  1. group members posted here at some point I think. they are from springfield, MS
  2. I know you're just joking, but offering 200 pounds for the grand prixs is not the same thing as offering 3500 for mello souls. and nobody in the thread said that the leroy barbour was worth 100 pounds or the mello souls was worth 2000 pounds. i honestly would like a copy of the grand prixs, and don't want to pay 300 pounds for it. maybe I'll have to wait a while but i'll get it eventually, maybe via trade. or maybe i'll get enough of my wants and not have enough records to buy that i'll eventually want to pay 300 pounds for it (unlikely as records are endless...).
  3. I'll pay 200 pounds for the grand prixs record m-, less for worse condition. for my collection, not to resell. Real request. What's funny is that every time I post something like this even in a non-manship results thread someone offers me a beat one for double.
  4. yeah, apparently he was also in the red heifers
  5. the label had weird detroit-atlanta connections, a bunch of atl artists on it
  6. I still don't even own the yum yums 45, and i have a lot of 45s
  7. i have never seen a reissue / boot of this. if it has been i don't think it's been on ebay.
  8. I actually think Ralph sang on most of the songs.
  9. wow i never even knew there were any other versions besides the van dykes. is there another version by a non-reggae group?
  10. on the LP cover of the cotillion LP is sam gooden, fred cash, reginald torian, and nate evans. but nate didn't replace ralph johnson until the end of the cotillion era, when ralph went to join Mystique.
  11. I already admitted my stupid mistake saying Donnie instead of Leroy. However, Ralph did not join until after Reggie joined. Listen to my interview with Reggie, it's super interesting. Reggie also previously recorded as a member of the Enchanters on Golden Ear.
  12. duh (I'm slow today) leroy hutson. sorry!
  13. just clarifying, the group definitely isn't the original group with curtis, i just wanted to make sure people weren't discouraged thinking it was a "fake" group or something. they have a long history. thanks a lot.
  14. Also, I wouldn't exactly call the group "semi-original", at least wiith a negative connotation. This is the lineup since about 1970, pretty much since curtis left to go solo (ignoring a small period of less than a year where donny hathaway sang lead). it's not like curtis died and reggie replaced him. plus reggie is an awesome dude and a great singer.
  15. it's not worth buying $100 records imo until you have at least a couple DJable sets of cheap records. I'm not even talking about the "5 pounds cheapies" thread which are often hard to find cheap records that might go up in value and that aren't all great, I'm talking about the suggestions in this thread and artists like the Impressions, Five Stairsteps, gene chandler, etc. It's not just "settling" for records you afford, these records are actually better than most 4 figure records imo. The only issue would be if you're DJing events where people are expecting well known expensive northern records and you don't have them.
  16. gene chandler - there goes the lover
  17. Hi. Today I did a long Sitting in the Park show. I had to sub for the previous and following DJs, so I reran my Keni Burke / Five Stairsteps interview and did a longer music show. I just put online the part of the show where I played 45s, I hope you enjoy it. I started off the show with some early ‘60s hard female R&B, then played some uptempo Chicago dance cuts, and then played 60s, 70s, and 80s sweet soul for the reset of the show. You can check out the show at: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/6-30-2013.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com Also, if someone you know wants to subscribe to this email list, they can add themselves at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Playlist follows and I hope you enjoy the show. 20. added by site What do you get when you cross the legendary group harmony of the Impressions, with the savvy production stylings of Daptone’s very own master of ceremonies and guitar dynamo, Binky Griptite? Easy, you get one of the finest collaborations that has ever been realized onto 7 inches of high quality vinyl. "Rhythm" the aptly titled A-Side, is a Curtis Mayfield penned tune that was a big hit for Major Lance in the Mid-Sixties. The Impressions revive this classic with their iconic sophisticated harmonies and a new horn arrangement by "The 4th Impression", Johnny Pate himself, that moves the song along at a laid back, yet dance friendly pace. link below for more info and clips https://daptonerecords.com/shop/index.php?route=product%2Fproduct&product_id=308 http://s3.amazonaws.com/Daptone/Previews/THE%20IMPRESSIONS/01%20Rhythm.wav
