  1. Not just jamaican collectors but US soul collectors have been after this too, I know people in Chicago who bought this in the 70s. This got no play in Chicago when it came out but actually is known as a 'steppers' cut now. It is interesting that it has an instrumental flip, though, usually those bootlegs would also include something of interest on the b-side.
  2. the font looks like other random 80s la bootleg / sweet soul labels I've seen, I doubt it's the original release. What is on the flip of it, most of those bootlegs included a different group's songs on the b-side? That would help clarify. Thanks.
  3. i think it has to be a bootleg reissue label
  4. I don't think it's the same label. I think this label is from Florida. At least the mystic five is a florida group, I'm not sure about the origin of LJ Waiters. I can't add numbers, though, and it looks like you already looked through recordsbymail.
  5. Hi. Today on my radio show I interviewed Randolph Murph of the Brighter Side of Darkness. The Brighter Side of Darkness was formed on the South Side of Chicago when three Calumet High School students, Randolph Murph, Larry Washington, and Ralph Eskridge met up with 8th grader Darryl Lamont. They recorded and released their huge hit "Love Jones" on 20th Century records less than a year after forming. Randolph Murph was one of the writers of "Love Jones", did the famous monologue on the record, and sang lead on the flip side "I'm the guy". The group broke up for a period in the 70s due to management disputes, reforming to cut one final single for the Magic Touch label in 1978 before finally disbanding. You can check out the interview at the bottom of my webpage: https://www.sittinginthepark.co m/interviews.html Thanks, Bob

both are much cheaper than the fairmont, the atco goes for like $15. You need an issue to get the 'cool love' side, though, I think at least some of the promos are single-sided so be careful.
  10. I'm an idiot, it's the fashionettes on warren, not fabulettes. It's new orleans, though. Sorry for the confusion. At least pete got bumped. Thanks.

I don't know about the drifters connecton. It was "I still love you" that I was talking about. The 4 records mentioned in this thread (fairmount, d'or, smash, atco) are definitely the same guy, though, they are all johnny brantley, george kerr, etc. related records and there are common names across the records. I don't know if the drifters guy is the same and I have a raymond lewis on instant so there might be more than one ray lewis singing. Thanks.

it's the same ray lewis, the really good one in my opinion is "cool love" on atco, it's a great cut. he also has a record on smash that is a good deep ballad (but with no group on it).
  13. other people can answer the blue notes, the informations isn't that hard, goes on ebay for like $15, so I would say maybe 20 pounds. Great sweet soul side on the other side.
  14. fabulettes on warren is new orleans (NOT the florida group). Mode is new orleans. YOu don't thunk it's connected?
  15. the group didn't mention this to me but my friend previously told me that stones throw licensed the track from them so this might actually be legit, as in they got paid. I will try to find out more details.
  16. Are you saying that there's a fabulettes on mode? It must be the same group as on Warren. Do you have an audio clip of the fabulettes on mode? Thanks.
  17. I am totally ignorant about this music but I tried to listen and everything sounded way sped up, like to chipmunk levels. Is this intentional on your end? It wasn't just for some of the songs, so I thought maybe it was a technical problem? Thanks.
  18. it's not bootlegging to play it off a cd downloaded from myspace but it is if you cut a 45?
  19. it's arthur prysock 'teach me'
  20. I used to have a bunch of copies of the joe anderson that were mispressed and played nazereth's "love hurts". hilarious at first play but sad in the end...
  21. thanks for the plug mel

  23. it's the san francisco TKOs, not GTOs. Either way, this is a new release so don't let yourself get burned on this, some people were gouging on prices...
  24. he currently sings with a temptations revue in vegas. He was really a recording member of the impressions throughout their cotillion period, though, he replaced Ralph Johnson who formed Mystique.
  25. they still don't seem to be worth anything on ebay, despite being hard to find (and a nice cut, it reuses a whispers backing, right)? I would say $25-$40.
