I have a really nice copy of the Mystiques "Put out the fire" / "So glad to have you home again" up for sale. "Put out the fire" is currently in-demand funky northern and "So glad" is one of the greatest sweet soul cuts of all time. The record is, conservatively, a strong VG, only some very light surface scuffs on each side. There is a cut-out hole on the label, which is the nice color stock label. Here are 300DPI scans of each side: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/mystiques%20-%20put%20out%20the%20fire.jpg https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/mystiques%20-%20so%20good%20to%20have%20you%20home%20again.jpg Here are unaltered 256kbs stereo clips of each side: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/mystiques%20-%20put%20out%20the%20fire.mp3? https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/mystiques%20-%20so%20good%20to%20have%20you%20home%20again.mp3? Offers starting at $800. Paypal gift only. I will pay global express shipping. Please only make an offer if you can pay within 24 hours. Please only send offers to SITPSales@gmail.com. Thank you.

Internationals - Beautiful Philosophy / Too Sweet Trade For Steptones
boba replied to boba's topic in Record Sales
nobody offered any trades, got a couple of people interested but not sure if they will buy, open to just purchase now. mods can move to sales if they want. -
someone in TX turned up some small quantity of satin that went through ebay like 5 years ago. didn't affect price much. i think johnny dollar stole the song, when i was going through john mckinney's stuff i actually found sheet music for the song that had him as writing it (I guess it could have been stolen from him). but there's also the weird title changes. let me see if i scanned the sheet music.

I have a copy of the Internationals - Too sweet to be lonely / Beautiful philosophy for trade. It has almost full gloss, moderate light surface scuffs, and a few marks on each side. Plays perfect. Here is full 256kbs stereo audio of each side: https://www.divshare.com/download/24301332-b34 https://www.divshare.com/download/24301334-4de here are full 300 DPI scans of each side. There is some light wear on the "too sweet" side label, as visible: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/internationals%20-%20beautiful%20philosophy.jpg https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/internationals%20-%20too%20sweet%20to%20be%20lonely.jpg I'm looking for a steptones "lonely one" in at least VG (e.g. similar to this record) or better condition, a good fileable copy. Will consider other rare group records in trade. If I can't get a trade, would sell for $250 paypal gift ppd anywhere in the world, but would prefer a trade. Please email me at sitpsales@gmail.com to inquire. Thank you.

Satin is Lennie Satin, who also recorded a record on FIP. Nate Evans pressed both versions of the 45 himself. "The magnetics" is not the magnetics, it's John McKinney (of the Magnetics) with just some girls backing, recorded in New York. Either the Satin or Phelps is the first version, probably the Satin.

this is incredible

also, i think the lead of the combinations is jimmy "okera" hightower
-
thanks as always for listening. i noticed in the recording that one of the channels was missing for some reason so you can't hear the dialog in the ronnie mcneir which is too bad.
-
both presses are from '66. one is a yellow label one is a gold metallic label. I'm actually not sure which one is first, the gold one is distributed by "parliament studios" which is one of the most basement studios on the west side, so it's not like it was picked up by a larger entity, I'm pretty sure it was just recorded there. the traits are the same group as the center stage, the later center stage version was actually a bigger hit in Chicago. most people don't know this, and I didn't know this until ady potts told me, but there are also two presses of their second 45 (the orig traits) on contact. There is a different writing credit on one of the sides and one press has piano and one doesn't.

i don't know how you can tell from the zanzibar label design whether a record was legitimately licensed or not, but they released new music and bootlegged at least one title (the ideals gorilla).
-
not for the northern soul market, for the LA oldies market
-
100% sure it's an LA bootleg

this is the shells lineup: Charles Calvin, Willie Exon, Billy Harper, James Calvin same lineup on the Volt 45. I'm think they're from Chicago, like I said in my previous email.
-
arlene bailey is from the boston area, she has a webpage if you google it i'm pretty sure the shells on conlo are from chicago, and I have a lineup. the record is pretty common here without a clocktower on the label, just a yellow label. the label design you're thinking of is on an arlene bailey 45 and jamo thomas 45.

the awakening is an ancient reissue, like from the first era of US rare groove soul/funk reissues, reissued by luv n' haight in 1996. ubiquity and luv n' haight are the same entity, I don't know the history as to how they became related. here is some info on the group: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pharaohs they have 2 45s, they also have a 45 on capitol.

no, i already have too many people that i haven't interviewed yet from local groups. i can probably get in contact with her if you know someone who wants to interview her though. i think i asked her if she sang in any group first though (that's always my first question!) and she said she was always a solo singer outside of EWF.
-
the salty peppers were pretty much the first official incarnation of the group but they evolved out of the pharoahs. i posted here that i met sherry scott like a couple of months ago, super super nice lady, she was actually going up to the dance show after me to promote some new house single

there are a bunch of records on divenus, including some terrible white crooner things

special category will go up in value eventually (both sides are great actually). it may have not appealed to the UK northern scene back whenever but it has the right funky 70s hard drums that appeal to younger collectors. maybe manship thought now was the time it would break, which is why he auctioned it. maybe if he had done it a year later it would have gone higher. who knows. but i think it definitely will go up.
-
yeah, something like that. i don't know about tips, i was into the record before that find, i bought 5 copies from that dude and i think i sold all of them. the find didn't affect the value much, it seemed to expose the record more actually. seems to consistently be like a $100-$150 record set sale (although the manship auction was on the lower end). I wish I bought more copies and just sold a lot of them for $75. surprised it wasn't higher before and its value hasn't changed much since, it's so good and it appeals to the newer generation of collectors and is kind of funky and 70s.
-
actually most of the copies of the roe-o-tation floating around are mint. some dude found a box of like 50 or 100 in a garbage bin in chicago and was selling them on ebay. they all had a big pair of "X"'s on them. this is in addition to copies that might have already been in the UK. I'm not sure I've ever seen a beat copy actually.

head to the sky is my favorite track by them
