  1. Their other gamble record 'mink and sable mable' is actually very hard to find and is a very nice early 70s uptempo cut.
  2. The fake question is pretty amusing, but to someone who has absolutely no idea about the market (e.g. he doesn't even seem to know that, for example, that buyers are interested in 'soul music' rather than 'promos'), I can't imagine how he would have any other way to conceptualize what people might want except that they are 'sleepers'. He probably did sell a record for a lot (although maybe not for $3000) and it just blew his mind.
  3. I know about this group (Strutt)'s brunwick LP. However, I was looking at a japanese want list on the web which was all 45s and there were two random 'strutt' things. Does this group have any 45s? If not, do they have some other LPs? Thanks.
  4. Is the seller on here? I don't understand how any US seller could say stuff like that. Personally I could only tell you what spins are massive in my apartment, it's amusing for me to read the DJ threads here but I would never have the balls to use that info in an auction without really knowing anything about it.
  5. I would be surprised about boots also. Who in the US would bootleg it and if they did, wouldn't they have started appearing? who presses a run of records just to sit in them and try to pawn them off onto british people when they come into town? Doesn't seem very profitable. Also, it would be a strange choice of a record to bootleg
  6. what's up Karl, I saw you downtown on Wells when I was driving to work a few weeks ago, I was already super late (it was like 9:30am) so I assume you were late too...
  7. by 'sampling' the delfonics, are you talking about him just rapping over the entire original song 'la la la la la la means I love you' without editing it at all? funny, but not sampling.
  8. I don't know the 'my salvation' track, but I will tell you that there's more than one Robert Thomas. The two I know are the guy from Chicago, who is also Bobby Thomas, who recorded for Hawk and Big City and who was a member of Channel 3 and the Notations. There is also an atlanta Robert Thomas, who recorded records on lyndell among others. I don't know if there might be another from the texas area, which is where Soft is from. Thanks.

  10. it's actually a boot for the jamaican scene (at least the one I know), the label is slightly whiter and the font crisper than the regular press
  11. Hi Rod. I think Brad is sometimes slow to respond to email and sometimes tours out of town with his band. I had bought that louis curry he posted up here when he posted here and got it quickly. He's very honest, though, I'm sure he'll refund your money if he did send it and you didn't get it.
  12. there is a picture of the (White) guys today from a reunion show they did on dcsoulrecordings.com
  13. That's the seller who was selling 45s for the Gary, IN seller that ripped someone off on here on the seven souls. That seven souls they just sold is the same one that someone on here paid for already like a couple of years ago and never received (I forget the user now).
  14. 'watch your step' was a big hit in Chicago. I have an unreleased acetate of Channel 3 doing "the lively ones".
  15. "my balloon's going up" is one of the few Archie Bell records besides "tighten up" that got a lot of play and that people remember in the US, people call and request it on my radio show. It would be funny if it became valuable. A caller once told me that the LP version is different but I never actually played them back to back to compare.
  16. There's a charmers record on louis (same group as on laurie and pip)
  17. you just posted a link to the "items I'm selling page" on my ebay, which will reveal what anyone who logs on is selling, and not what you are selling. Just FYI.
  18. Gene Barge produced it (hence the Chess sound), he told me he did it because he owed a favor to someone at atlantic.
  19. I still want to know about the del-tours from last time.
  20. I think all the down to earth records were imported to the UK because I have rarely found it on golden gate in the US but never found it on down to earth. Of course this is entirely possible because all the lamar / down to earth stock ended up in one place that was easy to pull out and export from the US. The record was produced by Burgess Gardner and Down to Earth was Burgess and Walter's label. I don't know which one was first either.
  21. also, I'll trade for a random sweet soul 45 if you have one I need. Thanks.
  22. I can give up my copy if you want since I don't collect Lps anymore. The right edge has water staining about an inch into the cover though, which is ugly. The cover is not that bad otherwise and the seams aren't split. The vinyl is maybe VG, shiny with some scuffing. If this is worth anything to you, pm me with an offer. Thanks.
  23. They only had one single. It charted nationally in the US. The were a girl group produced by the Jackson Five. There used to a soul train clip on youtube which still might be there if you look.
  24. I saw that post in another thread... but it's not clear whether it was sitting there on a buy it now or whether he convinced the seller to end it early with a 'buy it now'...
  25. too much xmas booze... actually i just got home from work, just too little sleep I guess
