  1. classic sweet soul cut. this was an awesome st. louis group, everything they did was great.
  2. which is the same PHILLY group as the dream merchants by the way...
  3. I have that on the list of things to do (it's still in beta and we're still adding features). But there's no way to prevent multiple uploads of the same videos from different sources, obviously, but soon the site will at least recognize if you submit the same video from the same source and warn you. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks everyone for checking it out. Thanks.
  4. this isn't adding any useful information to your thread, but who knows is a cover of gladys knight and the pips, better than the original in my opinion.
  5. My friend and I created a website that allows for the indexing of old soul and funk performance clips that are spread across different youtube, dailymotion, etc. accounts. The site is here: https://www.changings...%20Performances The idea is that there is a bunch of cool video content spread across the internet and I wanted to collect and accumulate it in one place and index it by artist, date, TV show, etc. So I created this forum on this site. Anyone can go to the page I linked above and view the already submitted content. If you click on the "filter" tab you can browse the existing content by artist, year, TV show, etc. Additionally, if people want to participate and submit new content or comment and rate existing content, they can sign up on the main page at www.changingscene.com, join the channel I linked above, and then they can comment on existing videos on submit new videos by clicking the "submit" link in the upper right hand corner. This isn't a video hosting site, you just submit links to existing youtube, dailymotion, or other video hosting site videos. You can also subscribe to the channel and get an email on each new clip on the "dashboard" page. The channel above is only intended for artist performances or real artist music videos, not recordings or fan-made videos. There is also a gospel performances channel at: https://www.changings...%20Show%20Clips There is also a sweet soul recordings channel at: https://www.changings...%20Sweet%20Soul Eventually I will let users create channels for anything they want but the site is in beta for now so they can't. But if someone wants me to create, for example, a northern soul dance clips channel, or anything else (doesn't really have to be music related even), and you think you can get people to participate, I can do that for you, pm me. Thanks.
  6. that's what I said, I think it sounds like sonny, like someone singing in the style of sonny, but I think it sounds off enough that I don't think it's little sonny. I could be wrong.
  7. i don't think it's the intruders, i think it's someone singing in the style of sonny but he's not hitting the notes in the right way, or at least the track is not at the right speed or something.
  8. he played in Jimmy Mayes band in New York, Jimmy Mayes had some incredible photos with Hendrix he showed me. Jimmy tells some good stories in my interview with him about later accidentally being on some hendrix album due to his earlier connection.
  9. use 91% isopropyl alcohol dabbed onto a lint-free car cloth (which at least in the US you can get at an auto supply store, it won't scratch your car finish and won't scratch your records either) and rub back and forth over the paint specks
  10. lead singer was named Jeff Smith, he wrote for other Columbus groups and later led Jeff Smith and Universe on Incentive
  11. it's the same but the flip is a different song. i have not heard the flip but have been told it's not good.
  12. I'm looking for a copy of "hey girl" on SMASH if anyone has a copy to sell me. Thanks.
  13. the connotations are the lyrics in the song, it's about "jimmy mack, when are you coming back". it's not inherent to the name "jimmy mack".
  14. I think it's just an answer to the vandellas record. Also, I think James Mack arranged it? Or maybe he was somehow affiliated with the group? I always meant to contact him and then he passed.
  15. hiphop people who don't know about soul music
  16. i feel like a total mark for having hyped this dude after that first single, both sides were good and i got a bunch of old school collectors excited and he turned out to be a douche. what a wack remake and useless video.

    Rarity

i agree with you but one mitigating factor is that a record that has been publicly dubbed as rare or valuable will be put up for sale more frequently than an invaluable record. so it might truly be very rare but the few copies out there will come up for sale because people will see they are selling for a lot and put them up for sale or the copies that are in people's collections will move around to make room for other things. i agree in general most records aren't as rare as people say they are and there are some records that are truly rare and don't come up for sale... even those records all of a sudden seem to come up for sale in batches though.
  18. I think it was just a martha and the vandellas hit so it became a recognizable name due to that. also, james mack was the name of an important arranger in chicago, he arranged a lot of records in the 60s and maybe most notably arranged tyrone davis' "in the mood". he passed away a year or two ago.
  19. ha, I knew there was a better photo, thanks sebastian
  20. also, I will try to find out the specific records for you, but the astors are backing vocals on some specific cuts, I think it even says in one of the liner notes on the newcomers / astors cd, they sing backup on some early carla thomas cuts and curtis johnson said that they even sing backup on some jerry lee lewis sun records i think
  21. also, the dynamic superiors' first record is supposedly the superiors on sue
  22. the epsilons on stax are not related to the hem group and the stax group have a whole bunch of other records under different names (and included mcfadden and whitehead).
  23. maybe not , sorry I'm not at home to check
