicago, IN hometown favorites and who cut a record on the ohio-based AMG label in 1977. Their record even got played once on American Bandstand but died due to a lack of promotion and distribution. The interview is at the bottom of my webpage: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html As a bonus, I also included the music part of the show this week. I saved it as a separate file so you could listen to the music or the interview independently. I started off the show with a focus on other Gary / East Chicago area groups. The show is available at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-21-2007.mp3 Here is the playlist from my show. Thanks. Veratiles - Lonely man - Staff Richard Brown - Sweet and kind - Steeltown Velts - I'm so weak - Sundown Lost weekend - The Bridge of love - Lost Weekend Realistics - You're my sweet chocolate drops - Brunswick The Impulse - Once in a lifetime - Score Presidents - I miss my baby - Deluxe Carol Chandler - Time hasn't changed you - Steel City Marlynns - The very next time - Daran Devotions - Can you explain it - Nation Dramatics - Fell for you - Volt Dynamics - We found love - Columbia JR Bailey - Love Love Love - Toy thanks, Bob
  23. This record is not out of pittsburg, this is the GARY, INDIANA steeltown run by Gordon Keith and that the Jackson Five were on. There were several labels called Steel Town -- the pittsburgh one had the del chontays and the cordells. There was also an ohio steel town that had errol gaye and the imaginations and the entertains.
