  1. maybe it was because your rude answers to their questions turned them off...
  2. there are those weird probably unissued titles like the second cheers 45, that weird major lance title, etc. if any of those existed they would be ultra-rare.
  3. again, this is an ojays cover. stand-in for love was the intended b-side as it's not released on the promo. probably the o'jays version came out first. i actually asked andrew hamilton, who did some work for saru, if he remembered pandella kelly, he said he didn't.
  4. this has been on ebay several times. a well known northern dj won the last copy. it went cheap. ok i'm just messing with you this time, i haven't ever seen this actually.
  5. it is an ohio record accordings to www.ohiosoulrecordings.com. I'm not sure about that though. the motown supremes were not the first supremes either, there was at least one male doowop group with that name.
  6. 90% of the songs I play are love songs. That is the convention of the genre. Are the songs I play not "real soul music"? I 100% disagree with your beef with these tracks. You could make an argument about the quality of the songs, could make an argument that making a "retro" sound is not moving forward or relevant, etc., but to say that this is not real soul music because it isn't political is silly. The form of the music, the practice of making it, etc. is inherently "black", having political lyrics is not necessarily meaningful. A lot of the political songs of the 70s are sort of shallow and silly in hindsight while a lot of the love songs are timeless. Similar to how the most classic rap music might be about bragging, gucci clothes, or violence, and are often much better than the dated sounds of public enemy and other 'political' acts.
  7. i really like kings go forth "high on your love" and I think the mayer hawthorne single is great (despite the overdubs instead of a real group).
  8. i've never seen this. the label is definitely detroit looking too.
  9. i learned here that the sweethearts "eddie my love" is a cover of the teen queens on rpm, a 50s record. Doing my radio show several times I have played a record that the doowop DJ before me pointed out was a cover of a doowop record.
  10. baby don't you go is the a-side and it says so on the record. i got flamed by northern soul-ers on here before for saying so. have you heard fred moss on vanessa? I think it's the same group (definitely same lead) and is also an amazing sweet soul cut.
  11. this is the side I play but isn't the other side a known northern record that you should be listing here? am I confused?
  12. The ebay copy was sold by john anderson. He had a low start so he was also surprised by the ending price probably. I think this is mainly unknown so there really isn't an established price, but it is pretty tare. I would. Be glad to pay 100 pounds to upgrade my copy (although I do have a mint promo which doesn't have that side). This is an uptempo version of an ojays song btw.
  13. maybe he has one of morris chestnut jr. i seriously doubt he has one of the attractions, I know that pretty much the biggest r&b photo collector doesn't have one I don't think. I'm sure there was an attractions publicity photo taken given that they were an act on a major label with several records. but if anyone has one it would be either a collector in LA or someone who got some bell stuff. but i'm sure there's not one circulating in the general collecting community.
  14. thanks so much for being a regular listener, I appreciate it
  15. I'm pretty sure I have it, will try to scan it when I get home. The red label ones are all scepter distributed, feet one should be local chicago.
  16. i have never seen the top version of this before. if you want an absolute first press it would be the purple label with the feet on it.
  17. this was brought up in feedback recently and mike said it was difficult to do. i think all the above rules are good ideas btw

    Only One Want

promo copies of this don't have the awesome sweet soul flip "pity for a fool" if you were looking for that
  19. what is the flip of the eldees? Was it good? I'd love to hear it.
  20. I have at least one other larks money 45 on safe. I have seen the bobbi row on safe before (although John posted it below).

  22. butch outbid me on one of the ones I've seen so he either has a very trashed copy in his collection or has a better copy and bought a trashed copy to sell or trade
  23. also, charles russell has a very distinctive high voice, if you send me an audio clip I could tell you right away whether it was him or not.
  24. i've seen it a couple of times, always trashed, I don't own it. got bootlegged on one of rich rosen's CDs recently.
  25. it's listed that way in the soul harmony singles book and it sounds exactly like don julian lead with the larks to me and not white. I guess that book and my ears could be wrong, I don't know what the source was for the book. The larks did record under other names -- e.g. the pretenders.
