  1. Hi. Last Sunday on my radio show I had special DJ Corey Thomas, a record collector from Chattanooga, TN. He did a special two hour set and brought my show back to a lot of the classic ‘70s falsetto sounds that is the real basis for my sound. You can listen here: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-28-2013.mp3? You can listen to other shows and interviews with Chicago groups by going to my main page www.sittinginthepark.com Also, if someone you know wants to subscribe to this email list, they can add themselves at the following URL: https://eepurl.com/n7Qr5 Playlist follows and I hope you enjoy the show. 5 Stairsteps - Ooh child - Buddah Zircons - Mama wants to drive - Federal Symbolics - I’m gonna get you back - Plut Simtec and Wylie - Gotta get over the hump - Mister Chand Summits - Let me love you again - DC International Ethics - Who in the world - Golden Fleece Brief Encounter - Just a little notion - Seventy Seven Black Ivory - I’ll fly away (loneliest man in town) - Today Movements - You don’t know - Peanut Country Final Seconds - Lost on a highway - Boo Koo First Class - What about me - Today Peace on Earth - Love foundation - Chat Town Sounds Philadelphia Flyers - Oh girl (why you wanna get married) - GM (UK) Smoke - Rainy nights put me in the mood for love - J-Bridge (LP) AD+G - The great performer - Denine Chattanooga Coachmen - Your love is all I need - Rondo Jupiter’s Release - Never never - Owl Blue Magic - Guess who - Atco JJ+G - That’s what I get for loving you - Atlantic Realistics - I think I’ll cry out loud - Brunswick Exceptionals - What is living - Red Roach Paradise - We belong together - Phil-a of Soul Dynamic Five - Lover’s lullabye - UA Jimmy Briscoe and the Beavers - You’re my life, you’re my love, you’re my girl - Pi Kappa Michael Hudson - Girls are made for loving - Chimneyville Dedric Lamar and Face - How to love - Munnie Andre and Zero Plus - Sparkle in a woman’s eye - Eyeball Victones - Someone really loves you (can you guess who) - Front Page Philly Devotions - Come on over to the loving side - Don-De Answers to Love - It was real - Lion Velvet - Bet you if you ask around - Perception thanks, Bob

  2. i know of some history of drag performers (e.g. the ones with rudy ray moore) but not ones who attempted to record real original music singles phil medley wrote "twist and shout" apparently and isn't famous for that much else. would love to know more backstory.
  3. anyone know what the story is with this record / singer? is elsie a transvestite? an unusual real woman? i quickly googled and couldn't find any info. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-plPRFlJko also, do people really think the record is "great" and "fantastic"? nothing to do with the gender of the singer, it's just not that good singing and production. does it have some sort of history on the scene?
  4. the service is supposed to now include delivery confirmation. i don't know if your carrier is scanning the packages when they deliver them to you or not, but you don't have to be home or sign for delivery confirmation to occur.
  5. I actually like the Valerie and Nick version of "I'll find you" better than the Bee Jays. The Bee Jays is just a duo, only two voices. The Valerie and Nick actually has at least 3 voices, don't know if they did overdubs or if there was a third person. Sort of counterintuitive...
  6. this turned into the debate team message board
  7. no shipping rates have been decreased. but if paypal starts to accept first class international tracking numbers as evidence then fewer sellers will insist on more expensive options.
  8. US first class package international service (the thing that generally costs $12 for a 45) now includes tracking to the following countries. Just FYI. Canada Australia Belgium Brazil Croatia Denmark France Germany Great Britain and Northern Ireland Israel Netherlands New Zealand Spain Switzerland
  9. polyester is a plastic. there are 3 types of materials the sleeves are generally made from, polyvinyl ("vinyl"), polyethylene, and polypropylene. vinyl sleeves are to be avoided at all costs as they offgas onto the records and ruin them. mylar is a branded type of polyester that is recognized as the most archival and inert material that sleeves are generally made from.
  10. you know roller skating records are a whole genre, right? like vaughn mason bounce, rock, skate, roll. i never knew there were specific skating records in the '60s until this thread though.
  11. I don't hear any similarity at all. Why is it a cover?
  12. roller skating (e.g. at a rink with old school 4 wheel skates) is actually still really big in the south side of chicago, there is a big rink in Markham (south suburb). I've heard Gladys Knight comes to that rink when she's in Chicago to roller skate. There is a younger set of skaters that are the "JB Skaters" that do routines to James Brown, I'm sure there's videos of them on youtube.
  13. my vestax uses 6 D batteries
  14. as noted above this is ebay's global shipping program. but the party officially is ebay, you mail the record to their processing center and don't have to worry about it after that.
  15. i've heard the crosley revolution is really shitty in terms of how it's built. don't have personal experience with hit though.
  16. I didn't know it was a roller skating record but it was his big hit in chicago. real humdinger got some play too.
  17. the vestax has a pitch control and a tone control (and I have the first model that i bought a week within it coming out). that's why hiphop DJs can use it. why is it difficult to take off the record without scratching it? can't comment on the volume, but i wouldn't use any portable without headphones.
  18. crap i forgot to bid on that tommy payton. i didn't think it was amazing but it is chicago related and i've been looking for the stock copy for a while.
  19. didn't realize the USB thing. Another positive to the vestax is you can get pfanstiel stylii for $10 now, before a stylus was impossible to get and like $100
  20. I have the vestax handitrax, the first portable made in the new wave of portables, somewhere between 10-15 years ago. although it seems plasticky, i can confirm that it's built like a tank, as i still have it and it's had heavy abuse and even been underwater for two days once (rain flooding my car related). i actually use it at home too to listen to stacks of 45s with headphones. You can hear the plasticy tonearm but overall it sounds decent. they recently doubled in price though as they have become popular with hiphop DJs setting up in parks and running a pair through mixers.
  21. there hasn't been, legit or bootleg. i would offer to record all the ones i have but i'm really swamped right now. if you get most of them you can hit me up for one or two recordings.
  22. maybe, i don't know. it would be strange if he had more than one or two copies though since otherwise listing them on ebay and selling them is better for him than sitting on records forever.
  23. I said this above, but this record doesn't have the magnetics on it. It is John McKinney of the Magnetics though.
  24. Ending this late tonight (Chicago time). Current high bid is $1000. Thanks.
  25. Hi. Today I just did a music show. I played a lot of nice ‘60s and ‘70s uptempo cuts, male and female groups, as well as ‘60s and ‘70s and ‘80 sweet soul. You can check at the show at the following link: https://www.sittinginthepark.com/7-21-2013.mp3? Next week I will be having a special guest DJ, Corey Thomas, a record collector from Chattanooga, playing some of his favorite records. I’m looking forward to hearing his selections.
