  1. i don't know the reason but i will say that it is impossible to find 45s in Chicago and it has been slim pickings for many many years. many many people looking too, contacting label owners, etc. I'm not seeing many finds or unsourced labels coming out from chicago anytime soon if ever. i've actually never been to detroit but i've heard at least that it's much easier to find records there overall
  2. lots of record label owners from back in the day were gangsters, lots of stories from every US city probably.
  3. i have all 3 krystal generation 45s on mr. chand, I can post the scan of the one you want to see when I get home. One of them is almost impossible to find with the flip, I got the stock copy out of a stack of gene-chandler related stuff someone brought to a record show after looking for at least 10 years for it. krystal generation are also the same group as tender touch on paramount, at least one of the sides is identical to the cmc release

also, I don't think I've seen 2009 credit "the daylighters and the knight lights", I will check my copy on that when I get home too.

actually I'm pretty sure I have a listing for 2011 (I think it's a detroit artist on the chicago label, maybe jackie harris, I will check) but have never seen 2004, which is what I had as the missing number. Have you seen the mary silvers 45?

i will try to post one when I get a chance (assuming you mean the chicago label), there is one missing number that nobody knows btw
  7. i have a lovelles german only release on that RS label, it's the same florida group as on brent / atco and one of the sides was released in the US but it has a good northern side only released on the RS label.
  8. Hi Darryl. I also like "you must know magic" as my favorite record of yours. Do you remember who the backing singers were -- were they a group that recorded on their own?
  9. the album is more like 70s rare groove, e.g. with tracks like backed up against the wall plus with the whole donald byrd production. i like the track mentioned in the thread but I also don't understand why it would be some sort of breakthrough 70s track for pete that makes him all of a sudden like 70s, there's nothing incredibly special or unique about it
  10. the last couple lists have had some less rare items on auction for very high starting prices. it's stupid since he was making fun of manship for it. plus i thought all the pot shots at him were pretty funny before but they're getting old.
  11. I was supposed to do an interview today on my radio show but the guys had an emergency and had to reschedule. Instead, I did an all socially conscious, Black Power themed show in honor of both Martin Luther King Day as well as Barack Obama's inauguration (Barack also happens to live a few blocks from the radio station). I started the show off with a few late-60s political DJ "rap" records. 12. i always get screwed in these situations too because paypal will only refund your money if it's in the seller's account. the earlier you guys get your dispute in the more likely you are to get your money back.
  13. if you're looking for the charters there are only two known copies, it's like the frank wilson but more known just to motown collectors, a nice record too.
  14. no but he was married to one of the members of the group. there was a male member in the paramonts, though, mckinley norris, who was also a member of the devotions on nation. he should be at the soultrip.
  15. feedback is never the way to get your record, posting negative feedback should only be done at the end when you are 100% screwed. If there is a chance the seller is honest and has a problem, posting a negative will alienate them. Go through the whole paypal process, then post feedback at the end when you got your record or when you're definitely not getting anything.
  16. I'm not sure, I think members of the notations will be at soultrip at least. Nobody knows where Otis Brown is, I've talked to people who were close to him at the time (e.g. members of the paramonts, etc.), I'd love to find him too as his publishing is on everything.
  17. I don't think Gordy acquired the label, it was a motown label from the start. They released a few soul releases and switched it to be a country label. That's why I was asking if it was one of the soul titles on the label that I somehow didn't know about, I obviously wouldn't ask that about other random posts here. One of the rarest soul 45s on motown is the charters 45 on mel-o-dy by the way. Thanks.
  18. is it soul?
  19. there is no reason for you to not initiate a paypal dispute NOW, which doesn't do anything and which is like a warning to the seller. You can then escalate it to a claim if he doesn't respond. Doing it makes it less likely the seller will blow you off. You also need to do it soon because there is a time limit after the auction during which you can file the claim.
  20. i am trying to set up a vontastics interview on my radio show (www.sittinginthepark.com), I'm currently in contact with the guitarist. Bobby Newsome was Bobby James on Karol, by the way, Mark Bicknell has posted some letter he got from him here a few times.
  21. I think I know this but I'm not sure but I can't think of what it is. I like it. I'm 100% sure someone on the spectropop list would know right away, I will let you know if I think of it or hopefully someone here thinks of it. Thanks.
  22. i don't know anything about the band but google reveals that that is who the band is
  23. did you see a copy of "this is the place" went through ebay a week or two ago?
  24. Not convenient for most people in the UK, but if anyone is coming already for "soultrip" and for some reason staying extra long, you might want to check this out. Saturday April 4th 2009, there is going to be a live show in Chicago with: Syl Johnson Nate Evans The Notations Renaldo Domino Kaldirons Final Solution https://numerogroup.com/catalog_detail.php?uid=00942# I'm guessing this will sell out, anyone around Chicago at the time should try to go.
  25. i've never heard of this mispress (and there are many presses of opportunity as it was a hit, for example, on styrene, vinyl, etc.). if you post audio of the mispress i might be able to identify it.
