  1. I like how their only feedback is pretty much from buying a "learn how to sell on ebay" CD, plus that fake flowers seller was also from small town illinois, which is suspicious if the photo on this also isn't original.
  2. it keeps coming up so it has gone down. craig moorer seems to have a lot that he'll never sell because he has 4 figures on it. i hope it goes down more though.
  3. I like the "next time he'll be good" 45 on perception also. The lp also has a nice version of cindy and the playmates on kemp.
  4. which eight minutes 45s are you talking about? there are a bunch and there are 2 on perception. anyways, the eight minutes are good, I'm not sure what track you're talking about.
  5. jim porter had a deal with perception, he previously took the eight minutes to the label.
  6. Velvet is from Chicago, the Quadraphonics are from Milwaukee, there is no connection between the groups. Harvey Scales managed the Quadraphonics. I haven't confirmed this, but I think Velvet evolved out of the Flairs.
  7. Hi. I didn't do an interview today which means I did an all music radio show. I played a lot of really nice obscure records. At the end of my show I also did a focus remembering Dee Dee Warwick, who died last week. Dee Dee was one of the greatest and most underrated female voices in soul music. You can listen to my show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-26-2008.mp3 Playlist follows. Thanks for your interest. 8. thanks. i have a copy which was dead mint when I got it (from this insane guy, his apartment was filled with strange antiques and a large shelf of lps that i'm sure he bought new and never played and kept mint), it's probably close to the same condition now. if someone wants to offer me a trade for it (e.g. in the line of group soul -- northern or ballad, or obscure chicago soul), that would work.
  9. what are the recent ebay prices?
  10. i can't tell you anything about this except that I don't think it's common because i would remember seeing it. bizarre record, almost country sounding. in fact, because of the sound, I would say that even as a rare record, it would still be available somewhere like gemm.com but it's not, so maybe that's an indication of its rarity?
  11. i think i have another innerversion logo record but i would have to dig them out
  12. maybe the seller will screw up and accidentally ship to you?
  13. it didn't go to the UK, same US winner as the junior mccants
  14. Thanks, I always preferred the late motown and abc material to their early motown. I always thought motown promoted them as a pop group.
  15. i think his name is on the impact 45 on full scale but I don't have the 45. I have the mystique 45 on washington hit makers, I can see if his name is on that. Did you contact Kevin of dcsoulrecordings.com?
  16. almost anyone I've ever talked to that has been contacted by someone from the UK has always been told "my record is number one in England!" What kind of a stupid hustle is that? I guess it gets people excited at least. A funny one was James Dockery, first he was contacted about the Rokk 45, then later about one of his solo 45s. He was like first the Rokk record was #1 in England, then my other record went #1.
  17. i think it must actually be early 70s because the larry dixon is like #501 and I think says 1971 on it (again this is all from my memory, I would have to go home to check). Either way, it's not common or known, I guess it could be valuable if people picked up on it.
  18. i have the 504 number you mention, it's a funk instrumental, right? I can't remember it now, I will have to check when I get home (something like the "sounds of" something?). Nothing is really common on the label. The larry dixon "this time" is the only sort of valuable record on the label. I'm not sure it's a custom label as Dave mentions though, but it might be.
  19. this is a chicago label, there are about 5-6 records on it, most commonly the one by larry dixon. Most of the other releases are gospel.
  20. I was looking on popsike to try to find the scan yesterday, I thought it looked suspicious but I couldn't tell because the resolutions didn't match up. I think you have a good eye though, seeing those spots (I didn't notice them before). It looks the same.
  21. no, they said they didn't have tapes of their unreleased contemporary gospel lp from 1977, I'm sure it would be good. the unreleased lyde fisher giles material (last week's interview) was great. Karl, all that would be right up your alley.
  22. Charles Russell has an awesome voice on other sweet soul records, he sings lead on the four dudes on sivad-j, image on janus, and new image (on bionic and other labels). He has a strange sounding, very distinctive voice.
  23. I can't believe no one has responded to this yet. This is easily one of the best music clips I've seen on youtube (along with the Soul performance of the blue notes with teddy singing 'I miss you'). Everything about this clip is awesome. despite everyone wearing all 60s clothing, it's so real and live and not staged looking, everyone looks like normal people and you can even hear a small audience clapping in the background. plus the drells jumping around at the beginning is so awesome.
  24. thanks. they also recently put up a myspace page: https://www.myspace.com/thenextmovementshow
  25. Hi. Today on my radio show I interviewed two members of the Next Movement. The Next Movement formed in April 1972 and were from the south side of Chicago. Original member Samuel Thomas Jr. lived around 79th street and was singing in a group with his older cousins called the Magic Four. The other group members -- Carnell Haywood, Earl Shelby, Guy Sutton, and Alonzo Pickens -- lived in Stateway Gardens, the housing at 35th and State that was home to many other Chicago groups such as the Lost Generation. The group originally formed as the Magical Connection when Sam's manager, James Hall, brought Sam to Lonnie Hampton, the manager of the other group members. The Magical Connection cut their first record, "Hey girl why you wanna take my heart" in 1972 on Hall's Solar Sun label. Most of the group members were not even teenagers and the record had a Jackson Five-inspired bubblegum sound. The single got local airplay and the group appeared on the local Chicago Soul Train promoting the song. A year later, after a management change, the group changed their name to the Next Movement. They released their second single (a Jackson Five styled ballad), "Everywhere you go", in 1973 on Lonnie Hampton's Crown Town record label. The group's band, the Shadow of Shades (also consisting of kids), played the music on the record. The group continued to perform local shows throughout high school. In 1976, the group did a show with Red Foxx; Foxx liked the group and took them to Las Vegas for a two-week engagement. Although Foxx wanted to keep them in Vegas, the group ended up returning to Chicago due to some management issues. Although they recorded several more times, the Next Movement never released any more material in the 70s. The Next Movement finally released their next record in 1980 when they signed to Lucky Cordell's GEC label. The group recorded and released a whole LP. "You're the one" was released as a single off of the album, but the cut "Never stop dancing" got the most play as an album cut. Lucky took the group to New York's Prelude records and they released a single, "Let's work it out" in 1982. The group changed management again and released another single, "All I do" on Gus Redmond's Nuance label in 1984. "All I do" spent 8 weeks on the national Billboard R&B Charts, peaking at number 69, and was the group's biggest hit. The group continued to perform throughout the 80s. In 1992, the group went to a music convention in Atlanta and were discovered by a couple of promoters who took them to Las Vegas to perform at the Aladdin Hotel. They performed at the Aladdin for a year and have stayed in Vegas, performing continuously since their initial move. They currently have a website -- www.thenextmovementshow.com -- that describes their current engagements as well as the new music they are releasing. Interestingly, two years ago, an ebay auction sold a studio acetate of the Magical Connection's "Hey Girl" along with an unreleased cut from the same session called "Jackson Man". The artist name was not marked on the record and it was sold as an unreleased Jackson Five recording and it sold for 4200 pounds (over $8000)! You can check out my interview on my page at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/interviews.html I also did a Four Tops focus in tribute to Levi Stubbs, who passed away last week. You can listen to the Four Tops focus at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/10-19-2008-FourTops.mp3 The playlist is: Nature planned it In these changing times Are you man enough Midnight flower Still waters run deep Just seven numbers Since you've been gone Ain't no woman like the one I got thanks for your interest, Bob
