  1. It is the twinight Stormy, he talks about everything in the interview on my webpage. He also wrote 'psychedelic soul' for saxie russell, wrote the gregory washington 45 on brainstorm, and produced el anthony on star-vue.
  2. the jackson 5 are awesome
  3. OK, I posted audio of both the CODs 45 and Tommy Brown on Copherbox II. The CODs 45 credits T. Brown in writing. Both sound similar but it's not like I can tell one way or the other. The CODs record does sound like only one singer with an overdub at spots, not two guys. The Copherbox II guy is definitely Liz Lands husband Tommy Brown, the "I ain't lying" comedian, according to the producer Willie Woods. Steve, can you tell me your source for saying it's a Tommy Brown singing on the CODs 45? If so, is it the same Tommy Brown? Do you know the story about how he ended up recording as the CODs? Did the CODs become the band or something?
  4. aren't there two US pressings of this with one being a slightly alternate version? Not really related to different countries' pressings? Or am I confused?
  5. Thanks, what are you getting this info from? I have the magic touch 45 and don't remember it saying Tommy Brown. Does it say it on the label or do you have some other source? Which Tommy Brown, the Liz Lands husband Tommy Brown or someone else? I can't hear more than two voices on it and there might even be just 1 voice.
  6. Yes, I'm not 100% sure as two of the 3 are dead and the remaining guy is sort of lost and hard two find, but I'm pretty sure that the CODs on Magic Touch are just the two members Carl Washington and Robert Lewis that were in the Lost Family (stormy is not on that). If you listen to the record it also sounds just like 2 guys singing.
  7. At least watch until about 6 minutes in when he starts to demonstrate the dances:
  8. Thanks for the info about the deon jackson doing 'you got the power'. It was funny because in another thread someone said that it was the falcons in the same session as the firestones on karen (which sounds nothing like the other falcons tracks) and now that story even makes less sense. Did sonny hear the doll face 45 and remember it? If doll face is the alias of the female singer (e.g. not a group name), is it possible that the falcons do backup on the record? The falcons have pretty distinctive harmony, does it sound like them at all on the record? Thanks.
  9. I actually sent an angry email to cdbaby the last time I ordered from them just expecting to not get a response and they actually sent me a polite response offering a replacement. I think they will potentially replace it. I don't know why a different CD would play any better if it was pressed at the same time though. It took them like a month to mail something to me but only 3 weeks to send me an automated message asking if I enjoyed the CD they sent me. weak.
  10. we already had a discussion of that particular seller in another thread about how he slipped in shrine repro into a lot of random 45s and included it in the photo (where you couldn't see the center hole) of a bunch of records to try to make buyers thing they were getting over on an unknowledgable seller. I can't comment on the price guide, but I don't understand why someone would buy that except as a doowop guide, it's not like you would get more accurate northern prices from it or that it would include anything that wasn't in the bigger northern guides. The osborne guide at least has a lot of titles in it so it's possible something would be listed there that's not in manship or tim brown, but I can't imagine that that new guide would have anything.
  11. Hi Mel. What is the CD with early lenny williams? I'd like to get that.
  12. They didn't really go on to become "saborian and the los" so much as Stormy just put out the LP under that name. The lost family is just the CODs but with Stormy replacing Larry Brownlee who was in the lost generation at the time.
  13. I think that's wrong and that you have an original
  14. I've had pretty bad luck with cdbaby overall, especially when it's not new artists putting out new CDs. I find when people find their old material is desirable they will press up anything and just send it to cdbaby, often with poor packaging, etc. Is the CD you bought a CD-R or a real CD?
  15. The offers are really a one-way street though. The buyer can't possibly offer too much though and only risks offending the seller. The seller can ask some stupid price and won't really 'offend' anyone, at least here. It's really the seller's game, so I don't think it's unreasonable for a buyer to ask how much the seller wants.
  16. this group is from virginia.
  17. I don't think it got us release, I think mine is dutch.
  18. this is what the dancing looks like (I just picked random videos on youtube): and this

  21. CRA is mostly gospel. It's the same label as Cash and Coin though. There are a bunch of extremely obscure but good soul records on the label. The notations on cash ("now I know") is a really nice 70s northern cut with a great sweet flip. Skip Drake "wrapped around your finger" is a really nice midtempo. Harrison and the Majestic Kind on Coin is a nice ballad version of their twinight cut. There are a few more decent obscure records on the label.
  22. this is the same group as on twinight, tad, CRA, Cash, mercury, etc. (obviously there were lineup changes). We talk about this record in the interview on my webpage. I don't understand your question, though, Clifford Curry, lead of the Notations was 100% Chicago. Maybe you are confusing him with the other singer Clifford Curry on Elf, who was not related in any way? Thanks.
  23. I've seen it for sale a few times recently, Indiana funk had one on ebay a year ago and it was on ebay a couple more times. I got mine from a barry wickham list a few years ago. There are a lot of records that rarely come up for sale that aren't valuable though and always used to sell for cheap, I guess all those records are becoming valuable though. I have never seen it for sale with the pic sleeve I don't think. I have seen it with a green print label and a black print label, like I mentioned, maybe the green print label is the one that actually came with the pic sleeve but mine is black print. I actually like the track but I can't see that price tag, even if it is hard to find.
  24. Are you sure the groove stick is a girl group? That is the one I'm talking about. I think it's a male garage group. I could be wrong though. Maybe you are thinking of the totally excellent imitation of life by the voices on marlu / blue soul, etc. That is a totally different song which is actually good.
  25. this was never a 500 pound record before it booked like that, more like a $40 record. sort of hard to find but not impossible. The pic sleeve is very hard to find though. I'm guessing it would go maybe $100-$200 on ebay now. The label comes with two ways, if i remember correctly, one with green print and one with black print. there is also a garage band that does 'imitation' on uptown also, i'm forgetting what it is right now.
