  1. Hi. I just got this edward st. ann cut in the mail and played it. I knew it immediately because I know I have a version of it by a girl group. I can't think of who the group is. Obviously it's probably from new orleans and I remember the girls have sort of deep voices. Can anyone tell me what the other version is? Thanks.
  2. I've seen this on ebay more than once in the last three years. I did get the hard astors on stax from that dutch guy, which is a much harder stax title... anyways, it looks like Tim Brown has one on Gemm for $17.25: https://www1.gemm.com/c/search.pl?lang=%2Fc...cheryll+and+pam
  3. I'm guessing the yum yums was first because it is abc-paramount 10697 and the sapphires is 10753. Both groups are philly. The yum yums became honey and the bees on arctic / josie, etc.
  4. this is hard to find but still not worth much, I agree with the current assessment of 20 to 40 pounds but think it might go up if it became known, as it's a great record. No connection to the detroit group. The guitarist from the kaldirons told me he previously played with a 'dynamics' and I'm guessing it's that group, but he didn't remember any of their names.
  5. This record is not listed in the soul harmony singles book, and it SHOULDN'T BE because there is no harmony on it, it's one guy singing.
  6. I need this on boo (have this on criss cross, never bothered to pick it up on the other label before), someone PM me if they have one to sell on boo. Thanks.
  7. I agree with garethx, LP collectors pay a premium for sealed copies, esp. of a good album like that which is non common (maybe not ultra-rare, just not ultra-common either). Didn't a sealed copy of 'what's going on' sell for some ridiculous price on ebay recently?
  8. I've never seen it on a dark red label like you just posted, it's usually pinkish
  9. federal records from the 50s were famous for having a long bio written up on their promos
  10. Thanks for the info. I will let you know if I see a photo anywhere.
  11. Here is a rare promo photo with Reggie, Sam, and Fred, before Ralph Johnson joined. p.s. listen to the interview, it's actually very interesting.
  12. gee, i wonder where all this info about the chicago group came from??
  13. a white label boot of #1 with Oki DOES exist, there was a thread about this maybe a year ago, I ended up getting burned buying a bootleg on ebay. There are scans and info in the thread, I don't know if you can find it via searching.
  14. I might not be remembering correctly, but I think the johnny and jake has a different flip on Mod than on Phillips? Either way, it's interesting to know that it was a subsidiary of phillips, I never knew that even though I've found both records. I always thought it looked like a bootleg or something but never understood why they would boot johnny and jake.
  15. I'm sure he's still carrying around the same wad of $5000 that he flashes to people that he had in the early 90s.
  16. It's Marc Nameth from Pittsburg. He probably stabbed an old lady in the eye to get that record.
  17. that seller is a total sleazebag though, at least he got screwed. if you knew that guy in real life you would hate him too. Everyone hates that guy.
  18. Hey Dave, I don't have a photo, but now that you are in contact with her, can you clarify whether the sussex group really is the same group as "sandy and the pebbles" on mercury? They sound very different and there aren't common names on the records. Thanks.
  19. Hi. Today on my radio show I did a very interesting interview with Reginald Torian. Reginald started out in R&B with the Enchanters, who were from the south suburb of Chicago Heights. The Enchanters became the house group at the High Chapparal and in 1972 ended up cutting a record "Fool Like Me" b/w "Let There Be Love", which got some radio play in Chicago. Legendary Chicago band Boscoe backed the Enchanters on their live shows and on their recording. Reginald ended up auditioning for the Impressions in 1972, becoming the replacement for Leroy Hutson (who was Curtis Mayfield's hand-picked replacement for himself). Reginald stayed in the group through the early 80s and rejoined Sam Gooden and Fred Cash in 2006 to make up the current lineup of the Impressions. In the interview Reginald gives interesting details about the Impressions' 70s recordings (for example, "Finally Got Myself Together" was recorded live in a single take in the same LA studio with the same musicians who worked on Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On"). Reginald also describes the never-before-told story of what was happening behind the scenes of the Impressions in the 70s (for example, Peabo Bryson was almost a member of the group). You can check out my interview at the bottom of: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html Thanks for your interest. Thanks, Bob
  20. I agree that there is maybe or even probably a connection given that they are detroit groups with the same name, but I would want more evidence besides the fact that the labels look similar (via one of the label designs) before saying so. Isn't there also like a 5 year difference between the groups? Did you talk to that Leroy that you said was the lead of the alrite group? I'm very interested in finding out more evidence about this. Thanks for the info and the pic -- is the pic of the allrite group / lineup? Thanks.
  21. I just noticed in the soul harmony singles book there is an Endeavors "suffering with my heart" listed in J&S 254. It doesn't even have the flip listed, must be rare. I don't know if you know this title already, I don't have it.
  22. Hi Andy. I want to confirm that the bonnie / alrite group are definitely the same. Doesn't the alrite record have no group harmony on it (maybe I'm mistaken), which would make it unlikely? what is the source of this, did you talk to a group member? Thanks a lot.
  23. I have the following records in my trade box if you or someone else has good sweet soul trades. The chocolate sunday and four corners and delvons are especially rare 45s by the way. > 20.mike & the censations-shopping for love (revue) > 44.four corners-(jewel) > 96.vels-without you (hue) > 161.soft touch-look up,look down(century) > 198.three jades-show me your way(maurci) > 201.ultimations-would i do it over(mar-v-lus) > 258.chocolate Sunday-second story man ( ? ) > 272.unlimited four-somebody help please (chanson) > 277.us-(westbound) > 283.sly,slick & the wicked-sho'nuff(people) > 303.delvons-girls get ready(here we come)(pato) > 308.larks-your answer came to late(money)
  24. yeah, I also like the 'try it once again'. The rock n' company version of 'you live only once' is better than the changing tymes because of the arpeggiated synth that they are using, it makes it sound much more exciting for some reason. I'm still looking for the destiny 45 on AMG if someone has a copy to sell. Thanks.
  25. Here is the first press of the one side of the 45 on their label. The flip of this is "love love love" for me. This is even rarer, most of the run was actually destroyed.
