  1. I actually need the johnny mckinney for johnny mckinney (it is the magnetics guy's second record, his first record was on mad) if you get it chalky. I have the new silhouettes, I will record it for you but it will take like a day before I get time. Thanks.
  2. "ghosts" is not very good. Also, I have a weird unknown pre-trudel 45 by them on a label called HED, it's almost straight doowop, but definitely the same group (willie hutch on writing).
  3. yeah, but I didn't miss it

  5. I always wondered if Frankie Beverly knew about or cared about the popularity of his early recordings with the rare soul collectors / northern soul scene. Most people I've talked to like him who had much bigger hits later and who still are successful due to their later hits don't think much about their early material. My friend saw maze last weekend and said they were great -- has Frankie Beverly ever done a northern thing in the UK?
  6. thanks, it was a promo without the flip, it was just "I'm the rock". Thanks.
  7. it's a reissue not a bootleg. doesn't matter now anyways.
  8. Hi Phil. This isn't the same seller (or at least the same user id on ebay) as you're referring to, the delites guy is that red-top guy. This guy's ID is doowopdepot. They are both in Philly though. Are you sure they're the same person?
  9. no common names on that 45 scan either. thanks.
  10. I've only ever found the record as "I'm the rock". At least i know the title of the flip now, thanks a lot. I don't know anything about the epic records, but the polydor group is the same grop as on soozi and chila. It is the same group as high society on USA. They actually evolved out of the green berets on UNI. It's proably not connected to the epic group if the epic records are from 1970 because they were still the green berets back then. Thanks.
  11. Does anyone here own the velvet hammer on polydor as an ISSUE COPY with a different song on the flip? It probably exists but is hard to find like most 70s polydor issues. I'm assuming it's not like a monster record because it would be known. If someone has it, can someone tell me what the flip is? I would also be interested in a recording to give to a group member (I only have it as a single sided promo). THanks.
  12. I don't think they had the power sign at the time of Jessie Owens, and I'm pretty sure he did not make the power sign when he won. What was significant was that Jessie Owens DID win at the hitler-sponsored games. During the roe-o-tation interview I did, one of the members said that they dropped out of the 1968 olympic track team to stay with the group. He could possibly have been part of one of the most important civil rights images of the 20th century!
  13. I'm guessing I would win this contest given the amount of random crap I buy on ebay, gemm, other people's lists, etc. I'm not going to give a number, all I have to say is the neighbors in my condo think I'm very strange...
  14. I might have a copy in my trade box, I will look.
  15. Eli actually used to do the radio show right after mine, I was on from 7-8 and he was on from 8-9.
  16. I'm pretty sure it was not the same copy being resold, the first copy was even more trashed and went for like $4400 to one of the new york collectors that is on here, if I remember correctly
  17. I don't think they were remixed with disco backing, I think there was just new bass added to it (which does take away from it). I think the engineer who did it is this guy John Greek, who is that guy selling the last remaining dore stock on ebay and who puts pictures of women in bikinis instead of the actual records.
  18. So Eli, is that you promoting yourself in the 3rd person, but with your username still set as "ThePaperboy"?
  19. Dante's webpage says cleveland: https://www.ohiosoulrecordings.com/s.htm I see it says "jeree" even on his label scan so maybe he's wrong, I will ask him what he knows about that. Thanks.
  20. Lonely man isn't the exactly the same backing track I don't think, I would have to dig them out to check. Mel Britt wasn't exactly Gary, I think he was originally from Anderson, IN, and also lived in East Chicago and surrounding areas. I think the Versatiles were based in East Chicago. He lives in Michigan City now. FIPi was also south chicago and had Gary connections, Gorden Keith told me he worked for the label for a while.
  21. I have the mellotones but not for sale. I can post a sound clip here if you want. "Lonely man" was done by 3 gary groups: the versatiles on staff (which included Mel Britt), the Mellotones, and the Fabulous Traits (no connection to the Chicago traits). The del chontays was on Dennis Brennan's harrisburg CD, he can confirm for you that it's a PA steeltown (I think the same label that had the cordells).
  22. THe kenneth and delroy is not that hard, it also got mispressed as kenneth and delory (ro's reversed). Maybe that was also in the variation you were talking about. I was talking about the valiants 45, I don't know if that exists on steeltown.
  23. that's not the same steeltown label Dave was asking about, it is cleveland as you note and there's two records on that label. there were a bunch of steeltown labels.
  24. I've never seen that, it would be cool to know if it existed. The Valiants on Destination is a Gary group, it included Delroy Bridgeman, who was previously in the Senators on Abner, the Mellotones on Steeltown, Kenneth and Delroy on Steeltown, and the World Column on Tower / Atco.
