  1. more specifically, the backup was 2 of the majors plus wayne readus, of the original breed / people's choice...
  2. I doubt that it was recorded for star-vue, just because the group had pretty much broken up by the star-vue "oh baby" 45. If you listen to the oh baby 45, it actually has the vows / major iv on it as the harmony backup (listen to it, it's older guys). The magic touch 45 was a reformed version of the group.

the other side of the will chapron is great sweet soul. I have a M- checkmates in the polydor label sleeve, pm me with an offer or a sweet soul / group soul record trade if interested. Thanks.
  4. I've seen it on ebay a couple of times, it was on a plain red version of the label without the nice label art or logo. i didn't write down the info but can get it from someone who has the record if you need me to try to get the info. It wasn't good either, sort of random funky soul. I see the brighter side of darkness record "he made you mine" is the a-side of the magic touch 45. Sean, are you saying that it did come out on star-vue with a part 2 on the flip, or was that a mistake? Thanks.
  5. What is "he made you mine"? There is a johnny thompson record on the label.
  6. Does anyone know anything about this totally random group on the Malaco label? They sound sort of kiddie and they aren't even listed in the soul harmony singles book. I just got 2 45s by them in the mail, one of the sides was okay -- "it's nice to be in love." Did they have more than 2 45s? These two are from 1974 I think. Thanks.
  7. I really need shirley and the squires on constellation if anyone has a copy to sell. Even if not to sell, I need a recording for a member of the group. Thanks.
  8. that font really doesn't look right for a 60s chicago press. just my opinion.
  9. Yeah, it doesn't have the same backing as main squeeze. I have an acetate of the track I got from the producer Stormy (same guy as on Twinight) but haven't found an original. Probably all the stock is in the UK. Even the first star-vue one is hard to find (and great), I think people should pick that one up from the little bit of stock that is floating around before it dries up. El Anthony was a member of the Passions on Tower, from Gary, IN., they changed their name to the New Day when he left and was replaced. The backing girls on the record are the lovelites. The first lacindy title by el anthony turns up in chicago but I've also never found the second lacindy title. Dante says he had the second star-vue title once.
  10. Isn't 'go now' her hit record from the 60s on Tiger and not related to this mid-70s canadian record? I never knew Jaheim was related to hoagy lands though, interesting, I have to google it now.
  11. it's jamaican, right, the singer and the label? I have it on some US issue from the 80s I think, I forget the name of the label but run by Jamaicans in NY I think.
  12. Hey Alan, I would appreciate a response to my pms if you get a chance. Thanks a lot.
  13. The other label is LK, it's a north side Chicago label
  14. I have a sort of rough (maybe VG-? I have to pull it out to look at it) mainstream copy to trade. it plays great. Looking for group nothern or sweet soul trades. Thanks.
  15. I think it did come out on a US jukebox EP actually, Robb K posted a scan of it on soulfuldetroit recently, Lew Stanley had it for auction a while back and I think someone has (or had recently) it on gemm. Some of those unreleased artistics cuts were on ebay maybe a year or two ago as 10" acetates, one went for like a grand I think.
  16. Yeah, the cheers are from altgeld gardens (housing just south of Chicago), which is where the emotions, lovelites, dynamic heartbeats / wasters, ralph johnson, debonairs on ping, and a bunch of other groups are from. I have the number of one of them, I haven't called it yet but I'll do an interview eventually. Those two modern records by Yohon on Mary Carol are by one of the cheers. I'd love to eventually hear those unreleased cheers cuts on okeh, I hope they come out on something someday. Thanks.

it's the same record. the group is from the morgan park neighborhood of chicago, a couple members went on to be Raw Umber on Virginia and one of the members was later a drummer for the sons of slum.
  18. Thanks for the info. Tony, do you know if the 2nd cheers 45 exists as a recordings somewhere? Thanks.
  19. also, if these two titles don't exist, they must be known because of okeh catalogs or records? if so, why are some of the other numbers unknown? Thanks.
  20. I know people on here will know this, since I'm sure people tried to run this label. I'm pretty sure the following two titles don't exist: 7200 - Major Lance - Think Nothing About It / Its Alright 7338 - Cheers - Can't Let You Do It / I'm Glad I Waited Are there any other soul titles on the label where catalog number / artist / title is known but the record was not actually issued? Thanks.
  21. damnit, one more chicago group, I was hoping they were not from Chicago so I wouldn't have to try to find them.
  22. no, the private stock group is a white group that isn't connected. they have a second record on now. I have it but it never ever comes up for sale.
  23. Pete: can you post a tracklist for the oncoming times? Does anyone know anything about this group? Thanks.
  24. yeah, this isn't too hard. Their second record is extremely hard to find though.
  25. Rod probably paid 100 pounds for michael the lover
