the whole thing that Dave Brown told me is that they did NOT have a connection to the trammps or volcanos and that that is a long standing rumor and that he got his info from John Madera somehow. I'm just relaying info, you could email him for more details if you want, I don't have a first-hand source on this.

he already got negatived from selling non-record items with other people's photos (e.g. sold an old piece of equipment with a new photo). maybe he needs to invest in a scanner if he really has all those records. I still don't see any feedback on him from recent record sales.

once I posted a big want list here and then found some german guy stole the entire list and posted like a few of their wants under it on their myspace page, which was funny. i got most of the items on it since anyways (but not from here!).

i like how the okki nokki ad says the "VIP" in italics, like they're trying to confused the buyer with the VPI... the VPI is the most well known (at least in the US) vacuum record cleaning system, probably followed by the nitty gritty. the other two things (the one in the original post and the one you link) look similar. They all work the same way I guess. I think they're all more ideal for cleaning LPs anyways, I personally think I get can 45s cleaner by hand.

I can scan both sides of the chargers (very hard on issue) if you still need it by tonight. My scanner is putting a blue line on each image, though, so I don't know if you can take it out or not (I'm going to get a new one in a few days). Dave Brown told me that the Chargers are the same group as the moods on wand / red dog and that they actually have no relation to the volcanoes as previously rumored.

Hi. Today on my radio show I interviewed Barbara Green. Barbara was from Argo, IL (a suburb adjacent to the southwest side of Chicago, now known as Summit, IL). Barbara started singing at an early age, after her Godmother, Lorenza Brown Porter (a founding member of the Argo Singers gospel group), let Barbara sing at a fashion show when she was only 6 years old. When Barbara was 13, Lorenza took her to Vee Jay records. Barbara auditioned for James Bracken and signed with the label, ending up recording only a few days later. In the session, Barbara recorded 4 sides, all backed by the Dells. Her first single, "Young boy", was finally released on Vee Jay's Vivid records subsidiary after Barbara turned 14. The track had a great "Hello Stranger"-inspired sound (due to similar production and the same backing singers as on Barbara Lewis' single), and became an R&B and pop hit. Barbara did local shows and record hops to promote the record. Vivid records released a second single, "Our love is no secret now" / "A lover's plea" as a follow-up, but the record received little promotion. Unbeknownst to Barbara, the two singles were also released on Renee records out of Philadelphia. Vee Jay records soon went out of business and Barbara stopped recording to focus on her high school studies. After high school, Barbara studied music and performed in local clubs, but never recorded again. She is currently a teacher in Milwaukee. thanks for listening. you could actually theoretically listen live to the show and interact with the people by calling up, the radio station actually streams live at www.whpk.org. But the time difference is pretty bad (7:30PM chicago time = 1:30AM UK time I think). I have booked interviews every single week through the middle of January so far. Today I'm doing Barbara Greene ("young boy"), but it's on the phone so you couldn't actually call up since the phone would be busy. Most of the other weeks for the rest of the year people are actually coming into the studio though. i think jerhart is the original label, there are several label variations also. even though it is now the most indemand version, i actually think the impression is a reissue (but I'm open to be told otherwise). I think it's a case of the reissue being rarer than the original and people assuming it's original. the mica / roy wright thing was probably an attempt by Bob Lee to cash in a second time when he started working with Al Benson / Crash.

I responded to Mel on soulfuldetroit, but I think this record is connected to chicago (even though it is obviously produced and recorded in detroit). The scott brothers also have a smash 45 with the same detroit production, and it's definitely the chicago scott bros as it's their publishing. All the same names are on the irene and the scotts on smash. It may be related to Irene Scott, I'm not sure. I am going to try to find out soon about this, I will post if I get any info.

but that's exactly what I said in my email, i said that if it should be used (which I'm still not sure), it should only be used in the context of a rarity that has been well known by collectors for a long time where if people had had it it would have become public -- e.g. frank wilson. I still think the term is even silly in that context, as people live in much smaller worlds than they think, but at least it's ok if people acknowledge that their circle of collectors doesn't include everyone. I hate when records get quotes in terms of "known copies" on ebay, they're never Kell Osborne on Highland or Junior McCants but always some obscuro records (or even not-that-obscure records) that some people do have buried away. Quoting "known copies" shouldn't matter anyways, if the record is truly rare and truly good, that will determine the price, who buys a record trying to just get the 3rd copy?
