  1. It's a kiddie (male) lead, I don't think it's the adult female singer Jackie Moore.
  2. moniques is a fairly common doowop / early soul record. Can't give you a good value but not expensive. I've seen the other title but don't know anything about it.

wasn't it a legitimately licensed record and not a "boot"? the people who did it are on here.
  4. Maurice Jackson was in the independents, I thought the version on the LP was just a rerelease of his record, is it a different version? Thanks.
  5. Just Maurice Jackson and later Leroy Hutson. The backing group on Lucky Fellow is the Contributors of Soul + Emmett Garner of the Trends. The female singers are Donny Hathaway's and Leroy Hutson's wives.
  6. especially the group name? haha. It's kind of hard to believe that Dick Clark's american bandstand played such random records that that record got on. (apparently it was in some "you rate new records" segment). It would be cool to somehow get footage of that (with people dancing to the record) or even other episodes to see what other crazy 45s that no one ever heard otherwise got broadcast on nationally syndicated american TV.
  7. They bootlegged ('reissued') releases on other labels. But they did one original release, which obviously wasn't a bootleg since it wasn't a bootleg of something that was released on another label. I obviously don't know if it was legitimately licensed, etc. but that's a whole separate point on original releases -- probably a large percentage of actual soul releases weren't legitimately licensed in the sense that the people responsible who should have been paid got ripped off and not paid.
  8. There are tons of cuts that have since only come out on recent reissue labels (e.g. grapevine), I think the thread would probably be best confined to older reissue labels from the 60s and 70s. Either way, this is a cool thread, I don't have anything to add as the ones I knew were mentioned already, and there were a couple mentioned that I didn't know. Actually, I just thought of a random one -- there is a bootleg label "red rocket" out of pittsburgh that bootlegged a bunch of chicago stuff (ideals, duvals, etc.) in the 60s. But there is one northern record on the label that only came out on that label -- the Stylers on red rocket. So I guess that's a legit release on a reissue label.
  9. Thanks again. One thing that I didn't announce during my show that people here might be interested in is that Mel Britt was actually a member of the Versatiles on Staff.
  10. the showtime inc is great, get it while it's still a $10 record.
  11. that invincibles record is fantastic sweet soul, the best version of that song. I recently bought a second copy at more than what you have it listed as just to have another copy. I played it on my anniversary radio show. someone should buy it.
  12. Today I interviewed the Puzzle People, who were East Chicago, IN hometown favorites and who cut a record on the ohio-based AMG label in 1977. Their record even got played once on American Bandstand but died due to a lack of promotion and distribution. The interview is at the bottom of my webpage: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html As a bonus, I also included the music part of the show this week. I saved it as a separate file so you could listen to the music or the interview independently. I started off the show with a focus on other Gary / East Chicago area groups. The show is available at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-21-2007.mp3 Here is the playlist from my show. Thanks. Veratiles - Lonely man - Staff Richard Brown - Sweet and kind - Steeltown Velts - I'm so weak - Sundown Lost weekend - The Bridge of love - Lost Weekend Realistics - You're my sweet chocolate drops - Brunswick The Impulse - Once in a lifetime - Score Presidents - I miss my baby - Deluxe Carol Chandler - Time hasn't changed you - Steel City Marlynns - The very next time - Daran Devotions - Can you explain it - Nation Dramatics - Fell for you - Volt Dynamics - We found love - Columbia JR Bailey - Love Love Love - Toy thanks, Bob
  13. This record is not out of pittsburg, this is the GARY, INDIANA steeltown run by Gordon Keith and that the Jackson Five were on. There were several labels called Steel Town -- the pittsburgh one had the del chontays and the cordells. There was also an ohio steel town that had errol gaye and the imaginations and the entertains.

    Few To Sale

the gloria and the relations is a fantastic deep / sweet soul side that doesn't turn up that often, someone should buy it
  15. This group was from Chicago and had a funk record on Love records. My friend was told that they were just Malcolm X College students.
  16. I like how people here have $30 45s listed for 400 pounds, yet someone has a decent soul record which might be findable for slightly less if you look very hard available for 10 pounds and they get an "are you joking" public message.
  17. Do you know if the chess group is the same group? It is like a decade or more earlier. The chess group is from DC, by the way. That fast track 45 isn't that hard to find, but it's hard to find with the b-side, I still don't have it with the flip.
  18. I would sell it outright if I actually had an extra copy, but this is actually in my collection. I don't like the "gone with the wind" side (do like the rita and tiaras) and have it for the flip. It has sort of a weak group, so it's sort of borderline for me, which is the only reason I'd even consider pulling out of my collection. Usually I won't even pull out records I hate, except I would trade this one for something I really wanted ...
  19. Sean, I have a copy I'll trade you if you have a group record I need
  20. I don't have IE7, I still use IE6. It must be the flash version. IE7 might have upgraded your flash or something.
  21. The Edettes is Cincinatti, it's on the obscure Ohio jewel label and not the louisiana label. The side I played has an early transitional doowop / soul sound but it's late 60s because the other side is girl group funk. Jewel was a custom label, as far as I know, so I don't know if there is any connection between anything on the label. There is that fabulous originals record, which is a well known funk 45, and there is a killer holy grail sweet soul title on the label by the four corners. Sorry I don't know more about the actual group the Edettes. Thanks.
  22. It has some new custom player applet that can store a 'playlist' of multiple tracks that you can switch between and that displays what is currently playing. I think it's cool because I always click on something, keep scrolling through stuff, forget what I played while it's playing, and then have to figure out what I clicked on.
  23. trip is a reissue label, worth almost nothing on that label. Original is on veejay, maybe a $10 record? It's an answer record to mary wells.
  24. I think think about me is later, around '74 or '75. I agree that that one is very good. I also like "got to have all your loving" on ronze and "keeps the doctor away" on phillips.
