  1. what do you mean by the "two releases"? I have it pressed a few ways, and one way says "sir wales" and the other says "sir wales wallace". Are there actually two recordings? Thanks.
  2. Hey, I'm buying them back. Most collections in the US have been sold. Most remaining records are beat up common records people have in their basement in horrible condition. Most of the actual store stock was imported to the UK in the 70s and 80s. If I go to a flea market now, I'm lucky to see any 45s (even bad condition hits). In order to really find stuff, now you have to have a lot of contacts and connections. A lot of the remaining decent stuff will go through ebay anyways. I'm in Chicago, which is more picked over than other cities I think, though.
  3. nothing is easy to get ahold of in the states, all the records are in the UK now... I don't even understand why dealers still fly over to the US, or at least to Chicago.
  4. I would have upgraded my beat up copy at that price, holy sh*t that's cheap.
  5. I don't think it exists.
  6. All music guide must be wrong (as it frequently is), the group on chess is the VALENTINOS (not the Valentines) and it WAS Bobby Womack's group. The records were recorded in Chicago and some of Bobby's family is in Chicago.
  7. I was first told that by Chris James of the Natural Four, who had a record on the label with his kids just as "the Family". Later my friend tried to license the Patrizia and Jimmy record for his kiddie soul comp -- he initially was going to have to go through the Pryor estate but found it was a totally independent production leased to the label so he was able to lease it from "Jimmy." It turned out that Jimmy was Jimmy Robins, too, the Chicago artist on Jerhart, and that he had gone to LA, so that was a strange Chicago connection that we didn't expect.
  8. ALA records was actually owned by Richard Pryor
  9. don't know why 3 files show up. Also, I have an interview on my site if you want more background on the group. Thanks.
  10. I tried to use refosoul but it timed out for me twice. Here are two files: mill_street_depot___i_may_be_right_i_may_be_wrong___stang.mp3 mill_street_depot___you_won_t_support_me___stang.mp3 mill_street_depot___i_may_be_right_i_may_be_wrong___stang.mp3
  11. also, you know how the teacher's edition were all school teachers? Yesterday I got a call from someone who said he was one of the guy's students (Farnell was his music teacher and homeroom teacher) and he wanted me to put him in contact with him.
  12. all of that comes from Herb Kent, who invented all sorts of words. He's the person responsible for the word 'feznecky' (meaning a girl). I have a recording of a radio he did in the late 60s where he says throughout the show "feznecky is out! the new word is HAMMER!" I think it didn't catch on...
  13. Also, if anyone has a copy of the Lusters acetate that Henry talks about during the interview, please get in touch. I would like to get a recording to give to Henry and his cousins the Triplett Twins, who were in the group. Thanks.
  14. I just interviewed Henry Ford, of Henry Ford and the Gifts. It is an interesting interview -- Henry not only talks about working with Henry Ford and the Gifts in Chicago but has some interesting stories about going to the bay area with the Opportunity Knock Chorus and appearing on the Smothers Brothers TV show. Apparently Henry's band in the bay area had an unreleased record on the Boola Boola label. During the interview I also play an unreleased Henry Ford and the Gifts record. Check it out at the bottom of: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html thanks, Bob
  15. I keep losing this on ebay for $75-$150, it hasn't been up for a while though.
  16. thanks for the feedback. Tonight I'm interviewing Henry Ford (of Henry Ford and the Gifts). I never understood why there wasn't really northern interest in those records given that they are all uptempo. Anyways, if anyone wants to listen LIVE they can at www.whpk.org/stream. You could potentially call in and interact with the person I'm interviewing. It's not very good time for the UK, though, since it's 7:30PM Central Time.
  17. I interviewed the main guy behind the group. The group is actually the CODs, except with Stormy (of Twinight fame) replacing Larry Brownlee. He produced the record himself and first licensed it to international music bag and then Innovation II. My interview is at: www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html thanks, Bob
  18. You're right, I got mixed up about the singles. I sent a copy of this video on DVD to a woman who posts on one of the other message boards who was dating George Smith at the time. She said that the steps they're sitting on was George's apartment at the time and all the scenes are from right outside their house.
  19. I have a longer version of this video on a DVD (this one is missing some seconds of footage in parts) that is also better quality. But I don't know how to rip it and put it up on youtube. Random trivia about this 45: this is the last deluxe 45 they had and it came out right AFTER they signed to columbia and had released a columbia record.
  20. the manship guide doesn't really differentiate between groups that have the same name in most cases. They are definitely not the same group. The soul harmony singles book lists another Texas Valentines record on the King Bee label, I don't have the record to compare names with the SS7 though.
  21. I don't know about the mello souls, but the actual Chavis record labels all say Wilmington, Delaware on them.
  22. Apache 2005 - Ripples - Cowgirls to boys / Only time will tell I'm not sure, but I think either Rich Tufo or Floyd Smith or some combination of the two owned the label.
  23. sold quickly, thanks for the responses.
  24. I bought this record on ebay. The record was described as "VG" and it had a sound clip. I just got the record today, it's visually only G+ and has a tight diagonal edge crack that is not separated and is very hard to see (about 1.5cm, most people might not even notice it) and a small lip warp. I never keep cracked records. I hate cracked records. I emailed the seller and he said he would take it back but would not refund my shipping and denied it was cracked before he sent it (it clearly was not cracked in shipping) and said it played VG, which meant it was VG. Anyways, the record actually plays very well (very light crackle audible at the beginning of each side, then I can't hear noise). The warp does not cause any problems on my turntable tracking at 1.5 grams. There is some label wear. As long as I have to waste my time going to the post office to send this back, I thought I would offer this to someone who might actually want it instead of having to eat shipping and deal further with a sleazy seller. This is a nice play copy. This record is listed on JM's "rarest of the rare" if you want to hear it. I would need $40 + $5 shipping to Europe/UK, $2.50 to US if someone wants this, otherwise I'm taking the loss and sending it back to the seller. $40 is less than 20 UK pounds. PM me if interested. Paypal only. Thanks.
