  1. it's not worth buying $100 records imo until you have at least a couple DJable sets of cheap records. I'm not even talking about the "5 pounds cheapies" thread which are often hard to find cheap records that might go up in value and that aren't all great, I'm talking about the suggestions in this thread and artists like the Impressions, Five Stairsteps, gene chandler, etc. It's not just "settling" for records you afford, these records are actually better than most 4 figure records imo. The only issue would be if you're DJing events where people are expecting well known expensive northern records and you don't have them.
  2. gene chandler - there goes the lover
  3. Hi. Today I did a long Sitting in the Park show. I had to sub for the previous and following DJs, so I reran my Keni Burke / Five Stairsteps interview and did a longer music show. I just put online the part of the show where I played 45s, I hope you enjoy it. I started off the show with some early ‘60s hard female R&B, then played some uptempo Chicago dance cuts, and then played 60s, 70s, and 80s sweet soul for the reset of the show. You can check out the show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/6-30-2013.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com Also, if someone you know wants to subscribe to this email list, they can add themselves at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Playlist follows and I hope you enjoy the show. there definitely are very old photos that look new, if they were stored properly. of course that doesn't authenticate your photos.
  5. that was a good price for the stimulation, someone missed out
  6. added by site What do you get when you cross the legendary group harmony of the Impressions, with the savvy production stylings of Daptone’s very own master of ceremonies and guitar dynamo, Binky Griptite? Easy, you get one of the finest collaborations that has ever been realized onto 7 inches of high quality vinyl. "Rhythm" the aptly titled A-Side, is a Curtis Mayfield penned tune that was a big hit for Major Lance in the Mid-Sixties. The Impressions revive this classic with their iconic sophisticated harmonies and a new horn arrangement by "The 4th Impression", Johnny Pate himself, that moves the song along at a laid back, yet dance friendly pace. link below for more info and clips https://daptonerecords.com/shop/index.php?route=product%2Fproduct&product_id=308 http://s3.amazonaws.com/Daptone/Previews/THE%20IMPRESSIONS/01%20Rhythm.wav

I don't know if it would help you, but you can get the seller's email address and phone using "request contact information" if you have a completed transaction. if s/he doesn't respond to email, a cheap skype phone call should get their attention.

the issue isn't payment, the issue is that ebay won't allow bids from a UK registered seller if the seller has blocked the UK from his buyer destinations
  13. i would also be scared of long-term effects of a marking on the vinyl or the label, even if it initially appeared inert. what if, over time, the invisible marking wore differently, for example?
  14. I think he's saying it was released on the Junior label
  15. weirdly not much info about him on the internet. this is interesting, he was based in new york, here's a village voice ad for him seeking a pop vocalist: https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=KHpIAAAAIBAJ&sjid=H4wDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3481,5989345&dq=tash-howard&hl=en
  16. at least the discogs entries for the producer Tash Howard are all pop. That could just be because Discogs doesn't have much soul in it though: https://www.discogs.com/artist/Tash+Howard?anv=T.+Howard didn't google much more. also, i've still never found this single with the flip...

actually, there are some sorts of tariffs on some things, like sugar, which is why all the soda manufacturers initially switched to corn syrup. but consumer packages don't get charged anything based on value, as far as I know. There isn't any mechanism to collect money at least.
  18. boba replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
no, US doesn't charge import tax on anything. It's funny, people tell me that they're declaring low value, I just tell them "okay, thanks". I guess it keeps it from drawing attention to the package. US customs is mainly concerned with intercepting drug shipments and "terrorism".

i hate when i win something for cheap and sellers then skimp on the packaging, like use a mailer with no fillers so it's rattling around. how do they know it wasn't a $250 record for me and would have sold for such if someone else had also bid? a reputable seller ships consistently and safely and doesn't try to nickle and dime buyers.
  20. well they used to be worth nothing. if people care now fine, i guess that's the case for many records.
  21. that's not entirely an accurate picture of the forum, the whole forum is pretty much dead with a few hangers on. its heyday was 10 years ago.
  22. these aren't worth anything as far as i know. there are two good intentions 45s on brewtown. white band.
  23. really? she was embarrassed by it?
